A parliament is a legislature whose power and function are similar to those dictated by the Westminster system of the United Kingdom. More generally, "parliament" may simply refer to a democratic government's legislature. The term is derived from the French parlement, the action of parler (to speak): a parlement is a discussion. The term came to mean a meeting at which such a discussion took place.[when?] It acquired its modern meaning as it came to be used for the body of people (in an institutional sense) who would meet to discuss matters of state.
The use of the term “parliament” first occurred in 1236 in England. Previously, this group of the king’s closest advisors had been called the “council”. After agreeing to the principle of “common consent” in the Magna Carta, King John had to increase the size of this group of advisors and include more commoners. He then had to submit his requests for increased taxation to this newly expanded group. Two distinct groups emerged among the commoners: the landed gentry, and the rich merchants and lawyers.

Parliament-Funkadelic is a funk, soul and rock music collective headed by George Clinton. Their style has been dubbed P-Funk. Collectively the group has existed under various names since the 1960s and has been known for top-notch musicianship, politically charged lyrics, outlandish concept albums and memorable live performances. They influenced numerous post-disco and post-punk music groups of the 1980s and 1990s.
The collective's origins date back to the doo-wop group The Parliaments, formed in the late 1950s in Plainfield, New Jersey. Under Clinton's direction, by the early 1970s the groups Parliament and Funkadelic were operating concurrently and consisted of the same stable of musicians playing different types of funk music for two different labels. The name "Parliament-Funkadelic" became the catch-all term for the multiple bands in Clinton's stable. By the late 1970s the collective had grown to include dozens of musicians recording and touring under many different group names and solo projects. (See P-Funk offshoot groups and solo ventures.) Overall, the collective achieved thirteen top ten hits in the American R&B music charts between 1967 and 1983, including six number one hits. Funkadelic is a funk band with a psychedelic rock touch whose influences include the amplifier sounds of Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, James Brown's funk, blues, Sun Ra's experimentation, Frank Zappa's and the Coasters' humour, the concept albums of the Beatles and the Who and southern soul artists like Otis Redding and Screamin' Jay Hawkins. Parliament is a funk/R&B band whose influences are the funky side of Hendrix and Sly Stone, Motown soul groups turned funk groups like the Temptations, the political songs of the Impressions, Rufus Thomas' southern funk, doo-wop groups like the Coasters for the humour and Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers.

If you’ve been missing Lalu Prasad Yadav’s witty oratory in Parliament – the Rashtriya Janata Dal leader has been disqualified for his involvement in the Fodder Scam – it seems that there is a near identical replacement from, surprise, the Bharatiya Janata Party. Like Lalu, Hukmdev Narayan Yadav is also a Yadav leader from Bihar, a former member of the Janata Party who even today strongly idolises Ram Manohar Lohia and his socialism. And like Lalu, it seems Hukmdev is quite the orator, delivering a witty speech in Parliament on Monday, filled with earthy humour and wise cracks which had the House in splits. In his 30-minute speech, as part of the discussion on the Union Budget, Hukmdev launched into a Lohiaite critique of the Congress, castigating the party for not taking care of the rural populace and backward castes and for splitting the country in two parts – “India” and “Bharat”. Accusing the party of not being Lohiaite enough, he expressed the hope that the Modi government would be.

Khaled Al Qazzaz, his Canadian born wife Sarah Attia and their four Canadian children remain arbitrarily prevented from leaving Egypt in violation of international law. The family has suffered for over 1000 days in an extremely difficult ordeal. The prevention of travel follows over 500 days of arbitrary solitary confinement detention of Khaled Al Qazzaz.
Over a thousand emails have been sent to members of Parliament since December 2015 encouraging the Canadian government to intervene at the highest levels of Egyptian government for their safe return to Canada.
With the deteriorating security situation in Egypt, human rights groups are calling on the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau in his capacity as the Prime Minister and Minister of Youth to do everything in his power to help end this ordeal and bring
this family home.

Osmium is the debut album of American funk band Parliament, led by George Clinton. The album has a psychedelic soul sound with a spirit of experimentation that is more similar to early Funkadelic than the later R&B-inspired; Parliament albums. It was originally released in July 1970 on Invictus Records.[5] The original vinyl release contained a glossy lyric sheet. Osmium is the debut album of American funk band Parliament, led by George Clinton. The album has a psychedelic soul sound with a spirit of experimentation that is more similar to early Funkadelic than the later R&B-inspired; Parliament albums. It was originally released in July 1970 on Invictus Records.[5] The original vinyl release contained a glossy lyric sheet.
Since its re-release in 1990, Osmium has been distributed numerous times by various labels in the U.S., Europe and Japan, sometimes under alternate titles that have included Rhenium and First Thangs. A number of these reissues have featured material that was not included on the original album, such as unreleased tracks and singles that were recorded around the same time as Osmium.
The personnel for this album included the five Parliaments singers and the five backing musicians known as Funkadelic.
