St Mary’s take on Wanderers in NTFL men’s Premier League grand final
MARCH 16: FOR the third straight year, St Mary’s and Wanderers are to square off in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) men’s Premier League grand final. The big game will be at TIO Stadium, Darwin, on Saturday night. Last year the Muk Muks were favourites, but St Mary’s ‘Green Machine’ stole a thriller by two points. In 2015, St Mary’s – one of the great post-World War II clubs on the Australian football landscape – were upstaged by a Wanderers team that boasted Eddie Sansbury, Marlon Motlop and Liam Patrick. St Mary’s coach Rick Nolan is wary of his opponents this time even though St Mary’s won the second semifinal and the minor premiership. Under-estimating Wanderers is fraught with peril, he said. On Sunday, the Tiwi Islands football grand final will be played.
