Hundreds of people representing more than sixty anti-eviction groups from across Taiwan took to Ketagalan Boulevard in Taipei today in protest against what they call unfair evictions and displacements by the government. Placards read "No to Amending Civil Law 972", and a baby face with "Made in Daddy and Mommy". 972 is Taiwan's civil law that defines marriage as between a man and a woman, and the people were gathering to reject a recent bill to delete the reference to "man and woman" in this law.
Over 550,000 Taiwan people already signed the petition to oppose same-sex marriage and "alternative families" bill, the latter of which even opens up civil households for any combination of people.

(10 Dec 2016) Thousands gathered in Taipei on Saturday to urge Taiwan's parliament to legalise same-sex marriage.
Organisers estimated around 250,000 people were present in Ketagalan Boulevard, carrying placards, waving flags and chanting slogans.
They were urging lawmakers to pass an amendment of Article 972 of the Civil Law, which would allow homosexual people to legally marry.
Protesters said they were fighting for equal rights for all in Taiwan, without any discrimination.
Both the ruling and major opposition parties support legalisation of same-sex marriage, as do a majority of the public along with President Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan's first female head of state.
Taiwan would join Canada, Colombia, Ireland, the United States and 16 other countries that have legalised same-sex marriage.
But it would be a notable exception in Asia and the Middle East where many countries still ban rights for homosexual people.
Gays and lesbians in Taiwan have formed an effective lobby in recent years, with an annual Gay Pride march in Taipei last month drawing tens of thousands.

Anti-nuclear protestors awoke this morning on Ketagalan Boulevard. After some light exercises, they gathered to present a huge anti-nuclear flag covered in signatures. Ko Yi-cheng, a film director and leader of the protest, pledged more demonstrations will continue every Friday evening at nearby Liberty Square. Today was the second day of anti-nuclear protest which saw many people spending the night on Ketagalan Boulevard. Many of these protestors awoke this morning eager to continue the anti-nuclear campaign.The spirits of anti-nuclear protestors were quite high today as they displayed a huge anti-nuclear flag which was signed by many people. Ketagalan people
Ketagalan or Ketangalan (Chinese: 凱達格蘭族; pinyin: Kǎidágélán Zú) are a Taiwanese aboriginal tribe originating in what is now the Taipei Basin. Their language has now become extinct.
On March 21, 1996, the road in front of the Presidential Building was renamed from "Long Live Chiang Kai-shek" Road (介壽路) to Ketagalan Boulevard (凱達格蘭大道) by then-mayor of Taipei City, Chen Shui-bian, to commemorate this tribe. Traffic signs banning motorcycles and bicycles from that road were abolished at the same time.
Beitou District in Taipei City houses the Ketagalan Culture Center, a cultural center about the Ketagalan people.
Folklore
Legend has it that the Ketagalan forebears originally lived on another island. One day, a monster appeared on the island. Every night it would appear in the village, terrorizing the villagers. Accordingly, the villagers laid traps for the monster all around their homes and fields. The wounded monster was forced back into the mountains and the village was peaceful again for a while, but soon afterward it reappeared. Pushed to insanity by hunger, the monster went into one of the village homes and killed a child. The villagers lived in fear of being eaten and did not dare to sleep. The villagers fiercely debated but nobody could think of a way to deal with the monster.

Ketagalan Boulevard
Ketagalan Boulevard (Chinese: 凱達格蘭大道; pinyin: Kǎidágélán Dàdào) is an arterial road in Zhongzheng District in Taipei, Taiwan, between the Presidential Building and the East Gate (東門). It is 400 metres (1,300 ft) long and has a total of ten lanes in both directions with no median.
History
The former name of this street is Chieh-shou Road (traditional Chinese: 介壽路; simplified Chinese: 介寿路; pinyin: Jièshòu Lù; Wade–Giles: Chieh-shou lu), Chieh-shou (介壽) meaning "Long live Chiang Kai-shek". On May 19, 1989 a pro-democracy activist named Chan I-hua performed self-immolation to protest the blocking of funeral procession of fellow activist Cheng Nan-jung. On 21 March 1996, when Chen Shui-bian was the mayor of Taipei, Chieh-shou Road was renamed Ketagalan Boulevard and the surrounding square was renamed Ketagalan Square in honor of the Ketagalan Taiwanese aborigines originally living in the Taipei area. However, Ketagalan Boulevard has been given other levels of political meaning and has even become the protesting holy land of opposing political parties.

Over 550,000 Taiwan people already signed the petition to oppose same-sex marriage and "alternative families" bill, the latter of which even opens up civil households for any combination of people.

(10 Dec 2016) Thousands gathered in Taipei on Saturday to urge Taiwan's parliament to legalise same-sex marriage.
Organisers estimated around 250,000 people were present in Ketagalan Boulevard, carrying placards, waving flags and chanting slogans.
They were urging lawmakers to pass an amendment of Article 972 of the Civil Law, which would allow homosexual people to legally marry.
Protesters said they were fighting for equal rights for all in Taiwan, without any discrimination.
Both the ruling and major opposition parties support legalisation of same-sex marriage, as do a majority of the public along with President Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan's first female head of state.
Taiwan would join Canada, Colombia, Ireland, the United States and 16 other countries that have legalised same-sex marriage.
But it would be a notable exception in Asia and the Middle East where many countries still ban rights for homosexual people.
Gays and lesbians in Taiwan have formed an effective lobby in recent years, with an annual Gay Pride march in Taipei last month drawing tens of thousands.

Young people are leaving counties like Yunlin and Chiayi to look for jobs in Taipei or Kaohsiung. Isn’t it more important to bring in investments first, like building 六輕? Or try to apply for 直轄市 status for Yunlin to get more central government money?
