Clybourn is a railroad station in Chicago serving Metra's Union Pacific/North Line and Union Pacific/Northwest Line. It is located at 2001 North Ashland Avenue (at West Armitage Avenue) and is the first station north of Ogilvie Transportation Center. Clybourn is located at Clybourn Junction, where the Union Pacific/North Line and Union Pacific/Northwest Line separate. Clybourn Junction was named for its location near Clybourn Place, the home of the Clybourn family, early settlers in the Chicago area. Clybourn is situated between the Bucktown and DePaul neighborhoods, several miles north of downtown Chicago. In Metra's zone-based fare schedule, Clybourn is in zone A.
North Line and Northwest Line trains stop on separate platforms, between which is a small parking lot. The busy Kennedy Expressway passes to the west of the station and the north branch of the Chicago River is several blocks to the east. There is no ticket agent booth at the station; passengers must buy tickets on the train after boarding.

North is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. North is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of south and is perpendicular to east and west.
The word north is related to the Old High German nord, both descending from the Proto-Indo-European unit ner-, meaning "down" (or "under"). (Presumably a natural primitive description of its concept is "to the left of the rising sun".)
The Latin word borealis comes from the Greek boreas "north wind, north", which, according to Ovid, was personified as the son of the river-god Strymon, the father of Calais and Zetes. Septentrionalis is from septentriones, "the seven plow oxen", a name of Ursa Maior. The Greek arktikos is named for the same constellation, and is the derivation of the English word "Arctic".
Other languages have sometimes more interesting derivations. For example, in Lezgian, kefer can mean both 'disbelief' and 'north', since to the north of the Muslim Lezgian homeland there are areas formerly inhabited by non-Muslim Caucasian and Turkic peoples. In many languages of Mesoamerica, "north" also means "up". In Hungarian the word for north is észak, which is derived from éjszaka ("night"), since above the Tropic of Cancer, the Sun never shines from the north.
Red Line may refer to:
The Clybourn Corridor is a shopping district in Lincoln Park, stretching into the Near North Side in Chicago, Illinois. It serves as the residential Northside's main shopping district and includes retailers like Apple Inc., Crate & Barrel & CB2, Eddie Bauer, Forever 21, and Sur La Table, among many others. The newly opened New City shopping center includes Dick's Sporting Goods, while also having Chicago's first ArcLight Cinemas, a Kings Bowl, and Chicago's largest Mariano's grocery store. The development also includes a sleek-looking apartment tower featuring 199 units. This is part of a continuing trend of adding apartments and condos to the corridor in an effort to stem rising prices in the surrounding area.
The CTA Red Line stops in the heart of the shopping district at North/Clybourn. In a dual effort, Apple Inc. and the CTA redesigned a former bus turnaround separating the Apple Store and CTA Station into a pedestrian plaza with Parisian park chairs and a water feature. The plaza serves as a refuge from the chaotic Clybourn/Halsted/North intersection and has proven a popular meeting place for commuters and shoppers alike.
Along Union Pacific's Harvard subdivision, Clybourn Station marks the beginning of the Kenosha sub, and both lines split there. The Harvard sub going to Harvard, IL and on to Janesville, WI, on a straight 45 degree angle Northwest from there, hence the name Metra UP Northwest line. The Kenosha sub goes to Kenosha, WI, and continues North, pretty much going directly North from Chicago near the Lake Michigan beaches and lake shore, hence the name Metra UP North line. The Northwest line is Metra's longest line in terms of mileage, and the North line is the only Metra line to go in another state, being Wisconsin. Most of this is due in part of Chicago & Northwestern's well known commuter and passenger service. Clybourn was a CNW station, it once had a big building between the tracks where t...
Joe Askins of YoChicago.com takes a look around the new North / Clybourn Red Line station on the border of Chicago's Lincoln Park and Near North Side neighborhoods. North / Clybourn was renovated during the construction of a new Apple Store, positioned immediately across a small courtyard. Travelers getting off the train at North / Clybourn can quickly reach a number of nearby box stores, the northern reaches of the Old Town and Gold Coast neighborhoods, and popular destinations like the Steppenwolf Theatre and the restaurant Alinea.

Getting a heads up from a friend that a UP excursion (using the same cars from UP Family Days) would pass by Clybourn Station on the Kenosha Sub, I hurried over to my local Metra station to catch it. It has 2 GP15s because they have a failsafe system called ATS that require a locomotive equipped with ATS to lead. (The SD70ACes were taken off) The SD70ACes were also taken off because they are too heavy for certain bridges on the Kenosha sub. I got there and waited about 2 minutes, until I noticed a UP crane with a Bay Window CNW MOW (Maintenance Of Way) caboose and 2 MoPac Flat cars slowly approaching. As you watch the video, all it was doing was dropping a dirt loader to help with a new stair case project for commuters to get to the inbound side of UP North Line's Clybourn Station from As...
A unique partnership between the CTA and Apple made the improvements at the North/Clybourn CTA station possible without taking a bite out of the CTA budget. Bright and airy....this is the newly refurbished North and Clybourn Station....just a few steps away from the shiny new Apple store that opened in October.

Starting with a look around the surface at the Brown Line's "S"-curves around the intersection of North and Halsted, plus the CTA #8-Halsted bus, here's a tour of the recently-refurbished North/Clybourn Red Line subway station. This used to be in the middle of the infamous Cabrini-Green Homes area, a notorious, violent neighbourhood. Now, for better or worse, it has become gentrified and upscale, with shops and condos moving in. The Apple Store has just opened this month (October 2010), and is now practically a part of this station. Apple invested $4 million in the project. Past the Apple Store, I enter the station through its curved front, a remnant of the original 1940s art deco design. Through the turnstiles, down the stairs (and under the glaring Apple ad), to the mezzanine, with...

The CTA has more than 224 miles of railroad tracks across Chicago and surrounding suburbs, serving the agency's eight rail lines. In an average weekday, there are about 2,200 train trips making stops at the system's 145 rail stations. For more than 100 years, the 'L' has offered a unique perspective of Chicago. In the first-ever documentation of its kind, the CTA has created a real-time ride along the length of each rail line. Shot in HD, you can now experience the 'L' like never before from the vantage point of the rail operator. You can even transfer between lines. Hop aboard, and enjoy the ride. News release: http://ow.ly/d/41pk Nov. 20, 2015 The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), in partnership with the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), announced today that the final touches will be completed over the coming days on the new protected bike lanes along Clybourn Avenue in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood. The project involved building the first protected bike lanes ever on a state route, further demonstrating IDOT’s commitment to increasing travel choices and improving mobility by providing more options for bicyclists and pedestrians.

Take a look at Chicago's Grand Central Station. It was demolished shortly after it closed for a redevelopment that except for one building project, never really happened! See photos scanned from the February 2nd 1970 edition of the C&O-B;&O; employee newsletter "Chessie News." This Norman style depot is now considered Chicago's "Penn Station" which was torn down to make way for the new Madison Square Garden. Grand Central Station was built in the 1890's for Soo Line predecessor Wisconsin Central(no relation to the modern Wisconsin Central now Canadian National) and the Chicago St Paul & Kansas City ( Later to become the Chicago Great Western, then the Chicago & North Western and now the Union Pacific). It was home for the trains of the Chesapeake & Ohio(through the Pere Marquette Railroad)...

If Chicago was built on a grid system how did so many diagonal streets come about. To understand the origin on these roads we have to look back to the very beginning of Chicago. http://EricRojasBlog.com One of the best ways to learn about a neighborhood is to take a walk or a drive through it with a real estate agent who knows it well. Earlier today, after viewing a townhome that's for sale in southeast Ravenswood, I asked Kale Realty's Eric Rojas to show me around the area and talk about the reasons that have attracted people to the neighborhood. We covered only a small area, from Montrose Ave north to Lawrence Ave, east of Damen Ave. As you'll see in the video, the area has great public transportation, restaurants, bars, schools and a wide variety of housing, from 1-bedrooms in the mid-$100s to large new and old homes priced upwards of $2 million. Note: Eric Rojas is one of YoChicago's advertisers.

Ken Davis is joined by Mike Holzer of North Branch Works. They discuss the future of the Planned Manufacturing District on the North side between Clybourn and Elston avenues, where several large plants have left and there’s pressure to redevelop the zone for residential and commercial projects. Chicago needs to redefine “industrial” to include modern manufacturing, he says, in order to keep the PMD and encourage jobs in the area. This program was produced by Chicago Access Network Television (CAN TV).
This rare video captures Van Cliburn's celebratory concert after winning the 1958 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. As far as I know it has not been published. Creole babies from Manhattan,
Will be leaving Harlem if htey can,
Yeah, man! Oh, yeah, man!
When Hollywood goes black and tan!
Louis Armstrong with his trumpet
Will be heading westward with his band,
Yeah, man! Oh, yeah, man!
When Hollywood goes black and tan!
Harlem crooners with a swing will be singing at the studio,
Makes no difference if you can't sing, just say, "he-de-he-de-hi-de-ho!"
When they start to swing that rhythm
I'll be heading for that promised land,
Yeah, man! Oh, yeah, man!
Yeah, man! Oh, yeah, man!
You won't find them wing and bucking,
Everybody will be truckin'
It's gonna be grand,
When Hollywood goes black and tan!
The mayor of Harlem says he'll be there
To give those boys a helping hand,
Yeah, man! Oh, yeah, man!
When Hollywood goes black and tan!
Old Bob Howard made a promise
To latch on to that baby grand,
Yeah, man! Oh, yeah, man!
When Hollywood goes black and tan!
Steppin Fetchit's gonna sing and dance like Fred Astaire,
Nina May don't have to sing 'cause she can be petit like Ina Claire.
Water's gonna do a fan dance
And shake the feathers off her fan,
Yeah, man! Oh, yeah, man!
Yeah, man! Oh, yeah, man!
Here's good news and it's the newest,
Braddock's going to meet Joe Louis,
It's gonna be grand,
