Nach den dunklen Jahren des Krieges zwischen Hoffen und Bangen, zwischen Leben und Tod markiert das Ende des "Dritten Reiches" zugleich einen Neuanfang. Die "Stunde Null" ließ Sieger und Besiegte, Soldaten und Gefangene, die Überlebenden in den Konzentrationslagern, die Flüchtlinge und Vertriebenen sowie die Bewohner der zerbombten Städte aufatmen. Für einen Moment schien die Geschichte stillzustehen. Doch der Schein trog. Nicht nur Trauer und Verzweiflung über den Tod von Verwandten und Freunden, auch den Verlust von Idealen, die pervertiert worden waren, galt es zu verkraften. Der Erkenntnis vieler Deutschen, schamlos betrogen worden zu sein, folgte die deprimierende Aussicht, daß Jahre des Hungers, der Not und der Entbehrung bevorstanden. Im Film prallen Erinnerungen an den 8. Mai 1945 aufeinander, wie sie unterschiedlicher nicht sein könnten: Kindersoldaten, die noch in den Trümmern für den "Endsieg" kämpften. Der Elendszug der Flüchtlinge. Der Kampf ums nackte Überleben. Das "Frau komm" der Sowjets und die Lucky Strikes der Amerikaner. Die Konfrontation mit der Wahrheit über die Konzentrationslager und die Hoffnung, daß es irgendwie weitergeht. Erinnerungen, die schmerzen - auch heute noch. Im "ZDF-Jahrhundertbus" äußerten sich viele Zeitzeugen zum ersten Mal, wie sie die schwerste Stunde der deutschen Geschichte erlebten: Menschen, die auf der Flucht waren, Frauen, die noch in den letzten Tagen des Krieges ihre Männer verloren, Männer, die den Tag der Kapitulation in der Kriegsgefangenschaft erlebten, und solche, die froh waren, zum ersten Mal Glen Miller zu hören. Der Film zeigt, daß "Die Stunde Null" nicht nur Ende, sondern auch Anfang war. Der Film "Die Stunde Null" von Peter Adler zeigt, wie zwiespältig bei vielen Deutschen die Empfindungen bis heute sind.

But the Indonesian independence movement had been started since 1908 and now it is commemorated as the Tahun Kebangkitan Bangsa (Year of National Awakening). The struggle lasted for over four years and involved sporadic but bloody armed conflict, internal Indonesian political and communal upheavals, and two major international diplomatic interventions. Dutch forces were not able to prevail over the Indonesians. Although Dutch forces could control the towns and cities in Republican heartlands on Java and Sumatra, they could not control villages and the countryside. Thus, the Republic of Indonesia ultimately prevailed as much through international diplomacy as it did through Indonesian determination in the armed conflicts on Java and other islands. The revolution destroyed the colonial administration of the Dutch East Indies which had ruled from the other side of the world. It also significantly changed racial castes, as well as reducing the power of many of the local rulers (raja). It did not significantly improve the economic or political fortune of the majority of the population, though a few Indonesians were able to gain a larger role in commerce.
