President Barack Obama warned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad not to use chemical weapons against opposition forces, saying there would be consequences if he were to do so. "The world is watching," he said. "The use of chemical weapons is and would be totally unacceptable and if you make the tragic mistake of using these weapons there will be consequences and you will be held accountable," Mr Obama said in remarks to a gathering of nuclear proliferation experts. The President's warning came as US officials claimed to have detected signs that Syrian forces were mixing the chemicals needed to produce sarin gas, a nerve agent banned under international rules of war. Troops from the 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland and their guests have celebrated St Andrews Day in Afghanistan. More than 60 personnel were treated to a feast with traditional haggis, neeps and tatties. The toast to St Andrew, which is usually given with whiskey, instead used another Scottish drink, Irn Bru. Guests were also treated to several performances by the battalion's Pipes and Drums. The battalion are currently deployed as the Brigade Advisory Group, mentoring the Afghan National Security Forces. Meanwhile, not to be outdone, the 1st Battalion Scots Guards also celebrated their national day at Forward Operating Base Ouellette in Helmand. Amongst the games celebrating St Andrew was a wellie throw and a rowing competition simulating the distance to the Isle of Skye. The Scots Guards are busy supporting the Afghan National Security Forces in keeping Highway 611 open - a key route which connects the main towns of Sangin and Gereshk.

The whistleblower website WikiLeaks has gained the respect of truth seekers across the globe for exposing governmental secrets, but of course not without a few repercussions. Two years ago the site released sensitive information known as "Cablegate" which shed light on organizational corruption and some say this wouldn't have been possible without the alleged involvement of Private First Class Bradley Manning. Now, Manning is facing the harsh consequence of being a whistleblower and is just now getting his pre-trial hearings for his case. Friday, April 13, 2012 11:21 +0900 (JST) North Korea has launched what it called a satellite-carrying rocket but the projectile disintegrated soon after the launch. Japan's Defense Ministry says debris fell into the Yellow Sea, without affecting Japanese territory. The ministry says a US early warning satellite system confirmed the launch at about 7:40 AM, Japan Time. The projectile was launched from the western coast of North Korea toward the south and flew for more than one minute. A Defense Ministry official says the projectile reached an altitude of about 120 kilometers before it disintegrated into around 10 pieces. They are thought to have fallen into the Yellow Sea west of the Korean Peninsula. The official says none of the pieces reached Japanese territory. The National Police Agency and the Fire and Disaster Management Agency say there are no reports of damage. The Defense Ministry is closely analyzing the trajectory using data provided by the US military and obtained by Aegis destroyers from Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force. Two Aegis destroyers have been positioned in the East China Sea around Okinawa, and another in the Sea of Japan. Cedits: NHK World English W1TV 10 MINUTES www.w1tv.com.br

For downloads and more info visit: www.journeyman.tv This powerful exclusive is the first film to access the Free Syrian Army's secret labyrinth of caves and also holds a rare interview with the FSA leader. A fascinating insight to how the battle for Syria is being fought. "Please don't film!" one fighter says, as two rebels argue in the pitch black over the presence of a journalist. In this increasingly violent war the rebels have been using their local knowledge to great advantage. And these 3000 year old caves are of huge strategic importance. "The army besieged us many times and we always slipped through." But local knowledge will only go so far and the rebels are hard pressed to counter the might of the Syrian army with limited resources. As one failed test run of a home-made mortar shows, they don't have much to work with. They are disheartened by months of fighting without help. "America and Europe hide behind the Russian veto. They lie to us." Even the head of the Free Syrian Army, Colonel Riad al-Assad, is unable to help. As rebel groups come to him for guidance he can only encourage coordination. When asked about the suicide bomb that killed the minister of defence he says, "This is an integral part of the revolutionary action. It could break the regime's back." As things get increasingly desperate, anything that hastens the end of the bloodshed in Syria will form a part of their strategy. SBS
