Benjamin "Ben" Gibbard (born August 11, 1976) is an American singer, songwriter and guitarist. He is best known as the lead vocalist and guitarist of the indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie, with whom he has recorded eight studio albums, and as one half of the electronica duo the Postal Service. Gibbard released his debut solo album, Former Lives, in 2012, and a collaborative studio album, One Fast Move or I'm Gone (2009), with Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt's Jay Farrar.
While performing guitar in the band Pinwheel, Gibbard recorded a demo cassette under the moniker Death Cab for Cutie, entitled You Can Play These Songs with Chords (1997). After receiving a positive response to the material, Gibbard expanded the project into a full band, with the addition of Chris Walla (guitar), Nick Harmer (bass) and Nathan Good (drums). The following year, the band released its debut album, Something About Airplanes (1998), on Barsuk Records, and released its follow-up, We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes, in 2000.
Death Cab for Cutie is an American alternative rock band, formed in Bellingham, Washington in 1997. The band comprises Ben Gibbard (vocals, guitar, piano), Nick Harmer (bass) and Jason McGerr (drums). In 2014, founding guitarist and producer Chris Walla announced that he would be departing from the band after recording their eighth studio album, Kintsugi.
The band was originally a solo project by Ben Gibbard, when he released the demo album, You Can Play These Songs with Chords, to positive reception. This led to a record deal with Barsuk Records. Gibbard decided to expand the project into a complete band, releasing their debut album Something About Airplanes in 1998, and their second album, We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes, in 2000; both records were positively received in the indie community. Their third album, 2001's The Photo Album, gave the band their first charting single, and the release of the group's fourth album Transatlanticism, in 2003, gained the band mainstream critical and commercial success. After signing with Atlantic Records, Death Cab For Cutie released their fifth album and major-label debut Plans in 2005, which received platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America. The band released their sixth album Narrow Stairs in 2008, which served as a stylistic departure for the group. Their seventh album, 2011's Codes and Keys, featured the band's first number one single, "You Are a Tourist". Their eighth studio album Kintsugi, the last to feature Walla, was released on March 31, 2015.
Former Lives is the debut album by Death Cab for Cutie's lead singer Ben Gibbard. It was released in October 2012 under Barsuk Records.
Many of the album's tracks feature Gibbard playing all instruments by himself. Aaron Espinoza is credited as producer for all tracks except 5, 10, 11, and 12. Other guest musicians include Jon Wurster, Mark Spencer, Aimee Mann, and Zooey Deschanel.
The Postal Service was an American indie band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 2001. The band consisted of vocalist Ben Gibbard (of Death Cab for Cutie), producer Jimmy Tamborello (of Dntel and Headset), with Jenny Lewis (of Rilo Kiley) on background vocals.
The band released their debut album, Give Up, in 2003 on Sub Pop Records, to mostly positive reviews. The album reached number 114 on the US Billboard 200 album chart, and received platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America.
The Postal Service remained largely inactive from 2005 until 2013, when they reunited for a tour, and released a re-issue of Give Up to celebrate its tenth anniversary. Laura Burhenn joined the lineup throughout the tour to provide additional vocals and instruments, with Jen Wood filling in for a few shows.
On August 3, 2013, Gibbard announced that the band would disband permanently after the last show of their reunion tour.
The group formed after Ben Gibbard contributed vocals for a song by Jimmy Tamborello called "(This Is) The Dream of Evan and Chan", from the Dntel album Life Is Full of Possibilities. The song sparked an EP of remixes by other artists, such as Lali Puna, The Flaming Lips, Safety Scissors, Barbara Morgenstern and Superpitcher, and was so well-received that the two artists decided to further collaborate. The third member of the band, Jenny Lewis, lived in the same apartment complex as Tamborello, and would record temporary vocals for several tracks before eventually becoming a full-fledged member of the band, sharing vocals and instrumentation in their live shows.
The mail or post is a system for physically transporting documents and other small packages, as well as a term for the postcards, letters, and parcels themselves. A postal service can be private or public, though many governments place restrictions on private systems. Since the mid-19th century national postal systems have generally been established as government monopolies with a fee on the article prepaid. Proof of payment is often in the form of adhesive postage stamps, but postage meters are also used for bulk mailing. Modern private postal systems are typically distinguished from national postal agencies by the names "courier" or "delivery service".
Postal authorities often have functions other than transporting letters. In some countries, a postal, telegraph and telephone (PTT) service oversees the postal system, as well as hasa authority over telephone and telegraph systems. Some countries' postal systems allow for savings accounts and handle applications for passports. The Universal Postal Union (UPU), established in 1874, includes 192 member countries and sets the rules for international mail exchanges.

JBTV welcomed Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard for an acoustic set following the release of the band's eighth album Kintsugi, named after a Japanese pottery technique that used gold plaster to patch cracks. The album names seems to be a metaphor for Kintsugi being the first album not produced by multi-instrumentist Chris Walla, who left in 2014. Death Cab for Cutie is now composed of Gibbard, bassist Nick Harmer, and drummer Jason McGerr. Lyrics: Way way down a hole, there's no feeling, Cause when you're so far below the floor, everything's a ceiling. We dug it down as deep as we could just like we planned it, But when you climbed out you pulled the ladder and it left me stranded So what am I supposed to do? Article and photos: http://bit.ly/DeathCabRR On April 29th, 2015, Ben Gibbard and Nick Harmer of Death Cab for Cutie met with PG in Nashville’s historic Ryman to talk short-scale Fenders and Acme Silvertones. Ben Gibbard tours with four 1970s Fender Mustangs with solid maple necks (He likes their comfy 24" scale.) The Mustangs have had their pickup switches and tone controls removed, and a single volume knob controls both pickups. Tech Jesse Quitslund also replaced the tremolo springs with bolts, locking down the floating tailpiece. When Gibbard wants a softer, gentler tone, he goes with one of two 2008 Gibson J-45s with B-Band pickup systems. Lead singer and frontman of Death Cab For Cutie Ben Gibbard has stated: "...unlike The Photo Album, I feel like this record is definitely more like a proper album. We’ve tried to construct it with transitions of songs going in and out of each other, and I think it's a little bit more expansive than the last record." Transatlanticism is a wonderful example of an album with great transitions from one song to the next, but have you ever noticed how the last song on the album leads into the first? This makes it possible for the album to be played in one seamless, endless loop. This here isn't endless, but it's played four times over, which comes out to right about three hours. So if you really enjoy this one and are perhaps working on a long project, then here you go! You won't ever even no...
