Phil Ting
Philip Y. Ting (Chinese: 丁右立; pinyin: Dīng Yòulì) (born February 9, 1969) is an American politician currently serving in the California State Assembly. He is a Democrat representing the 19th district, encompassing western San Francisco and northern San Mateo County. Prior to being elected to the state assembly, he was the Assessor-Recorder of San Francisco.
Career
Phil Ting was appointed San Francisco Assessor-Recorder in 2005 by then-Mayor Gavin Newsom, becoming San Francisco’s highest-ranking Chinese-American official at the time. He began his career as a real estate financial adviser at Arthur Andersen and CB Richard Ellis. Ting had also served as the executive director of the Asian Law Caucus, as the president of the Bay Area Assessors Association, and on the board of Equality California.
Ting has launched several programs and initiatives such as GoSolarSF and ChinaSF. In 2010, he launched Reset San Francisco, an online community that using new media to engage San Franciscans to get engage and participate in the conversation on how to improve their community and to keep government more accountable.

Appearing at Northeast Medical Services in Chinatown, Assembly Speaker John A. Pérez, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, and Assemblymember Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) today called for enactment of the Speaker's legislation, AB 2325, which would increase the number of medical interpreters to help ensure Californians with limited English receive the right medical treatment. AB 2325 requires the California Department of Health Care Services to establish a program to provide and reimburse for medical interpreter services to limited-English proficient Medi-Cal beneficiaries. With federal funds that are currently being left on the table, California can receive a 50% to 75% federal match for these services, meaning for every $25 the state puts in, the federal government could contribute up to $75. Mayor Lee & Senator Leno Announce Legislation to Amend State Ellis Act Law
Today Mayor Edwin M. Lee and State Senator Mark Leno joined State and local leaders, including Assemblymember Phil Ting and Supervisors David Chiu and David Campos along with tenant advocates, labor groups and business leaders to announce legislation closing a loophole in the Ellis Act that allows speculators to buy rent-controlled buildings in San Francisco and immediately evicting long-term tenants. To counter a recent surge in Ellis Act evictions in San Francisco, Senate Bill 1439 authorizes the City to prohibit new property owners from invoking the Ellis Act to evict tenants for five years after the acquisition of a property, ensures that landlords can only activate their Ellis Act rights once, and creates penalties for those who violate the law.

Today Mayor Edwin M. Lee and State Senator Mark Leno joined State and local leaders, including Assemblymember Phil Ting and Supervisors David Chiu and David Campos along with tenant advocates, labor groups and business leaders to announce legislation closing a loophole in the Ellis Act that allows speculators to buy rent-controlled buildings in San Francisco and immediately evicting long-term tenants. To counter a recent surge in Ellis Act evictions in San Francisco, Senate Bill 1439 authorizes the City to prohibit new property owners from invoking the Ellis Act to evict tenants for five years after the acquisition of a property, ensures that landlords can only activate their Ellis Act rights once, and creates penalties for those who violate the law.
