The Shadow Electric Bandroom

As a prelude to the 3rd annual cinema program, The Shadow Electric is once again opening up it’s band room. Twelve unforgettable shows over 10 days and nights from 1 November - 10 November 2013. This years series features a raft of awesome acts from across Australia including: The Ape, Young bloods - Pluto Jonze, Little Scout and Palms, Courtney Barnett, Bored Nothing, The Spoils and Ben Salter. 
Hope Street Records are kicking in with their very own showcase featuring the incredible spectacle that is Bombay Royale.

Illustrators Australia 9x5 Exhibition

This is your chance to view the rarely seen original artworks of professional illustrators in one exciting exhibition. This year for the first time it will be held at the wonderful Abbotsford Convent. You can enjoy 80 illustrated original masterpieces on wood in a 9"x5" format. The 9x5 is based on an exhibition in 1890 where artists such as Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin and Arthur Streeton (of the Heidelberg School) painted their works of art on cigar box lids which had similar proportions to 9"x 5".

Open Day Volunteers Needed

This event only takes place once a year and is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and have fun on site while helping out a not-for-profit organisation. We’re looking for help with our visitor information, setting up and packing down, car park and invigilating. As added incentive to spending your day at a beautiful site with lots of activities you can take part in, we will feed you too! If you’re a smiley, welcoming person with a can-do attitude, we’d love to hear from you. Open Day is an opportunity to offer the public insights into what goes on within the historically rich walls: to see inside artist studios and meet the artists, explore the buildings, picnic in the gardens, enjoy live music and connect with its astonishing environment. Open Day at the Convent is a celebration of community, diversity, arts and culture. This year Open Day will be on Sunday 10 November, from 11am - 4pm.
