16 mm film is a popular, economical gauge of film. 16 mm is the width of the film. Other common film gauges include 8 mm and 35 mm. It is generally used for non-theatrical (e.g., industrial, educational) film making or for low budget motion pictures. It also existed as a popular amateur or home movie making format for several decades, alongside 8 mm film and, later, Super 8 mm film. In 1923, Eastman Kodak released the first 16 mm "outfit" consisting of a camera, projector, tripod, screen and splicer for $335. RCA-Victor introduced a 16 mm sound movie projector in 1932 and developed an optical sound-on-film 16 mm camera, released in 1935.
Eastman Kodak introduced 16 mm film in 1923 as a less expensive amateur alternative to 35 mm film. During the 1920s, the format was often referred to as sub-standard by the professional industry.
Kodak hired Willard Beech Cook from his 28 mm Pathescope of America company to create the new 16 mm Kodascope Library. In addition to making home movies, people could buy or rent films from the library, a key selling aspect of the format.
A film festival is an organized, extended presentation of films in one or more cinemas or screening venues, usually in a single city or region. Increasingly, film festivals show some films outdoors. Films may be of recent date and, depending upon the festival's focus, can include international and domestic releases. Some festivals focus on a specific film-maker or genre (e.g., film noir) or subject matter (e.g., horror film festivals). A number of film festivals specialise in short films of a defined maximum length. Film festivals are typically annual events. Some film historians do not consider Film Festivals as official releases of film, like Jerry Beck. The best known film festivals are the Venice Film Festival, the Cannes Film Festival, the Toronto Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, and the Berlin International Film Festival, the latter being the largest film festival worldwide, based on attendance. The Venice Film Festival is the oldest major festival. The Melbourne International Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the oldest in the world. A 2013 study found 3,000 active films festivals worldwide—active defined as having held an event in the previous 24 months.
A film, also called a movie, motion picture or photoplay, is a series of still images which, when shown on a screen, creates the illusion of moving images due to the phi phenomenon. This optical illusion causes the audience to perceive continuous motion between separate objects viewed rapidly in succession. A film is created by photographing actual scenes with a motion picture camera; by photographing drawings or miniature models using traditional animation techniques; by means of CGI and computer animation; or by a combination of some or all of these techniques and other visual effects. The word "cinema", short for cinematography, is often used to refer to the industry of films and filmmaking or to the art of filmmaking itself. The contemporary definition of cinema is the art of simulating experiences to communicate ideas, stories, perceptions, feelings, beauty or atmosphere by the means of recorded or programmed moving images along with other sensory stimulations.
The process of filmmaking is both an art and an industry.

Learn how to shoot on the 16mm film format in this in-depth beginners guide. Topics covered in this video are... 1) Difference between 16mm and Super 16mm 2) Learning about the Russian K-3 16mm camera 3) Loading 16mm film 4) Taking a proper light reading with a traditional light meter, HDSLR, and an iPhone. Some additional tips and notes that I didn't mention in this video... - You don't have to load film in the dark. You will expose a couple feet of film but the remaining 48 feet will be fine. Just make sure you load in a shaded area and not in direct sunlight. - If you don't have an extra roll of 16mm film to practice loading your camera with, you can cut a few feet off of a fresh roll of 16mm film and just practice with that. - http://K3camera.com is a great website to go to an...

This movie was shot in 16 mm film in the southwestern Brazilian rainforest, the Mata Atlântica, with a custom modified camera. Following strategies of structural film making, 16mm plays with the footage roll used to film it as constitutive base of its form and content. A 16 mm film standard roll of 200 feet (60.96 meters) gives an approximate duration of 5' 33" (333"). That means 1 meter of film is consumed every 5.46 seconds or 18.3 cm. every second. To make this work I modified a 16mm film camera with the help of the engineer Stefan Knauer: we built a special traveling car, replaced the camera engine and built a transmission system that allows the camera to move along a tensioned steel cable as a traveling rail while shooting the film. The special thing of this modification is that a si...

*This film is original raw footage and not intended for commercial or profit* My great-grandfather had one of the early consumer 16mm camera's... the Cine Kodak from the 1930's. The film itself, though scratched is in amazing condition. Notice the incredible color of the Kodachrome. Absolutely pristine and sharp. This film was transferred back in 2009 by Spectra Film and Video. The more recent footage of my grandparents was shot on Super 8mm on a Canon 814 Velvia 50D in 2006. This footage was all shot in and around Portland in the 1930's and 40's. My grandparents grew up off MLK Blvd.

I looked at faith
I almost walked away
But I looked again
I found the nerve to close my eyes and say the words
To ask you in
And I heard no heavenly choir
No angels in whit attire
i got no amazing super hum omnipresent pow but....
CHORUS
I know You now
I know You now
I know You're in my heart
I know You now
Beyond the shadow of a doubt
I know You now
I look at peace, that once was out of reach
And now it's here
i read Your word that some believe is so absurd
But I hold dear, yea
'Cause You loved me with your dying breath
You saved me when You conquered death
