                    City Baths refurbishment

Melbourne City Baths will be undergoing a number of critical upgrades between 2 March and June 2020.

                    What’s happening

These works will ensure the historic City Baths remain relevant and responsive to population growth and customer’s needs, including access, inclusion and public health and wellbeing.

The works will be carried out in two stages, the City Baths will remain open throughout this time but a number of areas will be temporarily closed or relocated during construction.

More information on each stage, including area closures and relocations can be found below.

Timing of works. Full details below.

Stage one – March to May

Stage one includes the renovation of the reception area and spa upgrade works. During this time the following areas will be affected:

Main Entry (Swanston Street) – Closed. All members and guests will need to enter the City Baths from Franklin Street. City Baths will have a traffic controller and signage located Swanston and Franklin st to assist all customers

Reception – Relocated. The Reception area will be temporarily relocated to the area outside of the member change rooms. An additional Aquatic Education reception desk will be located outside of the program pool.

Spa – Closed. The spa will be closed while the upgrade works occur. The sauna and pools will remain open for the duration of the works

Male Guest Change Rooms – Entry Relocated. The current entry to the male guest (public) change rooms will not be accessible due to the reception area construction. Users will need to enter the change rooms through the hallway via the lap pool which goes past the sauna.

Group Fitness Studio. While the reception area is under construction the main pathway to several staff offices will be closed off. We will make every effort to take alternate pathways, but there may be occasions where staff need to access these offices through the group fitness studio while classes are taking place.

Stage two – May to June

Stage two includes resurfacing works on the outdoor training deck and the upgrade of the token operated lockers. During this time the following areas will be affected:

Training Deck (outdoor gym) – Closed. The training deck will be close while the resurfacing occurs.  Members and guests will not be able to use the training deck to access the gym, training studio or pool balcony.

Guest Change Rooms – 2 week closure. The guest change rooms will be closed for two weeks while the new lockers are installed. During this time the club change rooms will be available for guests to use.

Token Operated Lockers – Relocated. A number of token lockers will be temporarily relocated to the members lounge area for use while new lockers are installed in the guest change rooms and hallway. In order to accommodate the lockers, the lounge couches will likely be unavailable.
