Deep, broad valleys dissect the North York Moors National Park, with hidden winding roads that suddenly lead to surprise views. Wonderfully-named valleys such as Great Fryup Dale, Rosedale and Farndale weave in and out of the central park area. Farndale is famous for its spring displays of wild daffodils and you can also see them in Rosedale. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has launched an investigation into the footage from the Bowood Lamb abattoir in Thirsk, saying there was "no excuse for treating animals in the way shown on the video'' and adding that prosecutions could follow. Animal rights group Animal Aid used hidden cameras to record footage over a period of three days in December. The footage apparently shows, aming other things, sheep being kicked in the face and head, lifted by their ears, fleeces or legs, and hurled into solid structures.

At the eastern edge of the National Park the land meets the North Sea. For thousands of years rain, ice, wind and waves have carved and shaped this coastline into the scenery we see today. Here you will find sandy beaches, rocky shores, towering cliffs, steep wooded valleys or 'wykes', sheltered bays and fascinating villages. Along this coastline there are many seaside villages with higgledy piggledy cottages and narrow, winding streets clinging onto the cliffs. The villages developed because of the fishing industry. There are only a few fishermen left now but many local people make a living from hotels, cafés, shops and other services for the tourists who visit the coast. Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes are popular villages (or honey pot sites) for visitors. The Howardian Hills covers 204 sq km (79 sq miles) of North Yorkshire countryside, bordering the south-west corner of the North York Moors National Park. It is a unique and captivating landscape of well-wooded rolling countryside, a patchwork of arable and pasture fields, scenic villages and historic country houses with classic parkland landscapes. The jewel in the crown has to be Castle Howard, Yorkshire's finest historic estate, set on a thousand breathtaking acres. Find out more at www.northyorkmoors.org.uk/visiting

I stayed one night at the Novotel, Sheffield in March, 2015. It was a Saturday night, I booked a double room for two people with Booking.com for £79.00 (room only). The advertised breakfast price on Booking.com was £13.95, which we were not prepared to pay, however, upon check-in breakfast was offered at £9.95 - if booked before midnight. We decided to go with that option. If you are using Booking.com to book a room here, go for the room only option, and pay for breakfast upon arrival. The hotel is very well situated in Sheffield city centre, a 5-7 minute uphill walk from Sheffield railway station. You can enter from the Station side via the lower ground floor, or from the Winter Gardens side on the upper ground floor. If entering on the lower ground floor there are both stairs and a lift for getting upstairs. Note on the lower ground floor there is also a fitness suite and swimming pool - it is a very small pool, and the changing rooms are tiny, so it's probably better to get changed in your room. You need to get a keycard from reception to unlock the doors to the fitness area and swimming pool. Reception is large, colourful and bright, and the reception staff were all friendly and helpful. We were told upon check-in that an event was taking place and that there may be 'some noise' until midnight. They weren't wrong, it was boom boom boom until just after midnight. We didn't let it bother us, but I can imagine it would be an annoyance to many people. I asked for a room with a view on a high floor, however my view was of student flats next door, not a nice view at all, and I was really disappointed by this. I specifically requested a good view on Booking.com (hoping for a view over the valley), but I didn't bother complaining this time, as we were heading straight out after check-in. The room was the usual high standard that Novotel offer, no complaints really, other than the ironing board and iron taking up 50% of the wardrobe, and their being no small hand washing sink in the toilet room (I find this unhygienic). We did enjoy our stay here, and I would stay again, but I would insist on a room with a better view. BBC News 2015-04-01Yorkshire (/ˈjɔːkʃə/) is a historic county of Northern England and the largest in the United Kingdom. Due to its great size in comparison to other English counties, functions have been increasingly undertaken over time by its subdivisions, which have also been subject to periodic reform. Throughout these changes, Yorkshire has continued to be recognised as a geographical territory and cultural region. The name is familiar and well understood across the United Kingdom and is in common use in the media and the military, and also features in the titles of current areas of civil administration, such as North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire. The county's name is commonly abbreviated as Yorks.
Within the borders of the historic county of Yorkshire are areas which are widely considered to be among the greenest in England, due to the vast stretches of unspoiled countryside in the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors and to the open aspect of some of the major cities. Yorkshire has sometimes been nicknamed God's Own County. The emblem of Yorkshire is the white rose of the English royal House of York, and the most commonly used flag representative of Yorkshire is the White Rose on a dark blue background, which after years of use, was recognised by the Flag Institute on 29 July 2008.Yorkshire Day, held on 1 August, is a celebration of the general culture of Yorkshire, ranging from its history to its own dialect.
North Yorkshire is a county in England. It is a non-metropolitan or shire county located in the Yorkshire and the Humber region of England, and a ceremonial county primarily in that region but partly in North East England. Created in 1974 by the Local Government Act 1972 it covers an area of 8,654 square kilometres (3,341 sq mi), making it the largest ceremonial county in England. The majority of the Yorkshire Dales and all of the North York Moors lie within North Yorkshire's boundaries, and around 40% of the county is covered by National Parks. The county town is Northallerton.
The area under the control of the county council, or shire county, is divided into a number of local government districts; they are Craven, Hambleton, Harrogate, Richmondshire, Ryedale, Scarborough and Selby.
The Department for Communities and Local Government did consider reorganising North Yorkshire County Council's administrative structure by abolishing the seven district councils and the county council to create a North Yorkshire unitary authority. The changes were planned to be implemented no later than 1 April 2009. This was rejected on 25 July 2007 so the County Council and District Council structure will remain.
