Six years ago on September 17th, the Occupy moment began. Occupy was perhaps a high water mark for the North American anarchist space, although the anarchist idea and practice of occupation on different levels goes back much further. Occupy, assemblies, gatherings, meetings, etc provide anarchists with the face-to-face (f2f) social experiences and opportunity to learn a(n anarchist) culture and survive.

A Report on the Black Rose/Rosa Negra 4th National Convention

On a Saturday afternoon in Rochester, NY, fifty members of the Black Rose Anarchist Federation gathered outside The Flying Squirrel Community Space to take a group photo. Members from 14 locals, as well as many at-large members, travelled from across the country to participate in their organization’s fourth convention. As the group walked back inside, one member was quoted saying that, “the convention so far was one of the best conversations we’ve had in the federation on strategy, the current moment and our next steps.”

This October, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) will hold their annual conference in Philadelphia. This is a call for an ambitious mobilization to directly disrupt the conference, to publicly spread an explicitly anti-police position, and to attempt to open up space that is hostile to state control. We hope to do so using both coordinated and decentralized, autonomous actions in the area immediately surrounding the conference in Center City and throughout Philly.
On September 16, 2017 thousands of antifascists in Athens, Greece marched towards the headquarters of the “Golden Dawn” fascist party, four years after the murder of antifascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas by approximately 40 neonazi members of Golden Dawn, on September 18, 2013 in the Keratsini area of Athens.

Repression against the team at Meydan anarchist magazine in Turkey took another twist on Thursday after three members of the distribution team were jailed for six months each.
The three volunteers, Nergis Şen, Rıfat Güven and Zeynel Çuhadar were taken into custody (picture above) after the publication of Meydan Gazette issue 33, which called for an anarchist celebration of May 1st, on the grounds of a State prohibition on the event by President Erdogan’s increasingly hardline regime.

“Become ungovernable” is a slogan anarchists like to use these days. It sounds cool and fits the anarchist aesthetic of revolt and spectacular conflict. It doesn’t immediately mean much, but that’s the beauty of it, the meaning shifts with each person and the specificities of their lives. With no revolution and lots of environmental catastrophe, state violence, and “active shooter situations” on the horizon, rather than despairing at our no-future future, it instead contains a path forward: to refuse submission to law, duty, and passivity in daily life.
