Another great accomplishment for BAT. So the price will probably crash again.

[–]MetroPCSFlipPhone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True the market gives no fucks 🤓

[–]jujumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope, then I can buy more.

[–]dankmeterGold | QC: CC 58 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Lol does anyone know why is that?

[–]acertenayBronze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does this happen with BAT? Its price keeps going down. I bought in at 25 cents.

[–]Epic_Deuce 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not invested yet but really rooting for BAT, great news!

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (3 children)

Important to note that this does not mean a cooperation with YouTube. The Brave browser will simply parse the YouTube video metadata and list the creators for possible donations, just like it does with newspaper sites.

[–]grey_tapesNew to Crypto 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Just starting using the Brave browser about two weeks ago, YouTube takes up a considerable amount of attention in my sessions so, take my BATs

[–]A1mSCSilver | QC: CC 19 16 points17 points  (6 children)

The biggest announcement will be when they make BAT useable through Chrome/FF/Safari Plugins.

The whole business model just makes sense, as the current state with an ad dominated incentive system is flawed and will hopefully be replaced by BAT. Great project!

[–]spiller37 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They will not really take off until they can integrate with other browsers. I am not switching browsers so I can pay for content. I might pay for more content if it's already in the existing browser. Or some kind of plugin for the site that can integrate the payments.

[–]CryptoJennieCrypto Expert | QC: CC 27, ETH 24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll also be getting paid in crypto (BAT) for using Brave in an upcoming release phase. The donating part is Brave Payments. The part where you receive BAT is "BAT Ads". Brendan Eich confirmed that it will be 70% revenue share to the user (you), which is insanely high.

Imagine when other apps (non web browsers), like chat applications, games, etc. announce that BAT has been integrated. The team has already been in talks with other apps and dev teams, which is wonderful. Lots of things ahead. A call from the inventor of Javascript and Firefox is hard not to pick up!

Huge news from an incredible team. Best long investment in crypto IMO. BAT support for Twitch coming soon, with Tor private tabs in the future for Brave browser. BULLISH!

That's great news but it's still a bit vague how it works, even when reading the article. Seems like a hassle right now but really curious how it evolves, especially when it's being enabled in Google Chrome as well. One to watch for sure!

[–]matdwyerCrypto Expert | CC: 23 QC 3 points4 points  (16 children)

You get tokens for using their browser (aka viewing their ads) then you give those tokens to your favourite content producers as a % of your consumption

(aka you watch datadash on youtube a lot, so you can say give 15% of my BAT tokens to him - micromonetization for the content producer, easy "hands free" support from the content consumer)

[–]spaceman817 3 points4 points  (11 children)

I don't think you actually receive tokens yet, though. It only supports paying content producers right now, I think?

[–]striderida1Ethereum 0 points1 point  (10 children)

Yes as of now you buy BAT with USD for example. Then you have BAT that you can use to tip the YouTube streamers. Here is the best part though...right now 1 BAT is $0.16 USD...if the token increases to say $0.75, you now are holding a lot more money in your account.

[–]locknicCrypto Nerd | CC: 17 QC 4 points5 points  (9 children)

But the streamers need to have already set up a BAT wallet or something? How do they claim their donated BAT?

[–]windfisher 1 point2 points  (8 children)

I might be wrong, but how it works is that like let's say for a publication like the New York Times, a lot of Brave browser users visit and signal they would like to donate to the NYT.

So Brave has an account for them accruing BAT, and then tells them, look, you're getting money over here come and claim it. And this 'pulls' then into liking BAT and then ideally also catering to it.

[–]locknicCrypto Nerd | CC: 17 QC 0 points1 point  (7 children)

But how could BAT automatically do this? Like anyone could come along to claim they are NYT and the money is theirs. Unless they have some kind of verification but that seems really labour intensive and I doubt they intend to employ people for that purpose?

[–]112-Cn 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Couldn't they check the DNS Zone ? Just add a TXT record to the nyt websites saying "send the money here starting now, and send what was accumulated too"

[–]locknicCrypto Nerd | CC: 17 QC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if you own the website, but say for youtubers, you wouldn't be able to do that.

[–]dragespirCrypto Connoisseur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their publisher verification system does this. That’s why the YouTube account verification for BAT is such a huge deal, because they can identify the channel you are watching and have the funds stored for the channel owner until he verifies ownership.

[–]windfisher -1 points0 points  (3 children)

I don't know, but domain verification is a pretty secure thing. If you verify as having root control of nytimes.com you're legit, and anyone on the marketing team can get that shown to be cleared.

[–]locknicCrypto Nerd | CC: 17 QC 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yeah but youtubers don't have root control of YouTube

[–]windfisher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no idea on that one

[–]miyayesRedditor for 11 months. 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually explained in the official announcement blog post: https://basicattentiontoken.org/brave-expands-basic-attention-token-platform-to-youtube/

  1. They just use OAuth to verify YouTube accounts.

  2. For publishers (websites), they verify the domain.

The system is working; they already have 1000+ verified publishers, including big names like DuckDuckGo, WikiHow, Archive.org, SmashingMagazine among others (some newspaper sites too, I think).

Wait so if I just switch to their browser they will pay me tokens? And I can just keep browsing dumb memes and posting stupid comments? Do they have a browser for iOS also that they will pay you BATs for using? Can BAT be traded like other tokens?

[–]porbably_shitting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea to all of those except the fact they haven't implemented the paid attention part yet. I would recommend downloading the mobile browser since it saves you money on data and battery since it blocks adds and trackers. Also has faster load times, check it out!

[–]dragespirCrypto Connoisseur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes yes yes yes and yes!! Basically why wouldn’t you want to get free crypto surfing the memes while blocking all trackers and malware and protecting your privacy on a super fast browser. There is no downside to surfing the web with Brave and owning sweet sweet BAT!!

iOS, Android, and Chrome extension to come in the future. Ad trials start in 2018.

whatisbat.com - Moon here we come!

[–]Tyrantt_47Bronze 9 points10 points  (3 children)

I'm having trouble understanding what bat is.

Users will be able to monetize their own attention without giving away any private data. It means that you’ll get free money for surfing the web!

Awesome! I get paid to watch advertisements

users will be contributing automatically via the Brave browser without signups or subscriptions.

Soooo.. I get paid to surf the web, but the bat that I earn is contributed automatically?

Huh? So am I getting paid or am I paying advertisers to view their advertisements?

Can I withdraw the bat that I earn?

[–]ExplodicleDrivechain fan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can I withdraw the bat that I earn?

Yes, it's a tradeable ERC20 token.

[–]dragespirCrypto Connoisseur 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You're getting paid, and the donation contribution to websites is a separate opt-in segment. Yes, you can withdraw the BAT you earn (but not right now. That's coming later in 2018, as well as getting paid for viewing ads.

[–]Tyrantt_47Bronze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This is dope. I've just started looking into using the Brave browser. It's going to be hard to pull me away from Chrome since I've used it for so long but we'll see!

[–]ARUKET 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it on my work computer. Still use Firefox at home. I don't really have many complaints, it is fast as hell. And if something doesn't want to load properly I can just open Firefox or Chrome for that moment so it never bothers me.

[–]NotMyKetchupCrypto God | ETH: 445 QC | CC: 24 QC 0 points1 point  (3 children)

So it's built on Ethereum - why can't they just use ETH instead? Why the BAT token?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Market caps, upsides, and let's face it basic attention token just sounds right for the part. Ethereum is well, you know. Same question could be asked about sooo many tokens.

If it makes you feel any better, get some BAT now, and as you 100x your investment in the next year or two, start buying ETH with it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. This is one of those where even if you don't "get it" or prefer to sit on the sidelines, it doesn't take a lot of investment to risk right now to yield some substantial gains as adoption of both crypto as a whole + Brave's advertising system increases. But people will be kicking themselves for not investing more, and so it goes.

[–]acertenayBronze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When will its price move ?
