Dinah Shore (born Frances Rose Shore; February 29, 1916 – February 24, 1994) was an American singer, actress, television personality, and the top-charting female vocalist of the 1940s. She reached the height of her popularity as a recording artist during the Big Band era of the 1940s and 1950s, but achieved even greater success a decade later, in television, mainly as hostess of a series of variety programs for Chevrolet.
After failing singing auditions for the bands of Benny Goodman and both Jimmy Dorsey and his brother Tommy Dorsey, Shore struck out on her own to become the first singer of her era to achieve huge solo success. She had a string of 80 charted popular hits, spanning the years 1940 to 1957, and after appearing in a handful of feature films went on to a four-decade career in American television, starring in her own music and variety shows from 1951 through 1963 and hosting two talk shows in the 1970s. TV Guide magazine ranked her at #16 on their list of the top fifty television stars of all time. Stylistically, Shore was compared to two singers who followed her in the mid-to-late 1940s and early 1950s, Doris Day and Patti Page.

Another example of classic 1950s television, this time a clip from "The Dinah Shore Show" with her singing "Imagination", a popular pop-standard with music by Jimmy Van Heusen, and lyrics by Johnny Burke. Aired in 1956 in color, but now only exists in black-and-white. Carol Channing is joined by "Hello, Dolly!" composer Jerry Herman and former "Lorelei" co-star Dody Goodman for this rare 1977 TV appearance with Dinah Shore. Carol demonstrates the famous eating scene from "Dolly," sings "So Long Dearie" with Herman at the piano and dances a wild charleston with Dody.
Finally I spent some time to upload this Dinah Shore TV Special from 1961 December. Guest Stars are Nat King Cole, George Burns, and Ginger Rogers. The picture quality is not the best because it's from the public domain, but I tried to fix it with some video filters. I also eliminated the large spectrum hiss from the audio. I think it's now much enjoyable. So Have fun with this great show fellows. Cheers, Géza.
An episode of Dinah Shore's popular NBC variety series. Guest stars are Art Carney, Betty Hutton, Boris Karloff. Lots of music and comedy. Originally aired May 17, 1957. Public Domain 1.0

ABBA appeared on the DINAH SHORE Show with a small interview with American talkshow host, Dinah Shore. The interview was very short and they only discussed who lived with who, who was married to who and which one had the blonde hair! Over the closing credits is the notice: "The appearance of ABBA is paid for by Atlantic Records"!! NB. Dinah Shore died in 1994. Her show premiered 9 September 1974 and continued through to 4 September 1981. She started out the 70's with Dinah's Place which usually featured one guest and was more of a home oriented show about cooking, crafts and occasionally music. This format lasted until May of 1974. When the show came back in October of 1974 the format had changed drastically to a variety talk show which was called Dinah! and went on until 1981. This sho...

East is east and west is west
And the wrong one I have chose
Let's go where I'll keep on wearin'
Those frills and flowers and buttons and bows
Rings and things and buttons and bows
Don't bury me in this prairie
Take me where the cement grows
Let's move down to some big town
Where they love a gal by the cut of her clothes
And I'll stand out in buttons and bows
I'll love you in buckskin
Or skirts that I've homespun
But I'll love you longer, stronger where
Your friends don't tote a gun
My bones denounce the buckboard bounce
And the cactus hurts my toes
Let's vamoose where gals keep usin'
Those silks and satins and linen that shows
And I'm all yours in buttons and bows
My bones denounce the buckboard bounce
And the cactus hurts my toes
Let's vamoose where gals keep usin'
Those silks and satins and linen that shows
And I'm all yours in buttons and bows
Gimme eastern trimmin' where women are women
In high silk hose and peek-a-boo clothes
And French perfume that rocks the room
And I'm all yours in buttons and bows
