Carl Paladino, who's running for Governor of New York against Democrat Andrew Cuomo, has been digging himself deeper and deeper into a hole this weekend as he struggles to convince people that while he finds homosexuality disgusting, he doesn't have a thing against gays. In fact, he is "unequivocally" for gay rights, although he opposes gay marriage. [Read more]

Mayor Bertrand Delanoë of Paris has caused an international uproar with accusations of censorship by declaring that minors under the age of 18 will not be admitted to a retrospective of work by photographer and film director Larry Clark now showing in the Museum of Modern Art (MAM). The irony is that Clark's work focuses almost exclusively on teens, often doing things that are usually considered "adult"—like using drugs and having sex. [Read more]

Genderbending is very definitely becoming more and more a part of the mainstream. Where crossdressing was once solely an indicator of freakishness or a source of demeaning humor (for instance, Milton Berle or Flip Wilson), two different prominent magazines this month have shown mainstream celebrities in drag not as a form of ridicule, but of style. Perhaps this should be put under the category of "not helping." In order to "support" the right of Augusta State University graduate student Jennifer Keeton to refuse to provide counseling to gays and lesbians, the KKK is going to hold a rally at the university in full Klan garb. Bobby Spurlock, the Klan's imperial wizard knighthawk and grand dragon of North and South Carolina, says that the Klan believes the school violated the counseling student's constitutional rights by requiring her to participate in a remediation program so that she could better work with gay and lesbian clients. A court in Hong Kong yesterday denied the right to marry to a transgender woman who had filed a legal challenge against Hong Kong's marriage laws. The plaintiff, who underwent sex reassignment surgery in 2008 and can legally be referred to only as "W," argued that her rights under the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were violated because Hong Kong's Marriage Registry allows only cisgendered men and women to marry. We wade through an awful lot of bad news every day, including every variety of homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, and puritanism you can think of, so when we come across news this good, we have to report it: according to a new report published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, youth under the age of 18 are using condoms at a rate four times that of adults over 40. In asking 3,457 people aged 14 to 94 whether they had used condoms in their last ten acts of intercourse, the study found that: [Read more]

If you're openly gay—or an unmarried woman who is *ahem* "living in sin" with a man—you may want to give up on a career in education. At least, if Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) has his way. At a church rally in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Friday, DeMint gave his opinion on who should be allowed to teach the nation's children in no uncertain terms: [Read more]

What is there to say about this, except that it seems kind of inevitable? An English beauty and skin care company named Rodial is marketing a cream that they promise women will not only make their breasts grow up to half a cup size, but increase in firmness and "lift" within 56 days of first application. According to their ad copy, the logic that's supposed to make this work is as follows: [Read more]
