Boulevard Road, Dal Lake, Srinagar, Kashmir, India: The most prestigious road in Srinagar, Kashmir, India is the Boulevard Road which lies entirely on the banks of Dal Lake, Srinagar, Kashmir, India. The road is also connected to the Foreshore Road. While driving across the road it provides glances of beauty of Dal Lake and in hot summers people rest on roadside and feel the cool breeze of Dal Lake and enjoy the charming sunset from the horizon. Majority of renowned hotels at Srinagar like Hotel Duke, Hotel Imperial Lake View, Hotel Paradise, Hotel Zabarban, Hotel Parimahal to name a few are situated by the Boulevard road. Most of the tourist prefer to stay at a hotel located by the Boulevard Road and that is why the room rent of the hotels here is slightly higher. Due to this fact outnumbered tourists can be seen on the Boulevard Road. The Boulevard road is strictly maintained by Government of Jammu and Kashmir regularly.

I met this Italian girl in Delhi when she was about to start her India trip. She spoke of starting from the top ie Kashmir but had been warned by other people not to go because "there are muslims there" and "there is conflict". We ended up becoming good friends and at the end of my trip I invited her to come see Kashmir and stay with my family.
This is her journey.

Shikara ride is a must do activity for every tourist and is popular the world over, along with the stay in over 1000 House Boats on the lake. Boat passes through Nehru Garden, Floating Market, Village, Vegetable Farms, Lotus Farm, House Boats, and Meena Bazaar. The ride takes at least 1 hour and really very enjoyable.

Dal lake is mentioned as Mahasarit (Sanskrti-महासरित्) in ancient Sanskrit texts. Ancient history records mention that a village named Isabar to the east of Dal Lake was the residence of goddess Durga. This place was known as Sureshwari on the bank of the lake, which was sourced by a spring called the Satadhara.
During the Mughal period, the Mughal rulers of India designated Kashmir, Srinagar in particular, as their summer resort. They developed the precincts of the Dal lake in Srinagar with sprawling Mughal-type gardens and pavilions as pleasure resorts to enjoy the salubrious cool climate. After the death of Aurangzeb in 1707, which led to the disintegration of the Mughal Empire, Pashtun tribes in the area around the lake and city increased, and the Durrani Empire ruled the city for several decades.In 1814 a significant part of the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar, was annexed by Raja Ranjit Singh to his kingdom, and the Sikhs grew in influence in the region for 27 years.

National Highway 1 (NH 1), also known as Srinagar-Leh Highway, is a National Highway entirely within the state of Jammu & Kashmir in North India that connects Srinagar to Leh in Ladakh and is maintained by Project Vijayak of the Border Roads Organisation. It is one of the only two roads that connect Ladakh with the rest of India, the other being Leh-Manali Highway. The Srinagar-Leh Highway was declared as National Highway in 2006.[1][2]

Srinagar
Srinagar /ˈsriˌnʌɡʌr/ (
listen ) is the largest city and the summer capital of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It lies on the banks of the Jhelum River, a tributary of the Indus, and Dal and Anchar lakes. The city is famous for its gardens, waterfronts and houseboats. It is also known for traditional Kashmiri handicrafts and dried fruits.
Origin of names
Folk etymology draws the city name from two Sanskrit words: śrī ("glory, prosperity", a name for the goddess Lakshmi) and nagar("city"), which would make "City of Lakshmi" (or, "City of Prosperity").
However, the earliest records mention the name as siri-nagar which in turn is a local transformation of the original Sanskrit name sūrya-nagar, meaning "City of Sun" (or, of sun god).
History
Ancient period
The Burzahom archaeological site located 10 km from Srinagar has revealed the presence of neolithic and megalithic cultures.
According to Kalhana's 12th century text Rajatarangini, a king named Pravarasena II established a new capital named Pravarapura (also known as Pravarasena-pura). Based on topographical details, Pravarapura appears to be same as the modern city of Srinagar. Aurel Stein dates the king to sixth century CE.

She spoke of starting from the top ie Kashmir but had been warned by other people not to go because "there are muslims there" and "there is conflict". We ended up becoming good friends and at the end of my trip I invited her to come see Kashmir and stay with my family.

Dal lake is mentioned as Mahasarit (Sanskrti-महासरित्) in ancient Sanskrit texts. Ancient history records mention that a village named Isabar to the east of Dal Lake was the residence of goddess Durga. This place was known as Sureshwari on the bank of the lake, which was sourced by a spring called the Satadhara.
During the Mughal period, the Mughal rulers of India designated Kashmir, Srinagar in particular, as their summer resort. They developed the precincts of the Dal lake in Srinagar with sprawling Mughal-type gardens and pavilions as pleasure resorts to enjoy the salubrious cool climate. After the death of Aurangzeb in 1707, which led to the disintegration of the Mughal Empire, Pashtun tribes in the area around the lake and city increased, and the Durrani Empire ruled the city for several decades.In 1814 a significant part of the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar, was annexed by Raja Ranjit Singh to his kingdom, and the Sikhs grew in influence in the region for 27 years.

Srinagar violence: Death toll reaches 23; Amarnath Yatra pilgrims stranded
Normal life for the people in the violence-hit Kashmir valley is still a distant dream even after three days due to curfew-like restrictions and separatists-sponsored strike. The protest is on in the wake of the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen poster boy Burhan Wani on Friday. So far, the clash between protesters and security forces in Kashmir has resulted in the death of 23 people. More than 250 persons have been injured in the violence and the situation continues to be tense across the valley. Meanwhile, pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra remain stranded as Srinagar-Jammu National Highway has remained out of bounds for the third day. -

NIT Srinagar campus becomes battleground | students protest, lathicharged; CRPF deployed 6th April
Unrest was witnessed again on Tuesday at NIT Srinagar, the scene of last week's clash, with outstation students expressing a sense of insecurity and attempting to leave the campus, leading to a confrontation with police which resorted to lathicharge in which some were injured. With the situation being tense, CRPF was tonight deployed at campus and Jammu and Kashmir government assured full security to the students from other states studying here. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also called up Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and discussed with her the situation at NIT.
