Minix Neo U1 Android TV Box Prices & Availability: http://geni.us/MinixU1
This is my review of the Minix Neo U1 that features the new Amlogic S905 Cpu, the Pentacore Mali 450, 2gB of DDR3 Ram and 16GB of eMMC 5.0 Flash Storage with Android Loliipop 5.1.1
I benchmarked the Minix Neo U1 with:
- Disk Speed Test, Antuntu, Geekbench 3, Network Speed Test, 3D Mark Score & Epic Citadel.
Tested the Minix Neo U1 with:
- Big Buch Buny, Tears of Steal and Sintel Movies with H264 and H265 Codecs at 1080p and 4K resolutions without any problems whatsoever.
- To test out 10 Bit playback capability i run 2 sample movies from Samsung, The Iceland and Dive Into The New World, both Ultra HD 10 bit video and the U1 played everything just perfect.
In terms of Android gaming platform the Neo U1 is capable of playing the most demanding games and the ones tested were Respawnables and Asphalt 8 Airborn.
Also capable of Game Stream at 1080p resolution and 60FPS.
Airplay was also very smooth, used Air Pin Pro App included with the Minix Neo U1 and i could mirror the Iphone 4S and the Ipad Mini with Retina Display and stream content from it.
I also mirrored the Imac that delivers a higher bit rate files and played live slide shows from it and also a apple event and no issues once again.
Things I did Like The Most:
- Usual Great Build Quality from Minix Boxes
- Really Fast Storage
- Crazy Wifi And Ethernet Speeds
- Smooth Video And Audio Playback in All File Formats
- Capable of Game Stream at 1080 60fps
Things i Did Like The Least:
- So far Nothing

Very fluid stable player
Runs cool even while gaming
Internal data transfer much faster than previous boxes. For example I could copy/paste large files pretty quickly
good price point
A2 lite remote has good range.
Sleep mode/screen off works really well. Probably the best if seen from smaller brand box
Video playback is very smooth. UI even in 4k is very fluid.
Cons:
I really wish video screen capture worked on this or any android pure android player right now.
I wish the at remote had a setting that when you turned it upside down the air mouse paused
GPU not much of an upgrade form X8. They did this to hit lower price point.

Build quality is awesome. The aluminum looks and feels great.

Excellent high quality video playback
Cons:
When the PC is working hard sometimes the mouse/keyboard is laggy. I wonder if the case blocks or reflects the signal. Using a USB hub helps.
CPU is not that fast compared to my i7 desktop. I hear an i3 version is coming.

MINIX
MINIX (from "mini-Unix") is a POSIX-compliant, Unix-like computer operating system based on a microkernel architecture.
Early versions of MINIX were created by Andrew S. Tanenbaum for educational purposes. Starting with MINIX 3, the primary aim of development shifted from education to the creation of a highly reliable and self-healing microkernel OS. MINIX is now developed as open-source software.
MINIX was first released in 1987, with its complete source code made available to universities for study in courses and research. It has been free and open source software since it was re-licensed under the BSD license in April 2000.
Implementation
MINIX 1.0
Andrew S. Tanenbaum created MINIX at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam to exemplify the principles conveyed in his textbook, Operating Systems: Design and Implementation (1987).
An abridged 12,000 lines of the C source code of the kernel, memory manager, and file system of MINIX 1.0 are printed in the book. Prentice-Hall also released MINIX source code and binaries on floppy disk with a reference manual. MINIX 1 was system-call compatible with Seventh Edition Unix.

I benchmarked the Minix Neo U1 with:

Tested the Minix Neo U1 with:
- Big Buch Buny, Tears of Steal and Sintel Movies with H264 and H265 Codecs at 1080p and 4K resolutions without any problems whatsoever.
- To test out 10 Bit playback capability i run 2 sample movies from Samsung, The Iceland and Dive Into The New World, both Ultra HD 10 bit video and the U1 played everything just perfect.

Airplay was also very smooth, used Air Pin Pro App included with the Minix Neo U1 and i could mirror the Iphone 4S and the Ipad Mini with Retina Display and stream content from it.
I also mirrored the Imac that delivers a higher bit rate files and played live slide shows from it and also a apple event and no issues once again.
Things I did Like The Most:

- Really Fast Storage
- Crazy Wifi And Ethernet Speeds
- Smooth Video And Audio Playback in All File Formats
- Capable of Game Stream at 1080 60fps

GPU not much of an upgrade form X8. They did this to hit lower price point.

When the PC is working hard sometimes the mouse/keyboard is laggy. I wonder if the case blocks or reflects the signal. Using a USB hub helps.

In terms of Android gaming platform the Neo U1 is capable of playing the most demanding games and the ones tested were Respawnables and Asphalt 8 Airborn.
