The dive was conducted at site 15577 -- a recently mapped but never-before seen shipwreck in the western Gulf of Mexico. The dive revealed the remnants of a copper-sheathed sailing ship, likely from the early to mid-19th century. While most of the wood has since disintegrated, the oxidized copper sheathing remained along with a variety of artifacts. Not only can lightning strike twice, but it can also strike the ocean. If you hear thunder get out of the water. If you are in a boat, get back to land. If you can't, stay low in the boat or in the cabin. http://oceantoday.noaa.gov/lightning/welcome.html

NARRATOR:
Lightning is a rapid discharge of electrical energy in the atmosphere.
Each spark can span over five miles in length, reach temperatures hotter than the surface of the sun and contain 100 million volts of electricity.
Lightning strikes are not only dangerous, they can be deadly.
The electrostatic discharge occurs within a cloud, between clouds, or between a cloud and the ground.
Lightning doesn't strike the ocean as much as land, but when it does, it spreads out over the water, which acts as a conductor. It can hit boats that are nearby, and electrocute fish that are near the surface.
If you're at the beach and hear thunder or see lightning, get out of the water. Get off the beach and take shelter in a building or in your car. If you're at sea, head back to a shelter on land. If you can't, either stay low in the boat or retreat to a cabin. Do not use electronic equipment during the storm.
Every year, millions of lightning flashes fill our skies. Each one has the potential to cause a devastating and shocking impact.

NOAA declares third-ever global coral bleaching event
As record ocean temperatures cause widespread coral bleaching across Hawaii, NOAA scientists confirm the same stressful conditions are expanding to the Caribbean and may last into the new year, prompting the declaration of the third global coral bleaching event ever on record.
Waters are warming in the Caribbean, threatening coral in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, NOAA scientists said. Coral bleaching began in the Florida Keys and South Florida in August, but now scientists expect bleaching conditions there to diminish. This bleaching event, which began in the north Pacific in summer 2014 and expanded to the south Pacific and Indian oceans in 2015, is hitting U.S. coral reefs disproportionately hard. NOAA estimates that by the end of 2015, almost 95 percent of U.S. coral reefs will have been exposed to ocean conditions that can cause corals to bleach.
The biggest risk right now is to the Hawaiian Islands, where bleaching is intensifying and is expected to continue for at least another month. Areas at risk in the Caribbean in coming weeks include Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, and from the U.S. Virgin Islands south into the Leeward and Windward islands.
The next concern is the further impact of the strong El Niño, which climate models indicates will cause bleaching in the Indian and southeastern Pacific Oceans after the new year. This may cause bleaching to spread globally again in 2016.

Exposed! NOAA Caught Altering Weather Data Ahead of UN Climate Change Meeting
www.undergroundworldnews.com
It has been suggested, with evidence, that NOAA has been a little less than forthcoming with temperature data this year ahead of all these big UN meetings addressing Agenda 21 and climate change. I’m sorry, did I say “a little less than forthcoming”? If this is true, I meant to say a bunch of big fat liars.
It has been announced that more than 190 countries are set to meet in Paris in December to see about a “new global agreement on climate change aimed at reducing global greenhouse gas emissions and thus avoiding the threat of dangerous climate change” since the current “commitments” on emissions run out in five years.
Also ignore any anomalies that could be caused by clandestine solar radiation management aka geoengineering (spraying of particulates to reduce incoming sunlight) as has been advocated in UN IPCC reports.
Check this out. This is data posted on the Real Science blog from NOAA.

McGuire was recently awarded a NOAA’s Marine Debris program grant to raise awareness about microplastics

McGuire awarded NOAA Grant to Raise Awareness About Microplastics in Florida Waters
Each time you wash your face or brush your teeth, you just may be adding microscopic bits of plastic into the aquatic environment. These tiny particles never biodegrade and are accidentally eaten by marine life, threatening their health. Toxins in the environment are attracted to and can easily adhere to their surface.
These tiny bits of plastic, smaller than the width of a pencil eraser, are causing a big problem and Maia McGuire, Florida Sea Grant agent with UF/IFAS Extension in St. Johns and Flagler counties, is proposing a solution.
McGuire was recently awarded a NOAA’s Marine Debris program grant to raise awareness about microplastics in the ocean by creating a statewide citizen science initiative.
As part of her awareness campaign, titled the Florida Microplastic Awareness Project, she will be training Floridians to take water samples to detect the amount of microplastics in coastal waters across the state. The data collected by volunteers will then be put into Google Maps to show the concentration of these particles visually.

It was an interesting Sunday morning. We got up, headed out for "breakfast", returned home and took out my new Great Planes Seawind RC model for a few flights that blustery morning. During my flights over Benton Lake, I heard the load sound of a low passing, multi-engined, turboprop behind me, just beyond the trees, hill and church. I could catch a quick glimpse, which told me that it wasn't one of our local C130's passing through, but a "stranger" to the normal flying traffic. After multiple, alternating passes of the turboprop, I brought my RC equipment home and exchanged it for my Canon VIXIA HFG30 camcorder.
I then proceeded east, down my local street for an unobstructed view and a chance to capture an image of the "stranger" and hopefully an "N" number.
Well, I was in luck. The aircraft made another pass within minutes and I grabbed a few seconds of footage, though the plane was back lit and any identifying markings were going to be tough to see. So, I waited some more time should the plane repeat the pass. Well, it did. Again and again. In fact, the passes were so low and so repeatable that I was able to situate myself for the optimal location on each pass.
Part of the challenge was lighting, as the back lit aircraft resolved poorly and I did not have a good view in relocating to the east of the aircraft's path. Another was it's combined speed and low altitude. The aircraft was quite the challenge to pan with at such ground speed and close ground proximity. If the NOAA's website information reflects on this Sunday morning's flights, the typical passes of this aircraft are at 100-120 knots ground speed at 500 feet above the ground. As the road that I stood on was a relative high point, I expect that distance from my vantage point could have been considerably less.
After all was done and said, the aircraft passed several more times after I packed up and my reflections are that I believe that I was hearing that turboprop pass multiple times before I even headed to the lake.
I didn't have a clue to the aircraft type, it's owner or it's possible activity was until I viewed the video files on my PC where I pulled a few frames with a clear "N45RF" and "Googled" that result. I've pasted my findings above and since the aircraft paint job seems to be new and this aircraft's primary mission wouldn't begin for a month or two (at minimum), I'll just assume that the make-over was more then cosmetic and the NOAA was out calibrating and training with personnel and new equipment. The City of Cologne is still quite rural, but it is a very short hop from Flying Cloud Airport and the Twin Cities (Chanhassen) NWS/NOAA Weather Station.
Take a peek at the above links regarding this aircraft and note the radical cosmetic change they did with the new paint job. One can only guess at the remodeling done inside.
