Saturday, October 6 2012 Soldiers fired tear gas on olive harvesters from Tarqumiya – by Alon Aviram It’s that time of the year again and the olive trees are ripe and ready for harvest. I found myself last Saturday picking olives alongside Palestinian families and Israeli activists from Ta’ayush in the village of Tarqumiya, northwest of Hebron. As the morning light crept over us, the only sounds to be heard were those of intermittent conversations, of hands sifting through coarse olive branches as they plucked the fruit, and then of the olives dropping like scattered rain drops on the nylon sheets below. The annual olive harvest is a […]
Saturday, October 30 2010 Olives Harvested and Activists Detained Over the last year the IDF has worked to thwarted the humanitarian activities of Ta’ayush activists in the South Hebron Hills by means of “Closed Military Zone” orders. Tens of times this year the army has expelled activists and Palestinian farmers from the Palestinians’ lands, in violation of the regulations under which these orders are issued. Instead of protecting them from settler harassment and violence, the army expels the farmers from their fields and cisterns. On Saturday 30 October 2010, Hebron Hills Brigade Commander, Corporal Guy Hazot outdid all measures […]

Saturday, October 25 2008 Olive harvesting close to the Otniel outpost The olive harvest took place on Saturday 25/10/2008 close to the settlement of Otniel. The harvest was organised by Combatants for Peace together with Ta’ayush, in the framework of the Olive Harvest Coalition. That same week settlers from Otniel had attacked Palestinian farmers who were harvesting their lands close to the settlement. The soldiers who were there to protect the farmers were also attacked and one of them was wounded. At this the olive harvest was halted by the army and the area declared a closed military zone. During the […]
Monday, October 20 2008 Family Olive Harvest in Battir A number of Israeli families, including parents and children, joined with the residents of Beitar in harvesting olives from the villagers’ groves located in Nahal Refaim. The Israeli and Palestinian families’ shared labor, the conversations, the joint picnic, and the experience of climbing the olive trees were fun for all of the event’s participants.
