The Snatch star, who's slated to appear in Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi, will reprise his role as Alejandro in the sequel to the 2015 crime drama Sicario alongside Josh Brolin, though Emily Blunt, who was one of the leading stars in the original, will not return to the franchise

The sequel to the Oscar-nominated film, which dealt with the drug crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, will be called Soldado.
Oscar-nominated screenwriter Taylor Sheridan, who penned scripts to both the original and the sequel, told Collider that while the follow-up will feature the same characters, but from a different perspective in terms of storyline.
'I would say if Sicario is a film about the militarization of police and that blending over, this is removing the policing aspect from it,' Sheridan said.

Director Stefano Sollima said that a mere glance at international headlines these days all but confirms that the world the story is set in remains relevant.
'Unfortunately there is still much to mine in this world and explore creatively,' he said. 'People are gonna think I have a crystal ball - I don’t - but the current political activities are oddly timely to what Soldado confronts.'
