Station Street Mall in Frankston is being transformed to including cafes and outdoor dining
THE transformation of Station Street Mall into a bustling “eat street” with restaurants, cafes and outdoor dining has begun.
Frankston Council and the State Government are offering three stakeholders grants of up to $50,000 to help transform the mall into a hospitality thoroughfare.
One vacant property is now up for grabs and two more will be available in 12 to 18 months.

Frankston Council CEO Dennis Hovenden said it was a primary spot.
“Its width and the size of the tenancies lends itself to being a destination street with ample room for outdoor dining,” he said.
“It has all the attributes to become one of Melbourne’s great eat streets, similar to the success of Melbourne’s laneways and places like Eaton Mall in Oakleigh.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to attract some of Melbourne’s brightest and best hospitality operators to Frankston.”

Frankston Council said there had been keen interest from restaurateurs.
Frankston state Labor MP Paul Edbrooke said the Eat Street Grants were part of a Place Activation Program.
“As Chair of the Frankston Rejuvenation Board I am proud to include this grant fund as part of the Victorian Government’s $63 million rejuvenation of Frankston’s city centre,” Mr Edbrooke said.
“I want to see unique hospitality businesses take up this fantastic opportunity to become a part of the overall transformation of this great city into a key destination to visit.”

To help launch “eat street” a temporary pop-up park, which includes Cargo Nutrition Bar, has been set up in the mall and will be open from tomorrow.
Frankston Tourism Inc Chair Tim Gledhill applauded the culinary concept.
“The transformation of Station Street Mall through the offer of substantial establishment grants is another strong example of Frankston realising its potential with business, visitors and residents all set to benefit from our very own ‘eat street’,” Mr Gledhill said.
Hospitality businesses must partner with property owners in Station Street Mall to apply for the grants.
Funds can be spent on the fitout of properties, including commercial kitchen installation.
