New Mexico (Spanish: Nuevo México [ˈnweβo ˈmexiko]; Navajo: Yootó Hahoodzo [jo:tó haho:dzo]) is a state located in the southwestern region of the United States. It was admitted to the union as the 47th state on January 6, 1912. It is usually considered one of the Mountain States. New Mexico is the fifth-most extensive, the 36th-most populous, and the sixth-least densely populated of the 50 United States.
Inhabited by indigenous peoples of the Americas for many centuries before European exploration, New Mexico was subsequently part of the Imperial Spanish viceroyalty of New Spain. Later, it was part of Mexico before becoming a U.S. territory and eventually a U.S. state. Among U.S. states, New Mexico has the highest percentage of Hispanics, including descendants of Spanish colonists who have lived in the area for more than 400 years. It also has the second-highest percentage of Native Americans after Alaska, and the fourth-highest total number of Native Americans after California, Oklahoma, and Arizona. The nations in the state consist of mostly Navajo, Pueblo, and Apache peoples. As a result, the demographics and culture of the state are unique for their strong Hispanic and Native American influences, both of which are reflected in the state flag. The scarlet and gold colors of the New Mexico flag are taken from the royal standards of Spain, along with the ancient sun symbol of the Zia, a Pueblo-related tribe.
It has been two months since police found a body in the trunk of a burned out car near a northwest Albuquerque Walmart.
Looking back at the headlines of 2009 in New Mexico it becomes clear that the state may be getting attention outside of the Southwest for all the wrong reasons.

The Sinaloa drug cartel is the largest cartel in the world, and it’s estimated to rake in $3 billion a year. VICE News visited Mexico’s Golden Triangle, the stronghold of the Sinaloa cartel, just days before the extradition of drug lord El Chapo. A decade ago, Mexico declared war on the country’s drug cartels, deploying the military to dismantle them. That means destroying their drug crops. “They do the destruction by hand and also with fumigation with air force planes,” Cmdr. Cesar Augusto Bonilla told VICE News in the “Golden Triangle,” which is notorious for its marijuana and poppy production. “They collect everything that’s been destroyed, and continue to incinerate it.” These types of raids are supposed to cut into the cartel’s profits, just as the arrest of kingpins like El Chapo ...

Supporters of "right to work" laws claim to speak for New Mexico business, and decry the union security agreements they claim rob employers and workers of "choice" and "freedom". The strategy to pass these bad laws in New Mexico is awash with out-of-state dark money funded "studies" full of engineered data meant to support political motives. Despite all the hullaballoo, there is one thing the CEO backroom operatives neglected to do: talk to small businesses owners who actually built successful companies using union workers. We did. Here are TRUE New Mexican Business leaders speaking out against these unnecessary and destructive "right to work" laws being proposed right now at the NM State Capital. Visit RTWExposed.org for more information.
This 3-minute video describes the impact NM EPSCoR projects have had on entrepreneurs and the economy of rural New Mexico.
While the national economy took a beating last year, how has New Mexico fared?
According to MIT…Mid-size companies, that’s businesses with 10 to 99 employees… generate 35% of jobs nationally. And…these companies are better at creating middle class jobs in high-skilled areas. But as Simon Thompson reports…New Mexico economic initiatives are NOT focused on supporting the growth of these companies. New Mexico has been one of the states slowest to bounce back from the recession….. That could be because the state’s primary approach to economic growth has been using incentives and tax exemptions to lure big business. NMSU economist Doctor Chris Erickson says the state is moving in the wrong direction. “Economic development is an ocean liner and you are steering the ocean liner and right now Las Cruces and New Mexico is generally I think is steering towards the rocks...

http://www.newmexicopbs.org - The New Mexican alabado is a folk poem/canticle has been used by the Fraternidad Piadosa de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, more commonly known as the Penitentes, since the colonization of New Mexico. These Spanish hymns were once intimately connected to most communities spiritual activities. But, as modern New Mexico culture transforms, the alabados are being lost from the repertoire of New Mexican folklore. Beautifully sung by José Griego y Maestas and accompanied by his son Elias, these ancient ballads are stunningly illustrated with modern day images of northern New Mexico to create a profoundly interactive experience. These voices speak especially clearly from the ghost towns, mining camps, and little-known places that populate New Mexico's landscape. New Mexico's story is rich with history, from the Ancient Puebloan Indians, to Spanish explorers, pioneers traveling along the Santa Fe Trail, and prospectors in the 19th century. Cuchillo, established by ranchers and farmers in the 1850s, was named for a nearby creek and a local Apache chief, Cuchillo Negro (Black Knife). Midway between the mines at Chloride and Winston and the railroad at Engle, it flourished as a stag...

Please vote on RYM at - https://rateyourmusic.com/film/new_mexico_penitentiary/ Documentary about the 1980 New Mexico State Penitentiary Riots in which 33 inmates were killed. A truly chilling programme, when the inmates had control of the prison they dished out some truely brutal behaviour on fellow prisoners who were suspected of being snitches orsex offenders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Mexico_State_Penitentiary_riot
This is a long, very detailed film about the struggles of Public Land Hunts in New Mexico for Elk. By far one of the greatest hunts I have ever been on and I didn't even fill my tag. Good Friends, Beautiful Country, and just an overall wonderful experience. I highly encourage any hunter to get out there and give it 110%... You'll love every minute of this emotional roller coaster of a hunt!!!!
Ahh yes, my favorite ship in the game and the one with the least interesting history but most interesting design and execution! What's not to love about this ship? It has 12 of the best 14" Naval Rifles ever produced, it was heavily armored, it was maneuverable, it had great torpedo protection and was accurate as heck! Ohh yeah, it has that really awesome "Ranging Clock" on the superstructure that shows how much of a team player she really is! I just love this ship in game and have few bad things to say about her!
Fresh Tracks with Randy Newberg is in New Mexico with Leupold's Tim Lesser, VP of Product Development. This is the exact episode as aired on Sportsman Channel; Season 5, Episode 3. In this hunt, they are hunting a Wilderness Area burn where elk are aplenty. The challenge comes in the difficult terrain and the high winds that can persist at 10,000'. Randy takes the production risk to let Tim and cameraman, Tyler Johnerson, go on a stalk for a bull while Randy stays across the canyon to keep an eye for the elk sneaking out the bottom. The bull is bedded and Tyler rolls rocks to get this bull up and exposed for a shot. The end result is a great public land bull for Tim. It took two days to retrieve the bull, but the memories and meat are worth every bit of it. Thanks for watching. *...

New Mexico down on Central Avenue
Where the old highway goes running through
And all that I can do ,all that I can do
Is think of you
With someone new
I got a job waiting tables in the middle of the night
See the sunrise in my rear view mirror
Wake up to see the last of its light
But I don't mind, no I don't mind
Because that hot desert sun beating down on this side
of town
Well it ain't a pretty sight
A few old men and some young drunks they'll try to make
a pass
But I just have to look them straight in the eye
And I say please don't even ask
'Cause there's no one who, there's no one who
Can make my tired old life
Seem new and unused
I guess there's always gotta be someone out on the
highway
Laying down all that tar
And there's always gotta be someone serving up the
drinks
Down at the bar
But I don't want to be slaving my life away
If it's just to pay for all the things I never knew
quite how to say
Dirty old blackbird landed on my window sill
I didn't want him to leave so I sat there watching him
perfectly still
Until he finally flew, and when he finally flew
I asked him to cut a hole in the morning sky
