Sindhi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by about 30 million people in Pakistan and 1.7 million in India. It uses the Perso-Arabic script in Pakistan, while both Perso-Arabic and Devanagari scripts are used in India. The language is first mentioned in the N�?tyaś�?stra (200 B.C.–200 A.D.), with the earliest written evidence being a Qur'an translation from 883 A.D. Sindhi was influenced by Persian and Arabic after the Umayyad conquest in 712 CE, and its literary tradition flourished during the Medieval period, notably with Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s poetry. Under British rule, Sindhi was further developed, securing its current status in Pakistan. The language's name derives from the Sanskrit word síndhu, referring to the Indus River. The Sindhi people have a rich and vibrant culture characterized by strong family ties, hospitality, and a deep respect for tradition. Historically, Sindh has been a melting pot of various cultures, resulting in a unique blend of South Asian, Persian, and Arab influences. Sindhi culture is renowned for its music, folk dances, and spiritual Sufi traditions. Sindhi cuisine is known for its flavorful dishes, including sai bhaji (a spinach-based dish), biryani, and ladoo (sweet treats). The Sindhi community is also known for its contributions to arts, literature, and commerce, maintaining strong connections with their heritage while embracing modernity. Sindh and the surrounding areas house remnants of the Indus Valley Civilization, with Mohenjo-Daro being a key example. Built around 2500 BCE, Mohenjo-Daro was one of the largest cities of the Harappan culture, known for its advanced urban planning, standardized bricks, street grids, drainage systems, and water supply infrastructure. The city, contemporaneous with ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, was abandoned around the 19th century BCE as the Indus Civilization declined, likely due to environmental changes that reduced water supplies. Rediscovered in the 1920s, Mohenjo-Daro became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980 but faces threats from erosion and improper restoration efforts. The civilization at its peak may have supported a population of up to five million people. This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes.
