Philadelphia (/ˌfɪləˈdɛlfiə/) is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the fifth-most-populous in the United States, with an estimated population in 2014 of 1,560,297. In the Northeastern United States, at the confluence of the Delaware and Schuylkill River, Philadelphia is the economic and cultural anchor of the Delaware Valley, a metropolitan area home to 7.2 million people and the eighth-largest combined statistical area in the United States.
In 1682, William Penn founded the city to serve as capital of the Pennsylvania Colony. Philadelphia played an instrumental role in the American Revolution as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States, who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787. Philadelphia was one of the nation's capitals in the Revolutionary War, and served as temporary U.S. capital while Washington, D.C., was under construction. In the 19th century, Philadelphia became a major industrial center and railroad hub that grew from an influx of European immigrants. It became a prime destination for African-Americans in the Great Migration and surpassed two million occupants by 1950.

Pennsylvania i/ˌpɛnsᵻlˈveɪnjə/ (Pennsylvania German: Pennsilfaani), officially the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, is a state located in the northern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. The Appalachian Mountains run through its middle. The state borders Delaware to the southeast, Maryland to the south, West Virginia to the southwest, Ohio to the west, Lake Erie and the Canadian province of Ontario to the northwest, New York to the north, and New Jersey to the east.
Pennsylvania is the 33rd largest, the 6th most populous, and the 9th most densely populated of the 50 United States. The state's five most populous cities are Philadelphia (1,560,297), Pittsburgh (305,801), Allentown (118,577), Erie (100,671), and Reading (89,893). The state capital is Harrisburg. Pennsylvania has 51 miles (82 km) of coastline along Lake Erie and 57 miles (92 km) of shoreline along the Delaware Estuary.
The state is one of the 13 original founding states of the United States; it was originally founded in 1681 as a result of a royal land grant to William Penn, the son of the state's namesake. It was the second state to ratify the United States Constitution, on December 12, 1787. Independence Hall, where the United States Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution were drafted, is located in the state's largest city of Philadelphia. During the American Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg was fought in the south central region of the state.
A cheesesteak, also known as a Philadelphia cheesesteak, Philly cheesesteak, cheesesteak sandwich, cheese steak, or steak and cheese, is a sandwich made from thinly sliced pieces of steak and melted cheese in a long hoagie roll. A popular regional fast food, it has its roots in Philadelphia.
The cheesesteak was developed in the early 20th century "by combining frizzled beef, onions, and cheese in a small loaf of bread", according to a 1987 exhibition catalog published by the Library Company of Philadelphia and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
Philadelphians Pat and Harry Olivieri are often credited with inventing the sandwich by serving chopped steak on an Italian roll in the early 1930s. The exact story behind its creation is debated, but in some accounts, Pat and Harry Olivieri originally owned a hot dog stand, and on one occasion, decided to make a new sandwich using chopped beef and grilled onions. While Pat was eating the sandwich, a cab driver stopped by and was interested in it, so he requested one for himself. After eating it, the cab driver suggested that Olivieri quit making hot dogs and instead focus on the new sandwich. They began selling this variation of steak sandwiches at their hot dog stand near South Philadelphia's Italian Market. They became so popular that Pat opened up his own restaurant which still operates today as Pat's King of Steaks. The sandwich was originally prepared without cheese; Olivieri said provolone cheese was first added by Joe "Cocky Joe" Lorenza, a manager at the Ridge Avenue location."

I haven't visited historic Philadelphia, the birthplace of America, since I was a kid but this time I brought along my youngest niece. If you love American history, this is a must-do trip. One of the great things about visiting historic Philadelphia is that all of the main attractions are within easy walking distance of each other. We visited Independence Hall (my favorite because the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were signed here), the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin's Grave in Christ Church Burial Ground, the Philadelphia Mint (my niece's favorite because you can see the coins being minted), the President's House (America's first White House), the National Constitution Center (where original copies of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights are held), the Betsy Ross...

Additionally, I use a couple money saving techniques like couch surfing and kayak explore. This weekend I am in Philadelphia, and here is my itinerary: - Frontier Airlines (19,536 miles used, valued at $224.40) - Trenton/Couchsurfing 1) Reading Terminal Market ($8.10) 2) Independence Hall ($0) 3) Liberty Bell ($0) 4) Washington Square ($0) 5) The Curtis Center/Drea...
Philadelphia, located between New York and Washington D.C, is considered to be the birthplace of the United States. The Constitution was debated here in Philadelphia in what is now the Independence Hall. The nearby Liberty Bell Center is home to the famous two-thousand-pound bell which became a symbol of freedom. The National Constitution Center also tells the story of 1920s prohibition. Learn more about Al Capone and other famous former inmates at the Eastern State Penitentiary. The Philadelphia Museum of Art, one of the country's largest museums, is not to be missed. At Fairmount Park, discover outdoor art on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, as well as the Smith Memorial Arch dedicated to Civil War heroes. I was on a 2 wk solo trip, with private guide via JCTravel, to Ukraine in April 2017. On 2 of the days I took a 2 day overnight tour to Chernobyl. Two other people had signed up for the same 2 day overnight tour- you'll see them briefly in the video. We had a cute English speaking guide too. I brought my own personal radiation detectors with me: my "Inspector" and my "Polismart II". The Inspector reads Alpha, Beta, and Gamma and the Polismart just Gamma. The Polismart is always on and I had it in my carry-on camera bag on the flight over from Philadelphia to Kiev and its alarm went of while flying, think I was the only one who heard it, thank goodness. I actually got more radiation on the flight than I did in the 2 days at Chernobyl! There are some hotspots that we visit on the tour....

We met an American couple from Philadelphia (Courtney and Scott) and decided to travel with them for a few days. We shared beers in the evenings and a rental car during the day. The first half of the video is crazy for the following reasons: 1) Ashley is driving a 4x4 with a steering wheel on the right 2) We're driving on roads that are so steep that you need 4 wheel drive. 3) We have to honk going around corners because traffic goes both ways and there's only one lane. 4) In many places the road is either covered with a landslide, or collapsing because the dirt is washed out from under the pavement. The second half of the video is also crazy, but mostly for what happened off camera. We drove to a place with hiking trails, but when we got there it was closed. Everyone except for me wa...

Philadelphia, PA is the next city I have visited after New York. We rented Chevrolet Malibu from the category of “Full Size” cars at Enterprise, located in JFK Airport and in several hours drove to Chester, PA. Chester, PA is a town not far from Philadelphia where lives Matthew J. He invited us to come and we came. He gave us a tour around the downtown of Philadelphia. Too bad, the battery of the camera died and we had to get back to film the videos next day. But already without Matt and shiny weather. However, we have visited Philadelphia Museum of Art, Rocky Balboa Statue, City Hall Station, Hard Rock Cafe and Liberty Bell near Independence Hall. Stay tuned and keep supporting my channel at https://goo.gl/AaMRHt http://facebook.com/sgbaklykov http://youtube.com/user/realrussiablog
