Cultural Programming
SPIRITOUS
Applications for 2013 have now closed. The next round will open in early 2014.
Spiritous is an arts funding program for work developed or presented at the Abbotsford Convent.
Spiritous has been established to support, enhance and deliver artistic activity across the site. Projects are encouraged to consider the site’s location and history within the City of Yarra and Melbourne; with reference to the Indigenous heritage, local culture, history, geographical position and the diversity of the local demographic.
The Abbotsford Convent will support 5 projects a year and welcomes proposals from all creative streams to activate the site’s conventional and unconventional spaces for exchange between creative practitioners and audiences.

Are you interested in holding a creative activity or event at the Abbotsford Convent?
Our mission in programming is to create an exemplary arts, cultural and learning precinct, a welcoming and lively place that encourages collaboration and social interaction at all levels.
The Convent is primarily a creative artistic precinct for its tenants and the wider community. The continued development of its artistic credentials is critical to the Convent’s long-term success.
To achieve this, the ACF needs to be selective about what is presented and staged on site.
The Abbotsford Convent Foundation now welcomes proposals within the specific areas of:
- Thinking and Ideas: talks, presentations, workshops, in conversation events
- Visual Arts / Installation: exhibitions, one off art installations
- Performing Arts: live art, short theatre seasons, opera, theatre, dance
- New Media / Film: short films, projection, animation
- Music: indoor, outdoor, contemporary, classical, experimental
- Community
- Youth / Families: kids and family friendly events

ACCR Odyssée Programme
Artists interested in spending time at the Abbotsford Convent through the ACCR Odyssey program are required to set up their project with a Centre that is based in France. Through the program, an artist would spend most of his/her residency time in a French centre and then possibly extend the project to the Abbotsford Convent if it aligns with the artistic direction of the Abbotsford Convent’s arts research and cultural exchange. Once your proposal has been accepted by a French CCR, please feel free to contact the Abbotsford Convent so your proposal can be considered.
