Tibetan culture revives through technical assistance

Tibet University, top institute of higher learning in the Tibet Autonomous Region, has the region's best research strength with technical assistance across the country.

Over the past decades, a large number of teachers and cadres have been sent to Tibet University, contributing to Tibet's social, economic and cultural development.

Like many famous inland universities, Tibet University integrates its own scientific research advantage with the region's actual demand, obtaining fruitful achievements in various fields since it was established in 1951.

Tibet University has developed a set of advanced applied technology of Tibetan information processing with introduced technology from inland China.

"The technology takes the lead in domestic and overseas markets," said Chen Jianlong, vice president of Tibet University, "It has been popularized in 74 counties across Tibet."

The technology not only promotes the regional information construction but also enables locals to enjoy all kinds of benefits brought by the modern information technology, according to Chen Jianlong, who is also a model of cadres sent to aid Tibet.

Making use of all scientific advantages, Tibet University applies high technology into the protection of murals in Tibetan monasteries, the inheritance of Thangka art as well as the material collection of "King Gesar", the world's longest epic.

"The cultural protection is not as easy as we imagine, but a systemic project. For instance, the murals before reparation are preserved with three-dimensional and digital date", Chen Jianlong said.

Technology plays an important role in the protection and inheritance of traditional Tibetan culture.

"The aid-Tibet cadres guide a cultural project or cooperate with local scholars and artists to apply the advanced technology in Tibetan cultural protection and inheritance", Chen Jianlong said.

"I am proud of being a member and contributing my part in Tibetan cultural development", Chen added.

As the only comprehensive university in Tibet, the Tibet University is the direct beneficiary of the educational and technological aid-Tibet projects, forming its unique advantage and innovative mode among the top universities of China.
