Midsumma Festival: The Helendale Nude Footy Calendar hits the stage in Maribyrnong
FOOTY, financial trouble and a nude calendar combine for a fun-filled play premiering as part of the 30th annual Midsumma Festival.
Maribyrnong will host five events for the annual festival, which is Melbourne’s premier queer arts and cultural festival for and by LGBTIQA communities.
Playwright Jake Stewart wrote The Helendale Nude Footy Calendar about a club on the verge of bankruptcy until a player comes up with something shocking.
For the good of the town, the happiness of their mates, and their love of the sport, the footy shorts are coming off.
Featuring three parallel stories about being a gay man in a country town, there’s a lot to learn about mateship, men, locker rooms and love.
Performances will start from January 24 at the Bluestone Church Arts Space in Footscray.
