Again, why is Colombia better off and safer and why is Venezuela getting worse off and more violent and more destructive? Drugs, crime, mafias and corruption. Colombia is doing a historic job of turning that around, Venezuela is going in the wrong direction. The way you get out of this is you make decisions about what's going to happen in your own country that stand for the rule of law and you cooperate with people you need to work with you in the multi-national community to stop this transnational threat. Walters leaving news conference STORYLINE United States Drug Tzar John Walters warned on Thursday that the battle against drug cartels in Mexico will be long and could result in further loss of life. Walters spoke during a news conference in Colombia's capital of Bogota, where he was on an official visit. He highlighted the efforts of Mexican president Felipe Calderon in the fight against drug trafficking while expressing his government's wishes for a "peaceful and friendly" relationship with all Latin American countries. When asked about Venezuela and Bolivia, two countries that Washington has clashed with in the battle against drugs, Walters said his government was continuing to work in developing constructive relationships with these nations. But he said that it was ultimately up to their governments to cooperate with Washington in the battle against drugs. Venezuela ended its cooperation with the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in 2005. US authorities have said the transportation of Colombian cocaine through Venezuelan territory has quadrupled since 2004 to reach 282 tonnes annually. Walters laid part of the blame on Venezuela for refusing to cooperate with the US - which he said only created high levels of violence, kidnapping and crime in the Latin American country. Walters said Venezuela must stand for the rule of law and cooperate with the multi-national community to stop the transnational threat. In the present, Colombia is facing an important conjuncture, largely shaped by the peace negotiation, taking place between the government and the FARC-EP (and most recently the ELN). The current moment is a dispute over the meaning of the past, present and future of Colombia, with hemispheric implications, that includes a discussion about the type of society that each actor imagines. Consequently, the actual moment is defined by a series of political, cultural and ontological struggles locally and regionally. While political, economical, and cultural elites seem resistant to pursuing significant changes beyond the demobilization of the guerrillas and small reforms to the system; civil society, social movements (indigenous, afro-descendants, and peasants in particular), intellectuals, and some politicians are yearning for a historical moment that challenges the unequal social arrangements of Colombian society. A group of representatives from diverse perspectives will present their views, and later, to engage in a productive and informed discussion with faculty and graduate students in order to develop a program in which academic institutions are able to help to a ‘road map’ towards peace and reconciliation in Colombia. Spanish/Nat The Colombian economy reacted nervously to the result of the first round of the presidential elections. Interest rates have reached unprecedented levels, and many analysts are warning the economy is at a critical stage. Colombia's central bank has already had to intervene to prevent a massive devaluation of the peso. Days after the results of the Colombian presidential elections, the country's business leaders recommended stringent reforms to the economy. Colombia's two leading presidential candidates have promised to make economic stability a key priority if they come to power. Last Sunday, Horacio Serpa of the governing Liberal Party was just ahead of Conservative candidate Andres Pastrana, a former Bogota mayor in the first round of voting. Economists want the next president to wipe out the country's foreign lending requirement and to extend time limits on payments of foreign credit. This, they say will help the current financial crisis. In the last five days interest rates have shot up to new highs. The Central Bank's lending rate is now over 62 per cent . Guillermo Fino, Director of Colombia's Tax Office, said however that it was normal for markets to be volatile during elections. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "When there is a change of government there are speculators - these speculations generate worries in investors and within the market - and this has generated strong effects - there are those who are thinking of investing - some candidates are saying they are going to change some economic things - such as taxes - one can end up stopping your possibility of imports or possibilities of investments - waiting to see what is going to happen. This normally is the case during election time - there is a clear effect during the whole electoral period - in direct relation with speculative investments." SUPER CAPTION: Guillermo Fino, Director of Colombia's Tax Office Most business leaders had pinned their hopes on a Pastrana victory. The Conservative candidate is widely regarded as being pro-market forces. Serpa has followed a more populist approach to economic policy, and throughout his campaign promised workers large pay increases. This, analysts warn, will lead to higher inflation and taxes. Jaime Alberto Cabal, who is president of the National Board of Trade said that the Colombian economy could become too restricted. He recommended new measures. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "We think that a devaluation - a strong devaluation - would be counter-productive to the Colombian economy and would destabilise all the economic indicators in the country. Because of this, although we recognise we are moving in the right direction, we think it is time to bring in complimentary measures to avoid the economy choking itself in its need for liquid resources, that is happening because of excessively height interest levels." President Park Geun-hye is in Colombia on the first leg of her four nation tour of South America. On Friday, local time,... the Korean leader held summit talks with her Colombian counterpart. Topping their agenda was boosting ties in the e-commerce, energy and infrastructure sectors, as well at the implementation of their bilateral free trade deal. Choi You-sun reports. Extending their first summit talks by half-an-hour, President Park Geun-hye and Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos talked extensively about how to strengthen and diversify their economic cooperation. A total of 18 new deals were signed on Friday. Some of the deals will systematically match up the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency with Korean home shopping and distribution companies, as well as the Colombian e-commerce association, to help Korean SMEs launch their business in South America. By sharing its e-commerce know-how and technologies, Korea expects to meet the growing demand for e-commerce in the region and increase related exports to three billion U.S. dollars in five years. One of Bogota′s modernization initiatives is a one billion dollar project on electric buses. Following pilot projects with Colombia, Korea hopes to export its electric battery leasing and wireless charging systems that can reduce battery costs and charging time. Korea and Colombia have also agreed to work together in smart grid technology and railway construction and management. An implementation of their bilateral free trade pact was also something the two leaders hoped would happen soon. It′s expected to increase Korean exports to Colombia by nearly two billion dollars in 10 years, and create more than two-thousand jobs over the same period. On its final day, leaders vowed to fight for access to the global economic markets dominated by the rich nations. Its host city, Cartagena has been described as an example of everything the movement is fighting against: poverty and social inequality. The resort-city of Cartagena in Colombia has played host to more than 50 leaders attending the summit of the Non-Aligned Movement. The small city is one of Colombia's main ports and its economy depends mostly on tourism. The summit was seen as an opportunity to boost the local economy and as an international platform to address global economic issues. But many Colombians have mixed feelings about the whole summit. SOUNDBITE: (In Spanish) "Poor countries need this summit. I think it's good because it's productive for themselves as well as for us here in Colombia." SUPER CAPTION: Vox pop, woman SOUNDBITE: (In Spanish) "For us it's been a fraud because we need jobs and some people have been laid off work because of this meeting and therefore our economy goes down. They should be more careful, take care of those who've come but they should also let Colombians work." SUPER CAPTION: Vox pop, men With the end of the Cold War the Non-Aligned Movement is trying to redefine its role in the international community. Non-aligned nations are now fighting for access to global markets. Nicaraguan President Violeta Chamorro called on the movement to focus on social and economic development. SOUNDBITE: (In Spanish) "Security is now the right to develop and the improvement of our abilities to overcome a past history of adverse social and economic situations. This new model of security must be built by the non-aligned nations." SUPER CAPTION: Violeta Chamorro, President of Nicaragua As the host of the Non-Aligned Summit, Cartagena also represents an example of what the movement is fighting for: social equality. In Colombia almost a half (m) million people are unemployed, and almost four (m) million are living at poverty levels. The contrast between the rich and the poor is clearly visible throughout Cartagena. While more than half of the population lives under harsh economic conditions others have accumulated excessive quantities of wealth. The summit of the Non-Aligned Movement closed with a final declaration by member countries to demand access to the global markets. And many in Colombia hope this will be the chance to finally fight social inequality at home. Colombian Flower Workers: Health and Safety

Colombia is the second largest flower exporter, after the Netherlands, with $1.245 billion in flower exports last year. The majority of these exports are destined for the United States. 65% of workers in the Colombian flower industry are female. They suffer from poor health and safety standards, low wages, and repression of any attempt to organize. Most of these women are heads of household who have to leave their children alone during their long work days. The children are severely affected, their dreams frustrated. Colombia is notorious for worker rights violations, with more trade unionists murdered in Colombia every year than any other country in the world. The Colombian government has promised to respect workers' rights as a condition for entering into a new Free Trade Agreement with the U.S., passed by the U.S. Congress in October 2011. It signed a Labor Action Plan in April 2011 that addressed violence and impunity and recognized that the flower sector requires special attention to ensure compliance with the law and respect for worker rights. Although workers' rights advocates and unions consider the Plan inadequate, the Colombian government should achieve the objectives of the Plan before the Obama Administration implements the Free Trade Agreement with Colombia. One major source of violations in the flower sector are employers who evade the legally-required benefits and basic rights by treating permanent employees as short-term workers, using a variety of practices including subcontractors, temporary agencies, and "cooperatives." Under the Labor Action Plan, the Colombian government agreed to hire hundreds of more labor inspectors and reform its laws and practices to address this problem. The flower sector is only one of many sectors where worker rights are violated. Felix Ochoa Cabrera gave a press conference in the Colombian capital on Friday in which he refuted his wife's testimony. His comments supported Castro's allegations that the woman in question, Elizabeth Trujillo, had lied when she said the Cuban president had been admitted to a Havana clinic in October last year for a dangerous brain disease. The Cuban leader Fidel Castro seemed his usual energetic self on Friday in Jamaica. There was no sign of the alleged mental illness which had supposedly seen him hospitalised and in a coma. In an interview from Costa Rica last week, Elizabeth Trujillo, 34, told the El Nuevo Herald - the Spanish-language newspaper published by The Miami Herald - that she was present at a Havana hospital on October 22 when Castro was rushed there with symptoms of hypertensive encephalopathy, a rise in blood pressure that often leads to stroke. The condition paralyzes brain functions and can lead to death in severe cases. But Trujillo's estranged husband Felix Ochoa Cabrera, who is himself a surgeon, told reporters his ex-wife was not a doctor but rather a secretary who lied when she said Castro suffered from the potentially fatal disease. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "I have know Mrs. Elizabeth Trujillo as we had a matrimonial relation for approximately one year which ends this August when we will be divorcing. At no time during the time I have known her has she been a person graduated from a school of medicine. She is therefore not a doctor." .......cutaway......I think that this idea was an idea that was not well thought out, well, very badly thought out indeed. We haven't even found out a reason for her doing this, I mean, she had nothing to do with medicine. She had never worked in this clinic and therefore did not have the necessary knowledge to carry out the functions she professed to have done. Question: Do you think she was lying? Answer: Well, the point is that if she cannot prove what she has been saying, if she cannot provide concrete proof for these claims then her words are untrue." In its initial report on July 19, the newspaper said it had confirmed Trujillo's identity through documents and multiple sources. The Cartagena urban area is also the fifth-largest urban area in the country. Economic activities include maritime and petrochemicals industry, as well as tourism. The city was founded on June 1, 1533, and named after Cartagena, Spain. However, settlement in this region around Cartagena Bay by various indigenous people dates back to 4000 BC. During the colonial period Cartagena served a key role in administration and expansion of the Spanish empire. It was a center of political and economic activity due to the presence of royalty and wealthy viceroys. Cartagena is the city most associated with pirates in the Caribbean, and the world. In 1984 Cartagena's colonial walled city and fortress were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. History Cartagena ============= Pre-Columbian era: 4000 BC -- 1500 AD The Puerto Hormiga Culture, found in the Caribbean coast region, particularly in the area from the Sinú River Delta to the Cartagena Bay, appears to be the first documented human community in what is now Colombia. Archaeologists estimate that around 4000 BC, the formative culture was located near the boundary between the present-day departments of Bolívar and Sucre. In this area, archaeologists have found the most ancient ceramic objects of the Americas, dating from around 4000 BC. The primary reason for the proliferation of primitive societies in this area is thought to have been the relative mildness of climate and the abundance of wildlife, which allowed the hunting inhabitants a comfortable life.[2][3][4] Archaeological investigations date the decline of the Puerto Hormiga culture and its related settlements to around 3000 BC. The rise of a much more developed culture, the Monsú, who lived at the end of the Dique Canal near today's Cartagena neighborhoods Pasacaballos and Ciénaga Honda at the northernmost part of Barú Island, has been hypothesized. The Monsú culture appears to have inherited the Puerto Hormiga culture's use of the art of pottery and also to have developed a mixed economy of agriculture and basic manufacture. The Monsú people's diet was based mostly on shellfish and fresh and salt-water fish.[5] The development of the Sinú society in what is today the departments of Córdoba and Sucre, eclipsed these first developments around the Cartagena Bay area. Until the Spanish colonization, many cultures derived from the Karib, Malibu and Arawak language families lived along the Colombian Caribbean coast. In the late pre-Columbian era, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta was home to the Tayrona people, whose language was closely related to the Chibcha language family.[6][7] Around 1500 the area was inhabited by different tribes of the Karib language family, more precisely the Mocanae sub-family, including: In the downtown island: Kalamarí Tribe In the Tierrabomba island: Carex Tribe In the Barú island, then peninsula: Bahaire Tribe In the eastern coast of the exterior bay: Cospique Tribe In the suburban area of Turbaco: Yurbaco Tribe Some subsidiary tribes of the Kalamari lived in today's neighborhood of Pie de la Popa, and other subsidiaries from the Cospique lived in the Membrillal and Pasacaballos areas. Among these, according to the earliest documents available, the Kalamari had preeminence. It is located 200 Kilometres east of Nicaragua. San Andres and Providence belong to Colombia and are located in Colombian waters. San Andrés is a tourist destination but not as slick and modern as others in the Caribbean. The island specializes in all-inclusive budget vacations that cater towards Colombian tourists. Outside of the downtown area there is a rural feeling, with small houses close to the main circle road, small sidewalks with some areas without any sidewalks at all, and many people hanging out on the streets, even at night. The people are extremely friendly and generally speaking the island is safe. The sea surrounding the area is known by Colombians as the "Mar de siete colores" (seven-coloured sea), due to the variations of depth. To fully appreciate this, it is needed to go to the highest place in the island, around 70 meters high. Any locals will give directions to that precise spot, which is a normal stop for the island tours. The neighboring island of Providencia, accessible by flights or a 2.5 hour boat journey, is less developed and more peaceful. Get in There are flights from Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Cartagena and Panama City, as well as charter flights from Canada (via Air Transat). Colombian customs need to be cleared upon arrival to the island. Check with your local travel agency to see what documents you need to travel to Colombia. For many passengers, a tourist card has to be presented on arrival. Airlines flying to San Andrés sell them on the counter for the official price of 25 USD. If arriving from outside Colombia, exchange currency at the airport, the rates are similar as downtown if not better. Any foreign exchange in Colombia is very formal and a passport is required and a big official receipt handed with the passport details on it, before returning local currency. Do in San Andres Island, Colombia ===================== The beaches are very nice. All are open to the public, but the hotels outside of the downtown area have direct access to a number of them.

The frontlines of Peru’s war on cocaine are restricted to remote coca-producing basins, where drug laboratories and illegal landing strips are abundant. But the government’s campaign of crop eradication and efforts to destroy narco runways risk further igniting a larger social conflict, alienating the coca farmers whose livelihoods depend on growing the illicit crop. VICE News traveled to the heart of Peru’s coca-producing region to witness how the government is waging a war on drugs with the aim of putting an early end to its reign as the world’s new king of cocaine. The Peruvian government is trying to crack down on the problem by ramping up eradication of coca plants, and devoting military and police resources to interdiction efforts. Despite the response — and a hefty amount of foreign aid devoted to combatting cocaine production — Peruvian coke is being consumed in the nightclubs of Lima and in cities around the world like never before. VICE News travels to Peru to learn more about the government’s battle plan against cocaine, and to see how nearly every aspect of Peruvian society is caught up in the fight. Pemex estimates that it loses $5 billion annually in stolen oil, some of which ends up being sold over the border in US gas stations. As police fight the thieves, and the cartels fight each other, the number of victims caught in the battle for the pipelines continues to climb. An 11-year-old Colombian girl was in critical condition after her father forced her to swallow more than 100 cocaine-filled capsules to smuggle drugs into Europe. The father of the girl allegedly forced her to swallow about half a kilogram of cocaine sealed in 104 capsules, the Guardian reported. The girl’s parents took her to the hospital on Sunday after she complained of abdominal pain. She was in critical condition after doctors removed the capsules from her body, the Guardian reported. Police then searched the father’s home and found passports and plane tickets, revealing that the girl was set to travel with her father to Madrid via Bogota on Wednesday, reported by the Guardian. Cartagena de Indias was founded in 1535 by Pedro de Heredia as Cartagena del Poniente. When Cartagena declared its independence from Spain on November 11th 1811 it retained the name given to the town after the area of Cartagena de Levante, whose bay is similar to the Colombian coast of Cartagena. The area was originally inhabited by the indigenous people of the Karib tribe (that’s why we call them Caribbean) during the pre-colonial era, but after the arrival of Christopher Columbus and the subsequent foundation of a town Cartagena de Indias became one of the most important ports in all America. The privileged location on the Colombian Atlantic coast gave the Spanish people an enormous commercial power over the northern and southern continental area without a great effort. At that time it was also the perfect destination to visit exotic places and thus Cartagena de Indias became the settlement of high-ranking military and ecclesiastic authorities, along with representatives of the Spanish Crown who made Cartagena the capitol of the Nuevo Reino de Granada. Due to its wealth Cartagena was also the scene of countless conflicts. Not only Spain but also England and France wanted to get control of the city for economic interests. This led to construction of a strong fortress and the acquisition of weaponry to defend this coveted region. At the beginning it started as coastal defense but soon thereafter a big wall surrounded the whole city with a garrison inside. Today, this part of the town is known as the historic center, the Walled City and Ciudad Amurallada. Despite its strong fortification Cartagena de Indias was assaulted many times by pirates and troops from England, Holland as well as France; however without success. Eventually, a rebellion broke out which led to the inevitable independence in 1811. When Pablo Morullo tried to get Cartagena back for the Spanish Crown four years later by means of a naval and terrestrial siege, he failed terribly thanks to the heroic resistance propelled by the will for independence. After the constitution as a republic Cartagena experienced a period of economic weakening as its independence caused the cease of trade relations. However, along with the arrival of the new century of 1900 and major advances in terms of industrialization, overall economy, politics and culture Cartagena gradually regained the prosperity and importance as a strategic point of trade. By today Cartagena de Indias has become a destination for everyone declared a tourist and cultural district in 1991.

Medellin Colombia The city is situated in a beautiful valley, offering mountain views from every angle. Combine the natural setting with Spring-like temperatures year round, Medellin offers a very comfortable climate both day and night. Nightlife in Medellin is a big draw among younger travelers, as paisas love to dance, drink, and party. The women are reputed to be the most beautiful in Colombia, if not all of South America, and that reputation alone continues to attract more and more male travelers. Most foreigners know little about Medellin other than it was the former home and stomping grounds of Pablo Escobar, and therefore once listed as the most dangerous city in the world. In the last few years, several companies have set up organized tours to cater to the tourist-demand for information on this tragic chapter in the city's history. Best Things to See and Do Medellin is home to Colombia's most famous artist, Fernando Botero. In the city center, you can walk through Botero Plaza and get your picture taken amongst a few dozen of his large metal sculptures. The plaza also features the Museo de Antioquia which features some of Botero's paintings, as well as other Latin artists. One of the reasons Medellin is a popular place for expats to live in Colombia is the metro system. Medellin features Colombia's only metro train. From the main train line that runs North/South through the city, are several cable cars (like ski gondolas) that run up the mountains to poorer neighborhoods. These cable cars are meant to give residents easier access to the city, however they also offer a cheap and fun way to get panoramic views of the entire city. If you prefer adrenaline-pumping activities, paragliding is available for as little as $45 per 25-minute flight. Where to Eat in Medellin For a taste of the local cuisine, head to Mondongo's where you can try the mondongo (tripe) soup. Mexican food is often done well, and I'm a fan of 1910 Revolucion Mexicana for the stylish decor as much as the food. And if you're craving excellent creole or north Brazilian food, head to Bonuar, which is adjacent the Modern Art Museum, and features live Blues during the week. Where to Drink and Dance While the bars and discotecas around Parque Lleras are always busy on the weekends, there are many more places to party with locals than the Zona Rosa. A paisa favorite is the raucous Dulce Jesus Mio, which is decorated like a mock Antioquian pueblo. Workers dress up as caricatures of typical townspeople. Get there early (9 pm), and ensure you have at least one girl with you, to get a table. For some of the city's best live salsa music, head downtown to El Eslabon Prendido on a Tuesday night (around 9:30 pm if you want a table). If you actually want room to dance, then go to the upscale Cien Fuegos, which features the biggest dance floor in town. Best Area for a Night on the Town Parque Lleras is the most accessible — you can just walk around until you find a bar or discoteca that looks like fun. Or, hop a cab to nearby Barrio Colombia and you'll have a dozen different discotecas to choose from, all within a few square blocks. And you'll see fewer foreigners than in Parque Lleras. More adventurous visitors will go a bit further to La 33, or La 70, a five-block strip of salsa bars and clubs on the West side of the city. Getting Around Medellin Medellin is a large city, so while you'll be able to walk around within neighborhoods, you'll need public transport to get you around the city. Bus rides, which can be confusing at first, cost about 65 cents each, while a single ride on the metro will run you 85 cents. The metro is very easy to use, clean, and generally safe (there's security at every station and platform). Taxis are metered, and you can go from one end of the city to the other for $6-7. Events and Festivals In early July, Medellin hosts Colombia's annual salsa festival. The weekend event is a combination of salsa workshops, competitions, and at night, social dancing. As the fashion capital of Colombia, Medellin hosts Colombiamoda (fashion week) every July as well. The 3-day event is open to the public during the day (a pass costs about $40), while the runway shows are invite-only. La Feria de las Flores, the city's annual flower parade, runs from the last week of July through the first week of August. The weekends are busy with parades, including La Cabalgata horse parade, an antique car parade, and the flower parade. There are also lots of concerts and special events held during the 10-day celebrations.

It's hard to remember, on those cold days when you pile on your heavy coat and scarf, that there are places on the planet where the sun rarely stops shining. The Colombian city of Cartagena has skies so blue and cloudless that they look permanently polarised. It's a fine spot for a winter-dodging getaway, and it may surprise you to learn it's closer to New York City than San Francisco by a few hundred miles. But it's not just the weather -- Cartagena's colourful colonial history and dramatic setting in South America on the shores of the Caribbean have started to attract savvy international travellers, but for now, it's still just on the right side of undiscovered. You'll still find a breezy, laidback ambience; inside the old walled city, tourists and locals alike explore historic buildings at a gentle flip-flopped pace. Yet despite the city's colonial roots, this is no museum, either -- it's a living, breathing place. Seafood restaurants where the dress code is beachwear? Check. Cool DJ bars atop ancient fortresses? Check. Authentic salsa joints, with bands playing like they won't get paid unless the crowd dances? Check. From its history, to its food and nightlife, to its beaches, Cartagena's got it all. Love at first site Step through La Puerta Del Reloj, a clock tower passageway through Las Murallas, the 400-year stone walls that surround the city, and you arrive at Cartagena's historic heart, the Old Town. The narrow and winding streets, with their bougainvillea-strewn, pastel-painted balconies, create a glorious sense of suspended time. Grab a cooling agua de coco (coconut water) from any one of a hundred strolling vendors if the heat gets too much, and simply stroll the shaded narrow streets. Cartagena was founded in 1533 by Spanish explorer and gold plunderer Pedro De Heredia, and the town soon became the storehouse for all the gold and other resources the conquerors stole from the continent. This made it an attractive prospect for pirates, Buccaneers and other thieves, and it was to fend off their advances that the town's impressive fortified walls were built in the 17th century. In this vein, the impressive Castillo San Felipe De Barajas overlooks the city and is considered by some to be the most impregnable fort the Spanish ever built. In Plaza De Los Coches, you can take a horse-and-carriage sightseeing tour to delve into the history of this triangular plaza lined with old balconied houses and colonial arches. Just around the corner, you'll find the 17th century Iglesia de San Pedro Claver, one of the city's many monumental, ornately baroque churches. Church visits anywhere in town are a must -- especially at sundown when the doors open to the faithful for an evening service or wedding. Plaza de Bolivar is a stunningly beautiful and compact square ringed with trees and two of the town's best museums and colonial houses. Here you'll find The Gold Museum, displaying hundreds of pre-Colombian artefacts, while just across the plaza there's the Palacio de la Inquisición, a good example of late colonial architecture that today operates as a museum displaying Inquisitors' instruments of torture, pre-Columbian pottery and historical objects from both colonial and independence times. Nearby Plaza Santo Domingo is bordered by great restaurants and bars and a Botero sculpture, but for a smaller, quieter and less touristy option, check out Parque Fernadez De Madrid. Food and nightlife If you really want to escape the pastel-toned perfection and see how the locals live, swap your sandals for something sturdier and take a 10-minute taxi ride to Mercado Bazurto. Here, you'll find a chaotic local market with blaring music, raucous sales patter, charcoal-makers seemingly teleported in from the Middle Ages, and street food. For night-time action, Café Havana mixes the meanest mojitos in town, but the prize for best location goes to Café Del Mar, where you'll want to dress to impress as you sip your sundown cocktail atop the city walls, with Caribbean views and breezes. Meanwhile, salsa bar Donde Fidel has some of the best seats in town right on Portal De Los Dulces, a plaza overlooking a scene straight out of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's romantic novel, Love in the Time of Cholera. Here, locals sell grated coconut treats baked with panela, or baked raw cane sugar. Marquez fans can also take a literary tour of the town. Blissed-out beaches For beaches, the closest options are at Bocagrande, a mini Miami just a few kilometres southwest of the city centre. A better choice is Playa Blanca or Isla Barú, and while both are well-frequented tourist attractions, they offer crystalline waters and white sand. If you have some time -- plan on an excursion. You're just four hours away from sister city Santa Marta and the world-class beaches of Tayrona National Park, where the jungle edges up to a sea that's bordered by the snow-capped Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Ο Σάκης Τανιμανίδης και ο Γιώργος Μαυρίδης εξορμούν στην Κολομβία, όπου η μοίρα τούς επιφυλάσσει εκπλήξεις. Η δράση ξεκινά από την Μπογκοτά. Εκεί, ο Γιώργος γνωρίζει και διεκδικεί το άλλο του μισό. Για να σιγουρέψει όμως την επιτυχία του, παρασύρει τον Σάκη και δοκιμάζουν πρώτα ίσως το πιο ιδιαίτερο κούρεμα της ζωής τους… Στη συνέχεια, οι δύο ταξιδιώτες κάνουν βόλτα στη συνοικία Καντελάρια και αποφασίζουν να ροκάρουν ακόμη περισσότερο στην εκκλησία των Χεβιμεταλάδων συμμετέχοντας σε έναν εναλλακτικό εκκλησιασμό που θα θυμούνται για καιρό! Επόμενος προορισμός η Καρταχένα, μια πόλη που μαγεύει τον Σάκη και τον Γιώργο και τους οδηγεί να την εξερευνήσουν με τα πόδια, σοκάκι-σοκάκι.
