The precise number of victims suffering from rape and related diseases, of which traumatic fistula is one, is impossible to know. A UN independent expert says that between 2005 and 2007, 14200 cases were reported in South Kivu province alone. Shunned by their community, the women are often reluctant to come forward for treatment. Instead they are forced to bear the physical and psychological scars of their ordeal alone. We travel to Bukavu to interview Dr Denis Mukwege, one of the few doctors in the country willing to treat fistula, to discover the truth behind one of the world's greatest unreported evils.

TheThree Amigos is a series of twenty Public Service Announcements (PSAs) in the form of short comedic sketches, featuring three animated, talking condoms. Some 80 volunteers in Canada, India and South Africa have created this ground-breaking behaviour modification programme to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. The producers advise that these PSA's should be used as one component only in a comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention programme. The PSA's will not be appropriate in all settings and in all cultures and careful evaluation of the appropriateness of each PSA should be made. Information and communications technologies (ICTs) have become an integral part of how we live, work and spend our leisure time. Ranging from telephone, radio and television to computers and internet, these tools enable the gathering, processing and dissemination of information and ideas faster than ever before in human history. How can these ICTs help reduce poverty, create more jobs, generate income and add value to people's livelihoods? And how can we prevent them from widening existing disparities in our societies? These and other questions were addressed in this high level TV debate that was recorded in Geneva, Switzerland, a few weeks ahead of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) held in Tunis, Tunisia, in November 2005. The debate was initially broadcast on BBC World TV on 22 October 2005, followed by regional and national broadcasters across the world. The Debate was staged by Dev.tv, a non-profit association of media professionals, in collaboration with the UNDP Asia Pacific Development Information Programme (UNDP-APDIP), Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP). This film is about the consumers 'searching for safe food, and farmers' struggles to produce food without using chemicals as well as the government's implementation of regulations moved by the civil voice.

Japan gained material wealth after rapid economic growth which lifted the people's living standards. Especially in cities, mass production and consumption led to generation of massive volumes of waste. Japan first handled its waste by burying it in the mountains or using it to reclaim lands offshore. However, this method soon reached its limitations. Industrial waste produced from factories and construction sites had nowhere to go except to less populated countryside and remote islands. These became waste mountains causing much pollution. By the time illegal dumping was exposed, so much waste had accumulated. Garbage pollution is difficult to tackle because it comes from numerous sources both domestic and industrial. Victims and victimizer are not visible to each other, which makes the situation more complex and hard to resolve. This film features Japanese citizens who questioned their waste legislation and voluntarily started recycling campaign. It recalls the challenges that Nagoya city faced when it withdrew a new reclamation plan, and looks at a typical illegal dumping site in Teshima island, Kagawa prefecture. Japan's waste problems are far from over. The film ends with the key question: How can production and consumption minimise waste generation in the future?

Many developing countries in Asia face challenges in providing clean drinking water and safe sanitation to all their people. Japan experienced similar situation when it rushed into economic development four decades ago. Untreated discharges from factories and homes polluted the rivers and lakes became so contaminated that even mosquito could not survive. The Minamata Disease and other illnesses caused by polluted water were major topics in the 1960s and 1970s, which raised awareness among the people and companies. Stricter regulation and penalties on industrial waste water discharges forced Japanese industry to treat and purify waste water. These also spurred development of water disposal technologies. Meanwhile, households started using soap instead of chemical detergents. This originated in the Biwa Lake area, Japan's largest lake, to prevent the lake from eutrophication. Both people and factories learned that controlling pollution at the sources is the best way of cleaning water. Freshwater fish slowly returned to the Tama river in the Tokyo Metropolitan area. But there are still problems like eutrophication of lakes, which shows how hard it is to restore aquatic ecosystems once polluted.

Episode 3 of our series on the work of Medecins sans Frontieres in hot spots of conflict. The capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa, is like an undeclared war zone. There is an average of 16 assassinations every day. Despite the presidential elections of 2002, the military are still very much in charge. The country is little changed from the "heyday" of Central America's banana republic days. There has been a growth in organised crime, fuelled by drug trafficking. As ever, it is the children who are the frontline victims of this failing state. Young teenagers are inducted into the gangs and girls into prostitution in order to survive. A year ago, MSF set up a medical and counselling centre for 400 children. While we were filming, one of the girls receiving counselling was murdered on the streets.

As one of the countries in the renowned "ring of fire", the Philippines is hit by regular typhoons, earthquakes and other natural disasters - resulting in severe damages to lives, livelihoods and infrastructure. The backdrop to this documentary is the devastating mudslide of February 17 2006 in Southern Leyte Province which resulted in the loss of over 1000 people in St Bernard town alone. Almost 6000 families were evacuated or relocated and more than 20 school buildings had to be abandoned as they were located in areas susceptible to repeat landslides. The landslide followed ten days of heavy rain and a minor earthquake measuring 2.6 on the Richter scale. Due to the vulnerable geographic nature of the Philippines, many schools are built in the hazard prone locations along the spring-line belt in landslide risk areas. The documentary tells the story of 16 year of Honey, and her school in Santa Paz, Southern Leyte -Thanks to a child-led lobbying and letter-writing campaign, the school has now been relocated to a safer area. Alvin and Archie, also share their personal experience of the Guinsaugon landslide and explain how they are now active in promoting a culture of prevention through theatre and school-based early warning and preparedness measures.
