Author Simon Reeve undertakes a thrilling journey through the most obscure countries in the world -- Places That Don't Exist.

There are almost 200 official countries in the world, but there are dozens more breakaway states which are determined to be separate and independent. The breakaway states have their own rulers, parliaments or warlords, and are home to millions of people, but they're not officially recognised as proper countries by the rest of the world. Several have their own armies and police forces, and issue passports and even postage stamps which the rest of the world ignores.
All of the breakaway states have declared independence after violent struggles with a neighbouring state. Some now survive peacefully, but others are a magnet for terrorists and weapons smuggling, and have armies ready for a fight. All could be at the centre of future wars which threaten their regions and the wider world.
In a world of easy adventure tourism, Simon visits breakaway states & unrecognized nations which don't usually feature on the tourist trail: Somaliland, Transniestria, South Ossetia, Taiwan, Abkhazia, Ajaria and Nagorno-Karabkh.

In this series, Simon Reeve is taught to fish by the President of Moldova, becomes an unofficial Somali diplomat, and finds himself crammed into a lift with the President of Georgia.
He visits a little-known country stuck in a Soviet-era time-warp, and a mountainous state which claims to have the highest rate of longevity on the planet. Simon also discovers abandoned missiles capable of destroying skyscrapers, al Qaeda terrorists in an African jail and the mass graves of children killed by soldiers.
Simon meets a blonde popstar who's a crackshot with an AK-47, a mournful guitarist, and a Taiwanese boy band. He climbs the world's tallest building, visits the site of the battle in Black Hawk Down, is electrocuted in Mogadishu, finds 5,000 year old rock paintings, buys himself a new Somali passport from a man called Mr Big Beard, and is held as a spy by the Transniestrian KGB.
Snake blood is on the menu in Asia, rock-hard yoghurt in the Caucuses, camel milk in Africa and two bottles of cognac when Simon is forced to celebrate independence with a Communist politician.
He meets a villager who sold a kidney to buy a cow, and children forced to live in freezing railway carriages. Amid the minefields of Nagorno-Karabkh, Simon is pelted with snowballs by refugee children. But in the sweltering heat of Mogadishu he needs a dozen armed gunmen just to stay alive.

2 -Trans-Dniester
Simon Reeve travels to Moldova where he goes on a drunken fishing trip with the president, before meeting a village so poor that 32 men there sold their kidneys.
He then crosses over to the breakaway state of Trans-Dniester to find a region where Lenin statues still take pride of place and "independence day" is celebrated with a show of force by thousands of troops.
He also gets arrested for trying to film a secret Soviet base.

Watch the sun set and the evening sky as catching fish alone, sit around the campfire, meet the sunrise, hear the birds singing, wash your face in the morning dew... Take as many pictures of beautiful natural scenery which the Dniester Canyon is so rich in and see rare plants and animals, most of which are listed in the Red Data List.
It will be a good chance to meet Ukraine. Many Europeans know Russia, but Ukraine - is a different story, a different language, different customs and traditions. It is much more beautiful and colorful than how it's shaped to international tourists. Therefore, you do have to try to go to Ukraine and form an opinion about our Ukrainian independent state.
However, Ukraine's independence has brought a lot of political infightings. It is difficult to promote the country where there is a constant change in leadership floors for foreign tourists, and we understand it! Also, one should understand that perhaps political battles are an integral part of any young country. But we can change your opinion about Ukraine, you will fall in love with its natural beauty and we, in turn, will make every effort to make this journey memorable.

Here's a quiet little Ukrainian town in a loop of the Dniester. There's a rail bridge and a road bridge crossing the river. The Dniester rises in the Ukrainian Carpathians and flows south to the Black Sea. 1380km in length, once river traffic was more common. Between 1918 and 1939 Zaleszczyki was in Poland. Here was the border to Rumania. and before that the town was part of the Austro Hungarian province of Galicia. There was an army barracks here. Czernowitz, The Vienna of the East, is just down the road on another big river, The Prut.

LEAD-IN:
Moldova's breakaway Trans-Dniester region will press ahead with its hope of joining Russia after voters overwhelmingly backed the region's split from Moldova in a referendum that was ignored by the West and greeted cautiously on Monday by the Kremlin.
The Trans-Dniester Central Election Commission, said that 97.1 percent of voters cast ballots in favour of continuing the region's 16-year-old de-facto independence with the ultimate goal of union with Moscow.
Only 2.3 percent voted against. The remaining percentage of ballots were invalid.
Critics warned that the referendum, which was not recognised by Moldova, the European Union or the United States, could inspire pro-Russian
separatists in other ex-Soviet republics.

The Dniester (
/ˈniːstər/ NEES-tər;Romanian: Nistru, Ukrainian: Дністе́р translit. Dnister; Russian: Днестр) is a river in Eastern Europe. It runs through Ukraine and Moldova and separates most of Moldova's territory from the breakaway territory of Transnistria.
The name Dniester derives from Iranic Sarmatian Dānu nazdya "the close river." The Dnieper River also derives from the same Sarmatian Iranic meaning, "the river on the far side.") The older name, Tyras, is from Scythian tūra, meaning "rapid." The names of the Don and Danube are also from the same Proto Indo-European word *dānu - river.
In Russian, it is known as Днестр, translit. Dnestr, in Yiddish: Nester נעסטער; in Turkish, Turla and during antiquity, it was called Tyras in Latin and Danastris in Greek. Classical authors have also referred to it as Danaster.
The Dniester rises in Ukraine, near the city of Drohobych, close to the border with Poland, and flows toward the Black Sea. Its course marks part of the border of Ukraine and Moldova, after which it flows through Moldova for 398 kilometres (247 mi), separating the bulk of Moldova's territory from Transnistria. It later forms an additional part of the Moldova-Ukraine border, then flows through Ukraine to the Black Sea, where its estuary forms the Dniester Liman.

The Dniester rises in the Ukrainian Carpathians and flows south to the Black Sea. 1380km in length, once river traffic was more common. Between 1918 and 1939 Zaleszczyki was in Poland. Here was the border to Rumania. and before that the town was part of the Austro Hungarian province of Galicia. There was an army barracks here. Czernowitz, The Vienna of the East, is just down the road on another big river, The Prut. -

Simon meets a blonde popstar who's a crackshot with an AK-47, a mournful guitarist, and a Taiwanese boy band. He climbs the world's tallest building, visits the site of the battle in Black Hawk Down, is electrocuted in Mogadishu, finds 5,000 year old rock paintings, buys himself a new Somali passport from a man called Mr Big Beard, and is held as a spy by the Transniestrian KGB.
Snake blood is on the menu in Asia, rock-hard yoghurt in the Caucuses, camel milk in Africa and two bottles of cognac when Simon is forced to celebrate independence with a Communist politician.
He meets a villager who sold a kidney to buy a cow, and children forced to live in freezing railway carriages. Amid the minefields of Nagorno-Karabkh, Simon is pelted with snowballs by refugee children. But in the sweltering heat of Mogadishu he needs a dozen armed gunmen just to stay alive.

Here's a quiet little Ukrainian town in a loop of the Dniester. There's a rail bridge and a road bridge crossing the river. The Dniester rises in the Ukrainian Carpathians and flows south to the Black Sea. 1380km in length, once river traffic was more common. Between 1918 and 1939 Zaleszczyki was in Poland. Here was the border to Rumania. and before that the town was part of the Austro Hungarian province of Galicia. There was an army barracks here. Czernowitz, The Vienna of the East, is just down the road on another big river, The Prut.

Moldova's breakaway Trans-Dniester region will press ahead with its hope of joining Russia after voters overwhelmingly backed the region's split from Moldova in a referendum that was ignored by the West and greeted cautiously on Monday by the Kremlin.
The Trans-Dniester Central Election Commission, said that 97.1 percent of voters cast ballots in favour of continuing the region's 16-year-old de-facto independence with the ultimate goal of union with Moscow.
Only 2.3 percent voted against. The remaining percentage of ballots were invalid.
Critics warned that the referendum, which was not recognised by Moldova, the European Union or the United States, could inspire pro-Russian
separatists in other ex-Soviet republics.

He meets a villager who sold a kidney to buy a cow, and children forced to live in freezing railway carriages. Amid the minefields of Nagorno-Karabkh, Simon is pelted with snowballs by refugee children. But in the sweltering heat of Mogadishu he needs a dozen armed gunmen just to stay alive.

Ossetians (Republic of Ossetia-Alania in the north Caucasus) are descendents of western Sarmatian tribes and still speak Iranic language there. Jasses (Jazygs) got assimilated by Hungarians and lost their Iranic tongue. The usage of "h" instead of "g" in Ukrainian is also Scytho-Sarmatian remnant. The city of Jassy (Jass Market) in Romania comes from Jasses (Jazygs), a big Sarmatian tribe. Even name Scotland comes from Scyths, as legend says Scots migrated from Scythia, that is Ukraine. King Artur was Sarmatian too. Sarmatian Alans invaded much of western Europe, many settled in France, Spain, Mediterenian islands.
Dozens of Ukrainian placenames and river names are Scytho-Sarmatian (Iranic) such as: Dnieper, Don, Donuzav, Dunay (Danube), Donets all come from Scytho-Sarmatian-Ossetic (iranic) word Don (water), so are other Iranic placenames in Ukraine as: Artopolot (Art was a zoroastrian deity), Sachky, Saky (= Scythians), Prut (= river), Zarvanytsya (Zarwan was a Zoroastrian deity) Samara and so on. Ukrainian last name Dryha (Dryhy were poor zoroastrians, fire worshippers), Kurys (popular among Ukrainian Lemkos, highlanders) is also Iranic (same as Kurush in Persian, that is Cyrus, Iranic name, also Persian king).
Elements of Scytho-Sarmatian warrior & social culture got preserved also by Circassians (Adyghes) (who still have warrior women) and Ukrainian cossacks. It seems that Circassians absorbed some Sarmatians or adopted Sarmatian culture from being under their lordship. Both Circassians and Ukrainian Cossacks wear red boots, red coats, colour red was colour of the fire (ancient Iranic tribes worshipped fire), princely colour (onluy princes wore red coats). Color distinguished one person among others. White hats for example were worn by Ukrainian Cossack and Circassians otamans (chiefs).
