La gallarda fue una forma musical y danza del Renacimiento, popular en toda Europa en el Siglo XVI. Se la menciona en manuales de danza de Inglaterra, Francia, España, Alemania e Italia, entre otros.
La gallarda es improvisada, con los danzarines combinando patrones de pasos, que ocupan uno o más compases de música. Las composiciones musicales en forma de gallarda, se han seguido escribiendo e interpretando, mucho después de caer el baile en desuso.
Santiago de Murcia (1673 - 1739), fue un guitarrista y compositor español del periodo barroco.
Aunque pocos datos de su vida son conocidos, parece ser que fue discípulo de Francisco Guerau, y también músico y maestro de guitarra de la reina María Luisa de Saboya, primera esposa de Felipe V.
Murcia fue, sin género de dudas, el guitarrista más internacional del barroco hispánico. Si bien en sus primeras obras ya nos muestra un conocimiento profundo de la técnica del punteado (por ejemplo en su obra "Resumen de acompañar la parte con la guitarra", 1714), es mucho más conocido por otra fuente: el llamado Códice Saldívar nº 4, manuscrito de tablatura de guitarra de cinco órdenes.
El Códice Saldívar IV, fue encontrado por el reputado musicólogo mexicano Gabriel Saldívar (de quién tomó el nombre), en 1943, en un anticuario de León (Guanajuato - México). Esta circunstancia hizo pensar, en un principio, que Murcia pudo viajar a la Nueva España, aunque el dato es incierto. Lo que es un hecho, es que sus obras sí fueron interpretadas en el México virreinal.
En general se acepta que este manuscrito, por estar escrito de su misma mano y tener un formato familiar en él, se trata de una primera parte, de una colección mucho más extensa de música para guitarra, y de la cual un segundo manuscrito titulado "Passacalles y obras" (fechado en 1732, y que empieza con un índice del tomo segundo), sería la continuación.

The history of these paintings -- one of the most powerful evocations of love in the history of art -- is linked with the career of the Comtesse du Barry, the last mistress of Louis XV. For a pleasure pavilion she commissioned from the architect Ledoux in 1771, the countess ordered from Fragonard four canvases depicting "the four ages of love." They are the large canvases flanking the fireplace and to the right, on the adjacent south wall. Together they illustrate a love story such as any of us might have known. Beginning on the south wall, they advance from a flirtatious proposal (a young man springs out to offer a girl a rose), to a furtive meeting at the left (the lover scales the wall of a garden), to consummation or marriage on the other side of the fireplace (the girl crowns her lover with roses), to the calm enjoyment of a happy union (the reading of the love letters).
Yet, for all their beauty and passion, Madame du Barry soon returned the canvases to the artist and ordered replacements from another. Were the resemblances between the red-coated lover and Louis XV potentially embarrassing? Did the exuberant canvases seem a little old-fashioned amidst the cool neoclassicism of Ledoux's avant-garde pavilion?
For whatever reason, Fragonard was left holding onto his creations for another twenty years. Then, adding seven more canvases, he installed the lot in a cousin's villa in southern France.

Santiago de Murcia (25 July 1673 – 25 April 1739), was a Spanish guitarist and composer.
Until new research was published in 2008, few details about the life of Santiago de Murcia were known. However it is now known that he was born in Madrid and that his parents were Juan de Murcia and Magdalena Hernandez. He married Josefa Garcia in May 1695.
In his printed collection of guitar music "Resumen de acompanar" Murcia describes himself as Master of Guitar to the Spanish Queen Maria Luisa Gabriela de Savoy. She was the first wife of the first Bourbon king of Spain, Felipe V, a grandson of Louis XIV of France who succeeded to the Spanish throne on the death of Carlos II in November 1700. The marriage took place by proxy in Turin on 11 September 1701. On 3 November marriage was re-celebrated in Figueras in Catalunya. In April 1702, Felipe V left on a tour of his Italian possessions appointing Maria Luisa as regent in his absence. There is no reason to suppose that Murcia travelled with him to Naples, Italy, or met the composers Arcangelo Corelli and Alessandro Scarlatti. Maria Luisa arrived in Madrid on 30 June and Murcia is not likely to have been appointed as her Master of Guitar before this date. It is assumed that he held the post until her death in 1714. Antonio de Murcia was appointed instrument maker to the Queen in 1704.

GALLARDA - Santiago de Murcia (Códice Saldívar IV, ca. 1732). Intérpretes: Rolf Lislevand - Ensemble Kapsberger. Imágenes: Pinturas de Francisco de Goya (España). La gallarda fue una forma musical y danza del Renacimiento, popular en toda Europa en el Siglo XVI. Se la menciona en manuales de danza de Inglaterra, Francia, España, Alemania e Italia, entre otros. La gallarda es improvisada, con los danzarines combinando patrones de pasos, que ocupan uno o más compases de música. Las composiciones musicales en forma de gallarda, se han seguido escribiendo e interpretando, mucho después de caer el baile en desuso. Santiago de Murcia (1673 - 1739), fue un guitarrista y compositor español del periodo barroco. Aunque pocos datos de su vida son conocidos, parece ser que fue discípulo de Francisco Guerau, y también músico y maestro de guitarra de la reina María Luisa de Saboya, primera esposa de Felipe V. Murcia fue, sin género de dudas, el guitarrista más internacional del barroco hispánico. Si bien en sus primeras obras ya nos muestra un conocimiento profundo de la técnica del punteado (por ejemplo en su obra "Resumen de acompañar la parte con la guitarra", 1714), es mucho más conocido por otra fuente: el llamado Códice Saldívar nº 4, manuscrito de tablatura de guitarra de cinco órdenes. El Códice Saldívar IV, fue encontrado por el reputado musicólogo mexicano Gabriel Saldívar (de quién tomó el nombre), en 1943, en un anticuario de León (Guanajuato - México). Esta circunstancia hizo pensar, en un principio, que Murcia pudo viajar a la Nueva España, aunque el dato es incierto. Lo que es un hecho, es que sus obras sí fueron interpretadas en el México virreinal. The history of these paintings -- one of the most powerful evocations of love in the history of art -- is linked with the career of the Comtesse du Barry, the last mistress of Louis XV. For a pleasure pavilion she commissioned from the architect Ledoux in 1771, the countess ordered from Fragonard four canvases depicting "the four ages of love." They are the large canvases flanking the fireplace and to the right, on the adjacent south wall. Together they illustrate a love story such as any of us might have known. Beginning on the south wall, they advance from a flirtatious proposal (a young man springs out to offer a girl a rose), to a furtive meeting at the left (the lover scales the wall of a garden), to consummation or marriage on the other side of the fireplace (the girl crowns her lover with roses), to the calm enjoyment of a happy union (the reading of the love letters). Yet, for all their beauty and passion, Madame du Barry soon returned the canvases to the artist and ordered replacements from another. Were the resemblances between the red-coated lover and Louis XV potentially embarrassing? Did the exuberant canvases seem a little old-fashioned amidst the cool neoclassicism of Ledoux's avant-garde pavilion? For whatever reason, Fragonard was left holding onto his creations for another twenty years. Then, adding seven more canvases, he installed the lot in a cousin's villa in southern France. -

La gallarda fue una forma musical y danza del Renacimiento, popular en toda Europa en el Siglo XVI. Se la menciona en manuales de danza de Inglaterra, Francia, España, Alemania e Italia, entre otros.
La gallarda es improvisada, con los danzarines combinando patrones de pasos, que ocupan uno o más compases de música. Las composiciones musicales en forma de gallarda, se han seguido escribiendo e interpretando, mucho después de caer el baile en desuso.
Santiago de Murcia (1673 - 1739), fue un guitarrista y compositor español del periodo barroco.
Aunque pocos datos de su vida son conocidos, parece ser que fue discípulo de Francisco Guerau, y también músico y maestro de guitarra de la reina María Luisa de Saboya, primera esposa de Felipe V.
Murcia fue, sin género de dudas, el guitarrista más internacional del barroco hispánico. Si bien en sus primeras obras ya nos muestra un conocimiento profundo de la técnica del punteado (por ejemplo en su obra "Resumen de acompañar la parte con la guitarra", 1714), es mucho más conocido por otra fuente: el llamado Códice Saldívar nº 4, manuscrito de tablatura de guitarra de cinco órdenes.
El Códice Saldívar IV, fue encontrado por el reputado musicólogo mexicano Gabriel Saldívar (de quién tomó el nombre), en 1943, en un anticuario de León (Guanajuato - México). Esta circunstancia hizo pensar, en un principio, que Murcia pudo viajar a la Nueva España, aunque el dato es incierto. Lo que es un hecho, es que sus obras sí fueron interpretadas en el México virreinal.
En general se acepta que este manuscrito, por estar escrito de su misma mano y tener un formato familiar en él, se trata de una primera parte, de una colección mucho más extensa de música para guitarra, y de la cual un segundo manuscrito titulado "Passacalles y obras" (fechado en 1732, y que empieza con un índice del tomo segundo), sería la continuación.

The history of these paintings -- one of the most powerful evocations of love in the history of art -- is linked with the career of the Comtesse du Barry, the last mistress of Louis XV. For a pleasure pavilion she commissioned from the architect Ledoux in 1771, the countess ordered from Fragonard four canvases depicting "the four ages of love." They are the large canvases flanking the fireplace and to the right, on the adjacent south wall. Together they illustrate a love story such as any of us might have known. Beginning on the south wall, they advance from a flirtatious proposal (a young man springs out to offer a girl a rose), to a furtive meeting at the left (the lover scales the wall of a garden), to consummation or marriage on the other side of the fireplace (the girl crowns her lover with roses), to the calm enjoyment of a happy union (the reading of the love letters).
Yet, for all their beauty and passion, Madame du Barry soon returned the canvases to the artist and ordered replacements from another. Were the resemblances between the red-coated lover and Louis XV potentially embarrassing? Did the exuberant canvases seem a little old-fashioned amidst the cool neoclassicism of Ledoux's avant-garde pavilion?
For whatever reason, Fragonard was left holding onto his creations for another twenty years. Then, adding seven more canvases, he installed the lot in a cousin's villa in southern France.
