Travel video about destination South East Asia.
South East Asia is a fascinating, atmospheric and exotic world full of unspoiled nature and cultural treasures and a region in which both past and present live side by side and unite in a wonderful way. Myanmar, The Land Of Golden Pagodas: for decades the rulers of what was once known as Burma closed the country’s doors to the outside world and many of its fine religious sanctuaries were badly neglected but they have now gradually been given the respect that they deserve. Inlay Lake is home to the Inthas, one of the many tribes that came to Myanmar from various of South East Asia’s neighbouring countries. Throughout the area are the floating plantations of the Inthas on which tomatoes, cucumbers and beans are cultivated. A journey on the Shan State Express provides passengers with a fascinating insight into the life of the Shan people whose lives are dominated by agriculture. The north west of Myanmar is known for its many splendid sacred buildings such as Mingun’s Hsinbyume Pagoda that was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It was constructed according to the architectural rules of Hindu Buddhist cosmology and symbolizes the World Mountain of Meru.. One of Taiwan’s most important centres of arts and crafts is located in the west of the island, Lukang, an ancient and idyllic town full of age-old traditions whose large number of beautiful temples is most impressive. In Cambodia and around forty kilometres north of Phnom Penh is the former capital city of Udong. Today only the remains of the city’s former splendid buildings indicate that it was the last centre of Angkor’s power with hundreds of dwellings and temples. The ruins of Ayutthaya indicate the impressive dimensions of the former capital of ancient Thailand and one of the mightiest royal cities in South East Asia.

Bara Basti or Kohima village
Bara Basti, also known as Kohima village is considered to be the point of origin of Kohima.
Bara Basti, literally translates into ‘big settlement’ and is believed to be the second largest village in Asia, situated on a hilltop in the north-eastern part of Kohima. Known for its abundance of natural beauty, tradition, culture and handicrafts, the village is inhabited and dominated by the Angami tribe.

Bara Basti - Second largest village in Asia | The Best of India
Bara Basti or Kohima village
Bara Basti, also known as Kohima village is considered to be the point of origin of Kohima.
Bara Basti, literally translates into ‘big settlement’ and is believed to be the second largest village in Asia, situated on a hilltop in the north-eastern part of Kohima. Known for its abundance of natural beauty, tradition, culture and handicrafts, the village is inhabited and dominated by the Angami tribe.
Legend has it, that it was established by a man called Whinuo or Kewhira.
The village is divided into four ‘khels’ (L khel), (T khel), (P khel) and (D khel). A ‘khel’ is a distinct unit of the Naga. It’s an institution that brings several clans in the village together. An individual’s membership in the khel is decided by birth or by heredity. No village decision can be taken without consensus between all the Khels, thus making it an effective institution in village governance.
All villages have a ceremonial gateway, carved with images of human heads, animals, birds etc., The gateway also features the symbol of prosperity - the mithun. Houses in the village have upright crossed horns of the mithun. Nagas hang the heads of the hunted animals at the entrance of their houses as trophies that indicate the status of the owner.
In ancient times, head hunting was prevalent in Naga society. Naga heroism was born of their head hunting practices. In proportion to the number of heads hunted a warrior gained greater respect from the villagers. It is the number of heads that signified one’s level of bravery.
Over time, the traditional Naga huts have been replaced by modern brick houses.
The Nagas are known for their artefacts and handicrafts. They carve objects and handicrafts from teak, gaman khasu, and bonsu rai wood procured from the nearby forests.
These artefacts are associated with religious beliefs and practices, and mostly feature mithun, hornbills and human figures.
Handicrafts from the Bara Basti are exported overseas - they comprise mainly of wooden carvings and kophi or cane baskets. The women are master weavers and weave beautiful shawls and wraps.
Whether welcomed by a mithun head or not the Bara Basti people boast a proud tradition of bravery, community and heritage. Although some of it has disappeared over time, Kohima is still instilled with the proud spirit of the Nagas.

WILD LIFE WEEK 2015-Jessie Jeyakaran ZEN&CCN;, South Asia
Group of men blow large metal horns during the celebration of Dussehra in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.
The annual mela or festival takes place in the Kullu Valley - also known as the Valley of the Living Gods, in North India. The festival celebrates the triumph of the God Ram over evil. The Rath Yatra of the idol of Lord Ragunath is led by the Kullu Raja and village deities, and is known as the running of the Gods. The procession starts a week of religious ceremonies, cultural activities, socializing and shopping at the huge bazaar, or market, that comprises most of the mela ground.
Kullu is a district in Himachal Pradesh, India. The district stretches from the village of Rampur in the south to the Rohtang Pass in the North.
Dussehra at Kullu commences on the tenth day of the rising moon, i.e. on 'Vijay Dashmi' day itself and continues in seven days. The birth of Dussehra in Kullu lay in royal fads and it nourished on religious, social and economic factors and ultimately came to be well established, because of the inborn love of the hill-men for fun, frolic, displayed in community singing and dancing. Numerous stalls offer a verity of local wares. This is also the time when the International Folk Festival is celebrated.

Suicide Protest in South Asia by Simanti Lahiri Ebook PDF
Click http://books.phusplay.com/?id=UbNEAwAAQBAJ
Author: Simanti Lahiri
Publish: 2014-04-03
The radical act of suicide protest is undertaken by social movement participants in order to demand a particular previously articulated political outcome. This book examines the history and impact of suicide protest, which has been increasingly used as a protest tactic since World War II, adding to a growing area of research on the ability of certain actions to impact policy in favour of movement goals. The book offers a combination of historical and contemporary cases analysis from South Asia, where different iterations of this tactic have been used extensively throughout the latter half of the twentieth century, including the use of fasting to the death, self-immolation, and deliberate drowning. Focussing on the success or failure or a particular action relevant to the movement’s broader mobilization strategy, the author examines the internal impact this has on the movement and the mechanisms by which suicide as a form of protest evolves. Providing a unique contribution to the field of comparative politics, political violence and social movement studies this book will be of interest to scholars working on political science, sociology and South Asian studies.

The First Annual Future of War Conference brings together a diverse, interdisciplinary collection of experts to discuss the profound social, political, economic, and cultural implications of the changing nature of war and conflict. The theme of the event is “How is Warfare Changing?,” which we explore through a consideration of three sub-themes: “How Are Emerging Technologies and Strategies Redefining the Practice of War?;” “Are We Living in a Forever War?;” and “Can We Better Understand How Warfare is Evolving by Reflecting on History?” The conference also launches the Future of War Project, which links New America, a DC-based think tank and civic engagement enterprise, and Arizona State University, one of the nation’s largest and most innovative public research universities.
CNN is the leading media partner for the conference and will live-stream panels on CNN.com. DefenseOne will also be a media partner for this event.

As a global marketing organisation, Meat & Livestock Australia has six International Business Managers (IBMs) based in key export destinations - each charged with promoting the superior safety and quality systems of Aussie red meat in order to gain better market access and grow demand.
Each month, MLA will be dialling in via Skype to one of our IBMs for a quick catch up of their in-country experiences in promoting Australia as a trusted source of safe, traceable and high quality red meat.
In our latest video diary blog, we touch base with Andrew Simpson, IBM for Southern Asia – based in Singapore, who explains the varied work being carried out by MLA in this crucial and exciting region.

Darcha (elevation 3,360 m or 11,020 ft) is a village on the Bhaga River in Lahaul region in Lahaul and Spiti district in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is the northernmost permanent settlement in Himachal Pradesh along the Manali-Leh Highway. The Rough Guide to India describes it as "a lonely cluster of dry-stone huts and dingy tent camps".
The village has 65 households and a total population of 298, of which 152 are male and 146 are female. There are 2 residents belonging to scheduled castes and 222 belonging to scheduled tribes. schooling up to 10+2 is available in the village;there is a Primary Health Centre at Darcha. Drinking water is available, and the village has power and telephone connections.
Some buses between Manali and Leh stop for the night at Darcha where travelers sleep in tents. The village is the end-point of a popular trek beginning in Padum, Zanskar. Roadside stalls offer basic food.
All passing vehicles must stop at Darcha's police checkpoint for passport checks.
Bara-lacha la also known as Bara-lacha Pass, or Bārā Lācha La,(el. 4,890 m or 16,040 ft) is a high mountain pass in Zanskar range, connecting Lahaul district in Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, situated along the Leh–Manali Highway.
The Bhaga river, a tributary of the Chandrabhaga or Chenab river, originates from Surya taal lake, which is situated a few of kilometers from the pass towards Manali. The other major tributary of the Chandrabhaga, the Chandra also originates from glacier in this region. The pass also acts as a water-divide between the Bhaga river and the Yunam river.

This is the Maldives a country that is made up of over 1,100 coral islands that have formed around 26 natural ring-like atolls and is spread over 90,000 square kilometers. Most of this country comprises of ocean and this ocean attracts millions of people every year.
