Dame Vera Lynn, DBE (born Vera Margaret Welch; 20 March 1917), widely known as "The Forces' Sweetheart", is an English singer, songwriter, and actress whose musical recordings and performances were enormously popular during the Second World War. During the war, she toured Egypt, India, and Burma, giving outdoor concerts for the troops. The songs most associated with her are "We'll Meet Again", "The White Cliffs of Dover", "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square", and "There'll Always Be an England".
She remained popular after the war, appearing on radio and television in the UK and the United States and recording such hits as "Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart" and her UK Number one single "My Son, My Son".
In 2009, she became the oldest living artist to make it to No. 1 on the British album chart, at age 92. She has devoted much time and energy to charity work connected with ex-servicemen, disabled children, and breast cancer. She is still held in great affection by veterans of the Second World War and was named the Briton who best exemplified the spirit of the twentieth century in 2000.

Plot: In this comedy, set during the Nazi occupation of France, Peter Sellers plays most major male parts, so he stars in nearly every scene, always bumbling in inspector Clouseau-style. As British Major Robinson he is hidden in Madame Grenier's Parisian brothel, right under the nose of the Nazi clients, such as Gestapo agent Herr Schroeder (again him). As Général Latour he leads the French resistance, which includes the brothel madam -made a colonel in charge of her sexy 'troops'- and a priest, and is joined by young US diplomat Alan Cassidy. As Japanese imperial Prince Kyoto he becomes a target for the resistance in a monastery on his way to Hitler (again him). At the end he decorates the heroes as French president.

[Lyrics Vera Lynn - Beautiful Isle of Somewhere] Beautiful isle of somewhere Somewhere the sun is shining Somewhere the songbirds dwell Hush then, thy sad repining God lives and all is well Somewhere, somewhere Beautiful isle of somewhere Land of the true Where we live anew Beautiful isle of somewhere Somewhere the load is lifted Close by an open gate Somewhere the clouds are rifted Somewhere the angels wait Somewhere, somewhere Beautiful isle of somewhere Land of the true Where we live anew Beautiful isle of somewhere
[Lyrics Vera Lynn - And So to Sleep Again] And so to sleep again, as if I'll ever sleep again These restless nights go on away from you And so to dream again, as if I'll ever dream again My darling, since you've gone, my dreams are through No other arms can ease this ache within my heart No other lips can kiss away these tears that start And so to sleep again, as if I'll ever sleep again As if I'll ever love again anyone but you
[Lyrics Vera Lynn - Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart] (Auf wiedersehen, auf wiedersehen) (We'll meet again, sweetheart) This lovely day has flown away The time has come to part We'll kiss again, like this again Don't let the teardrops start With love that's true, I'll wait for you Auf wiedersehen, sweetheart Auf wiedersehen, auf wiedersehen We'll meet again, sweetheart This lovely day has flown away The time has come to part We'll kiss again, like this again Don't let the teardrops start With love that's true, I'll wait for you Auf wiedersehen, sweetheart
I'll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine
Embraces all day through
In that small cafe
The park across the way
The children's carousel
The chestnut trees, the wishing well
I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
But I'll be seeing you
I'll be seeing you
In every lovely summer's day
In everything that's light and gay
I'll always think of you that way
I'll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I'll be looking at the moon
