Forty firefighters battle Malaga factory fire

Date

Adrian Beattie

Forty firefighters rushed to tackle a factory fire in Malaga on Saturday morning.

The blaze broke out at the Tilt Up Construction unit on Vale Street around 4.45am.

The building collapsed in the fire and fire crews were unable to get inside.

"The integrity of the building was destroyed by the time firefighters arrived. The walls collapsed inwards," a spokesman for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said.

It's not known what caused the fire and investigators won't be able to examine the scene until structural engineers have declared area safe to enter.

One firefighter was taken to hospital after twisting his knee while tackling the fire.
