About the Abbotsford Convent Foundation

The Abbotsford Convent is an extraordinary place and is an important arts, learning and cultural precinct in Melbourne. Just 4 kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD, its 11 historic buildings, gardens and car park are spread over 6.8 hectares in a sweeping bend in the Yarra River and are surrounded by the Collingwood Children’s Farm and Yarra Bend Park.

It is an invaluable resource for the arts community, for training and education, employment, an incubator for creativity and the sharing of ideas, a place for community participation and enjoyment.

There are artist studios and creative spaces for writers and designers, spaces for arts organisations, spaces for rehearsal and development, indoor and outdoor function spaces, a school, a radio station,  a bakery, cafes, restaurants, bars and there’s more to come.

The Abbotsford Convent Foundation is evolving at a rate that has surpassed even the most optimistic predictions. The site is testament to the vision and faith that inspired the community campaign in the early days, and to the ongoing support that sees it go from strength to strength today. The Foundation is grateful to those who have contributed in the past, and appreciates those who continue their involvement. See below for a list of Abbotsford Convent supporters.
