The Accused is a 1988 American drama film written by Tom Topor and directed by Jonathan Kaplan. It starred Jodie Foster and Kelly McGillis. The film is set in Washington state, and was filmed in Vancouver, Canada.
The film was loosely based on the 1983 gang rape of Cheryl Araujo in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and the resulting trial, which received national coverage. This film was one of the first Hollywood films to portray rape graphically.
The film was well-received. Jodie Foster portrayed Sarah Tobias, the victim, earning the Academy Award for Best Actress, the film's sole nomination. This was the first time that the lead actress won the Best Actress Academy Award without the film being nominated in any other category since 1957, when Joanne Woodward won Best Actress for her performance in The Three Faces of Eve.
One night at a bar, working-class woman Sarah Tobias (Foster) is gang raped by several drunk bar patrons, while onlookers cheer them on. Assistant district attorney, Kathryn Murphy (McGillis), who is assigned to the rape case, wants to drop it. After a heated argument, her superior suggests she arrange a plea bargain with the rape defendants that requires some jail time. They make a plea bargain to charges of reckless endangerment and are sentenced to prison. Sarah is enraged by the deal, as she did not get to testify in court against her attackers.

What are the limits of justice? Of social responsibility? The Accused takes a powerful and thought-provoking look at human nature and individual moral conscience, and a judicial process that treats the victim like a criminal. Jodie Foster gives an Oscar®-winning performance as the hard-living fiercely independent Sarah Tobias, who is gang-raped in the back of a neighborhood bar. But that is only the beginning of her ordeal. Now Sarah finds herself battling the legal system, not once but twice, as she and her attorney (Kelly McGillis) go after both her attackers and the onlookers whose cheering fueled and encouraged the assault.

A real estate agent in South Carolina is accused of kidnapping a woman who was found “chained like a dog” inside a metal storage container on his property — and may be responsible for the deaths of at least seven people, authorities said. Over the past week, Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputies have made shocking discoveries on a sprawling, wooded property owned by Todd Christopher Kohlhepp, 45, in rural Woodruff, S.C. On Thursday, police found Kala Brown, 30, chained inside a metal storage container on Kohlhepp’s land. Prince Andrew has been accused of political meddling after complaining that Brexit and the potential election of Donald Trump as US president risked “tearing everything apart”. The remarks were made at a private dinner at Windsor Castle on Thursday before an audience of technology entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. During the Silicon Valley Comes to the UK function, Prince Andrew criticised Britain’s exit from the EU and Mr Trump’s policies. He said: “There was a vote here recently where we agreed to leave one organisation, and there’s a man in the US who it seems wants to leave every organisation. Combined, they could tear things apart.” John Mann, Labour MP for Bassetlaw, said that the prince had been “globetrotting” at public expense to promote the UK. Want to read more?

Voices, do you, do you
Ever hear voices?
Do you ever hear voices
From the dark recesses of your mind?
Voices, do you, do you
Ever hear voices?
Do you ever hear voices
Gnawing pain, driving you slowly mad?
They're always different
They never sound the same
The dark side is beckoning me back again
The phone won't stop ringing
Causing me endless agony
These voices in my head are always taunting me
I'm in my room
They've got me locked away
Nothing outside could fill all these days
I'm Jimi Hendrix
I'm Elvis the King
I know the federal government is watching me
Voices, do you
Do you ever hear voices?
Do you ever hear voices
From the dark recesses of your mind?
Voices, do you, do you
Ever hear voices?
Do you ever hear voices
Gnawing pain, driving you slowly mad?
My life has been taken over
By a part of my mind
Sanity has never been so far away
Reality and nightmare
Melt into one
This constant ringing/screaming in my head won't leave me alone
Curled up on the floor
Four walls and a bed
Me, myself and the voices in my head
Curled up on the floor
Four walls and a bed
Me, myself and the voices in my head
Curled up on the floor
Four walls and a bed
Me, myself and the voices in my head
Curled up on the floor
