Please try to find another organisation that is helping that isn’t the Red Cross to donate to. The Red Cross has a history of not putting anywhere near enough of the money they get toward what they say they will. If they’re the only ones you can donate to I guess you have to, but there should be other organisations that are better and more trustworthy you can donate to instead if you look them up.

To add: the average policeman or woman in Ireland is unarmed (specifically because of the public’s distrust in police forces after centuries of police brutality). The only members of our police force who carry guns are the Armed Support Unit, and they’re normally only called in for major threats like gangland crime or terrorist activity. Why were they called to a scene where a single man, who was clearly in a state of mental distress, was carrying a single knife????? And shouldn’t they be well-trained in de-escalating such a situation without force given how they are normally called in to deal with much larger threats??????????
