New Delhi (i/ˌnjuː ˈdɛli/) is a municipality and district in Delhi which serves as the capital and seat of government of India. In addition, it also serves as the seat of Government of Delhi.
The foundation stone of the city was laid by George V, Emperor of India during the Delhi Durbar of 1911. It was designed by British architects, Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker. The new capital was inaugurated on 13 February 1931, by India's Viceroy Lord Irwin.
Although colloquially Delhi and New Delhi as names are used interchangeably to refer to the jurisdiction of NCT of Delhi, these are two distinct entities, and the latter is a small part of the former.
New Delhi has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under PM Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission.
Calcutta (now Kolkata) was the capital of India during the British Raj until December 1911. However, Delhi had served as the political and financial centre of several empires of ancient India and the Delhi Sultanate, most notably of the Mughal Empire from 1649 to 1857. During the early 1900s, a proposal was made to the British administration to shift the capital of the British Indian Empire (as it was officially called) from Calcutta to Delhi. Unlike Calcutta, which was located on the eastern coast of India, Delhi was at the center of northern India and the Government of British India felt that it would be logistically easier to administer India from the latter rather than the former.
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.
Delhi (/ˈdɛli/, Hindustani pronunciation: [d̪ɪlliː] Dilli), officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi, is the capital territory of India. Delhi is historically and culturally connected to both the Upper Doab of the Yamuna-Ganges river system and the Punjab region. It is bordered by Haryana on three sides and by Uttar Pradesh to the east. It is the largest city in India in terms of geographical area - about 1,484 square kilometres (573 sq mi). It has a population of about 16.3 million, making it the second most populous city and second most populous urban agglomeration in India and 3rd largest urban area in the world. Such is the nature of urban expansion in Delhi that its growth has expanded beyond the NCT to incorporate towns in neighbouring states and at its largest extent can count a population of about 25 million residents as of 2014.
Delhi has been continuously inhabited since the 6th century BC. Through most of its history, Delhi has served as a capital of various kingdoms and empires. It has been captured, ransacked and rebuilt several times, particularly during the medieval period, and modern Delhi is a cluster of a number of cities spread across the metropolitan region.

In February 2015 I was working in India and briefly got the chance to visit New Delhi. After seeing what a vibrant place it was I decided to change my plans and give my self four days in Delhi to try and make a short timelapse film. On first impression Delhi seems like an incredibly busy and happening city. Its home to 25 million people and this is very apprent when you arrive. Theres almost a never ending flow of people, rickshaws and even cows that rush through the citys streets. I was fortuante to be in Delhi for Holy festival, which although not very camera friendly, was a real demonstration of the nations beautiful culture. And despite the sound of horns, Delhi is a beautiful place. Its mixture of old colonial arcitecture, historic forts, narrow winding streets and beautiful temp...

On 16th December 2012, a girl was brutally gang-raped in a moving bus, and her friend was remorselessly beaten up in New Delhi, India. The details involved are beyond mention here. That day, a change began to happen in New Delhi. A change fueled by the refusal to bear any more injustice. And as the tremors of the December 16 tragedy continue to shock the country, we have come to decide that we have simply had enough. Enough to last a lifetime, generation after generation. Enough that we can no longer take any more. -- My prayers go out to the victims of the incident, both of whom are fortunately alive, though critically injured. -- Peace is a powerful weapon. Please don't turn a protest into a riot. -- All footage is my own, please ask for permission before using. Recorded on 22nd D...

Is there a more ideal locale for skateboarding than to the teeming Kumbh Mela festival in North India which hosts what was estimated to be the world's largest religious gathering ever recorded? The answer is yes, probably any back alley or random village street would be more productive and doable than at this joyous, ancient gathering. At the Kumbh Mela, Gurus and millions of other assorted Hindu devotees make their sanctified bathing pilgrimage to wash away their accrued sins at the confluence of the Ganges, and Yamuna Rivers, that takes place every dozen years in the city of Allahabad. In early February 2013, Sean Malto, Sebo Walker, Mark Suicu and Nestor Judkins traveled to legendary India. Their plan was to traverse the breadth of the Subcontinent's core with their ultimate goal to r...
\\ Find out more about the brand new "UMDA EP" release at https://alban-endlos.bandcamp.com // To measure up to the electro-acoustic sound and the diversity of Alban Endlos' first album "Goldene Welt / Golden World" we let our camera travel into another world. During a six week journey from the highest north into the deepest south of India over ten hours of video-footage were generated and combined through an ambitious editing-concept allowing only to use match-cuts. To adapt the analogue nature of the music and the images, the final effects and colortunings were done with a magnet on an old VHS Tape and were composited in an extensive post-production to achieve the effect of a VHS Image in Full-HD Resolution. _______________________________________________________________________ Mus...
I live in the beautiful city of New Delhi, India. I was born in the city and have lived there until I came to the USA for high school at the age of 15. The city has two distinct parts. One clean and well developed (with high rises, parks and malls), the other dirty, poor and under-developed. The city is known more for the later than the former. I just wanted to show how there can be beauty under any amount of dirt.

New Delhi at three A.M.
Just arrived by K.L.M.
Left the airport in the heat
In the bus strange people meet
Driving through the starless night
Passing very unusual sights
Left the bus at five to five
Caught a taxi started to drive
He thought I was a millionaire
And accordingly put up the fare
Dawn was breaking in the east
Causing this hot night to cease
Mosquitos buzzing in my ears
Grating sound of clashing gears
Burning rubber filled the air
Taxi driver began to swear
The heat was burning my head was turning
It was then the car broke down
Just on the outskirts of town
A camel from the Dhrangadhra
Silently passed by our car
A vulture circled high above in the air
I had to shade my eyes to cover the glare
Sweating in the plastic seats
Hard to breathe in the increasing heat
Lying back my mind started to
Drift into an uneasy sleep
I dreamt I was in New Delhi
