North Philadelphia, nicknamed North Philly, is a section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It is immediately north of Center City. Though the full extent of the region is somewhat vague, "North Philadelphia" is regarded as everything north of either Vine Street or Spring Garden Street, between Northwest Philadelphia and Northeast Philadelphia. It is bordered to the north by Cheltenham Township along Cheltenham Avenue, Spring Garden Street to the south, 35th Street to the west, and Adams Avenue to the east. The Philadelphia Police Department patrols five districts located within North Philadelphia: the 22nd, 25th, 26th, 35th, and 39th districts. There are six zip codes for North Philadelphia: 19132, 19133, 19121, 19122, 19130 and 19123.
The city government views this sprawling chunk of Philadelphia more precisely as three smaller districts, drawn up by the Redevelopment Authority in 1964. These regions are (from north to south) Olney-Oak Lane, Upper North Philadelphia, and Lower North Philadelphia. Olney-Oak Lane is sometimes considered to be separate from North Philadelphia entirely because of their unique architecture, culture and differing patterns of development. Other sections of North Philadelphia include Brewerytown, Fairhill, Fairmount, Fishtown, Francisville, Franklinville, Glenwood, Hartranft, Northern Liberties, Poplar (roughly bound by Girard Avenue, Broad Street, Spring Garden Street, and 5th Street), Sharswood, Strawberry Mansion, Yorktown.
Philadelphia (/ˌfɪləˈdɛlfiə/) is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the fifth-most-populous in the United States, with an estimated population in 2014 of 1,560,297. In the Northeastern United States, at the confluence of the Delaware and Schuylkill River, Philadelphia is the economic and cultural anchor of the Delaware Valley, a metropolitan area home to 7.2 million people and the eighth-largest combined statistical area in the United States.
In 1682, William Penn founded the city to serve as capital of the Pennsylvania Colony. Philadelphia played an instrumental role in the American Revolution as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the United States, who signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787. Philadelphia was one of the nation's capitals in the Revolutionary War, and served as temporary U.S. capital while Washington, D.C., was under construction. In the 19th century, Philadelphia became a major industrial center and railroad hub that grew from an influx of European immigrants. It became a prime destination for African-Americans in the Great Migration and surpassed two million occupants by 1950.
North is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. North is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of south and is perpendicular to east and west.
The word north is related to the Old High German nord, both descending from the Proto-Indo-European unit ner-, meaning "down" (or "under"). (Presumably a natural primitive description of its concept is "to the left of the rising sun".)
The Latin word borealis comes from the Greek boreas "north wind, north", which, according to Ovid, was personified as the son of the river-god Strymon, the father of Calais and Zetes. Septentrionalis is from septentriones, "the seven plow oxen", a name of Ursa Maior. The Greek arktikos is named for the same constellation, and is the derivation of the English word "Arctic".
Other languages have sometimes more interesting derivations. For example, in Lezgian, kefer can mean both 'disbelief' and 'north', since to the north of the Muslim Lezgian homeland there are areas formerly inhabited by non-Muslim Caucasian and Turkic peoples. In many languages of Mesoamerica, "north" also means "up". In Hungarian the word for north is észak, which is derived from éjszaka ("night"), since above the Tropic of Cancer, the Sun never shines from the north.
A drive-through, or drive-thru, is a type of service provided by a business that allows customers to purchase products without leaving their cars. The format was pioneered in the United States in the 1930s by Jordan Martin, but has since spread to other countries. The first recorded use of a bank using a drive-up window teller was the Grand National Bank of St. Louis, Missouri in 1930. The drive-up teller allowed only deposits at that time.
Orders are generally placed using a microphone and picked up in person at the window. A drive-through is different from a drive-in in several ways - the cars create a line and move in one direction in drive-throughs, and do not park, whereas drive-ins allow cars to park next to each other, the food is generally brought to the window by a server, called a carhop, and the customer can remain in the parked car to eat.
Drive-throughs have generally replaced drive-ins in popular culture, and are now found in the vast majority of modern American fast-food chains. Sometimes, a store with a drive-through is referred to as a "drive-through," or the term is attached to the service, such as, "drive-through restaurant," or "drive-through bank."

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say three minors pointed what appears to be a gun at two people in North Philadelphia earlier this week. The youngest suspect, 10-years-old, turned himself in on Wednesday night. Police say the gun was either a toy gun or a BB gun. Authorities continue to search for two additional minors. The incident occurred in the Tioga section of the city on Monday around 6:45 p.m. According to police, a 27-year-old man was approached by a group of males on the 3300 block of North 16th Street. Police say one of the males then reached into his backpack, pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim saying "hey buddy." The victim ran into a house and called 911 while the suspect fled south toward Allegheny Avenue. About 20 minutes later, police say a minor was seen...

http://bookinghunter.com Philadelphia is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the second largest city on the East Coast of the United States, and the fifth-most-populous city in the United States.[1] It is located in the Northeastern United States along the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers, and it is the only consolidated city-county in Pennsylvania. The most important places to visit in Philadelphia are: Franklin Court (was raised in 1812, the ghost of it still stands today. Here is the Christ Church Burial Ground, another famous landmark, where Ben Franklin and four other signers of the Declaration of Independence were laid to rest), Congress Hall (was home of the first Congress. On top of that, George Washington and John Adams were inaugurated here, and the Bill of Righ...

Take a tour of some of the most historic buildings of America. Historic Philadelphia is where the Founding Fathers laid the groundwork for the creation of America. Not only is the city packed with sites that commemorate what they did, but you can visit the places where they actually lived and worked. Let's start with Declaration House on Seventh and Market Street. Thomas Jefferson lived here during the time he wrote the Declaration of Independence. He wrote the document in three weeks. The Liberty Bell, right here on Sixth Street, is perhaps Philadelphia's most famous attraction. On July 8th, 1776, it was rung to commemorate the hearing of the Declaration of Independence. The Bell weighs 2,000 pounds, which may not be apparent by looking at it. It was cracked in 1846, and has not be...

I haven't visited historic Philadelphia, the birthplace of America, since I was a kid but this time I brought along my youngest niece. If you love American history, this is a must-do trip. One of the great things about visiting historic Philadelphia is that all of the main attractions are within easy walking distance of each other. We visited Independence Hall (my favorite because the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were signed here), the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin's Grave in Christ Church Burial Ground, the Philadelphia Mint (my niece's favorite because you can see the coins being minted), the President's House (America's first White House), the National Constitution Center (where original copies of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights are held), the Betsy Ross...
