County Meath
County Meath (/ˈmiːð/; Irish: Contae na Mí or simply an Mhí) is a county in Ireland. It is part of the Mid-East Region and is also located in the province of Leinster. It is named after the ancient Kingdom of Mide (meaning "middle"). Meath County Council is the local authority for the county. The population of the county is 184,034 according to the 2011 census.
The county is drained by the River Boyne.
Meath is the 14th largest of Ireland’s 26 counties in area and 9th largest in terms of population. It is the second largest of Leinster’s 12 counties in size and third largest in terms of population. The county town is Navan, where the county hall and government are located, although Trim, the former county town, has historical significance and remains a sitting place of the circuit court. County Meath also has the only two Gaeltacht areas in the province of Leinster, at Ráth Cairn and Baile Ghib.
There are eighteen historic baronies in the county. They include the baronies of Morgallion and Ratoath. While baronies continue to be officially defined units, they are no longer used for many administrative purposes. Their official status is illustrated by Placenames Orders made since 2003, where official Irish names of baronies are listed under "Administrative units".

Navan
Navan (

It is one of the few places in the world to have a palindromic name (see list of palindromic places). National legislation was enacted in 1971 which set the town's name as "Navan" in English. The population of the urban area of Navan was 3,166 in 2006. The population of the suburbs was 21,141 in the same year, giving a combined total of 24,851. The population of the town and its environs had increased by 28% since 2002. It has a population of 3,710 according to the 2006 census.
Navan is the county town or administrative capital of County Meath. Navan is also the name of a Local Electoral Area which includes the town and adjacent parts of the county. The total population of Navan Electoral Area was 38,891 in 2006.
Tara Mine, Europe's largest lead and zinc mine is located in Navan. The town traditionally was famous for carpets (Navan Carpets closed in 2003) and for a thriving furniture industry (Beechmount Home Park). Both are now in decline, or have ceased, as a result of the move away from manufacture to cheaper locations like Eastern Europe. Nevertheless, Navan has rapidly expanded with the Celtic Tiger to become a large dormitory town due to its proximity to Dublin.

Omagh (/ˈoʊmə/ or /ˈoʊmɑː/; Irish pronunciation: [ˈomæ][citation needed] – from Irish: an Ómaigh, meaning "the virgin plain" [ənˠ ˈoːmˠəi]) is the county town of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It is situated where the rivers Drumragh and Camowen meet to form the Strule. The town, which is the largest in the county, had a population of 19,910 at the 2001 Census. Omagh also contains the headquarters of Omagh District Council and the Western Education and Library Board. The town is twinned with East Kilbride (Scotland) and L'Haÿ-les-Roses (France).
The name Omagh is an anglicisation of the Irish name an Óghmaigh (modern Irish an Ómaigh), meaning "the virgin plain". A Franciscan friary was built on the site of the town in about 792 AD. Omagh was founded as a town in 1610. It served as a refuge for fugitives from the east of Tyrone during the 1641 Rebellion. In 1689, the same year as the Battle of the Boyne, James II arrived at Omagh, en route to Derry. Supporters of William III, Prince of Orange, burned the town.

The Omagh bombing was a car bomb attack carried out by the Real Irish Republican Army (RIRA), a splinter group of former Provisional Irish Republican Army members opposed to the Good Friday Agreement, on Saturday 15 August 1998, in Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Twenty-nine people died as a result of the attack and approximately 220 people were injured. The attack was described by the BBC as "Northern Ireland's worst single terrorist atrocity" and by the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, as an "appalling act of savagery and evil".Sinn Féin leaders Gerry Adams and Martin McGuinness condemned the attack and the RIRA itself.
The victims included people from many different backgrounds: Protestants,Catholics, a Mormon teenager, five other teenagers, six children, a woman pregnant with twins, two Spanish tourists, and other tourists on a day trip from the Republic of Ireland. The nature of the bombing created a strong international and local outcry against the RIRA, which later apologised, and spurred on the Northern Ireland peace process.

Gerard McSorley
Gerard McSorley (born 1950) is an Irish theatre, television and film actor.
He was born in Omagh, County Tyrone, and after attending a Christian Brothers school in his hometown he attended St. Columb's College in Derry. He then attended Queen's University, Belfast, where he was taught by Seamus Heaney. He currently resides in Gweedore, County Donegal. He is a descendant of John McSorley, who opened McSorley's Old Ale House, the oldest operating pub in New York.
He spent much of his early career working in theatre, notably at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin. After playing Michael Evans in the original West End and Broadway productions of Brian Friel's play Dancing at Lughnasa in the early 1990s, McSorley started to attract more TV and movie roles. He has appeared in many Hollywood movies including Braveheart (in which his character was decapitated) and In the Name of the Father. One of his most celebrated performances was his lead role in Omagh, a feature-length television drama depicting the effect of the Omagh bombing on the residents of the town. He is also known for playing "Father Todd Unctuous" in an episode of the Channel 4 sitcom Father Ted. His film credits include The Constant Gardener, and he was also cast as Queenan in The Departed but had to pull out (Martin Sheen took over the role). McSorley most recently played the role of Robert Aske in the Showtime historical drama The Tudors. He appeared in the 2010 movie Robin Hood, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe.

Julie Miller
Julie Miller (born Julie Griffin, July 12, 1956 in Waxahachie, Texas) is a songwriter, singer, and recording artist currently living in Nashville, Tennessee. She married Buddy Miller in 1981. They sing and play on each other's solo projects and have recorded a duets album on HighTone Records.
Miller's first professionally released recording was with the group Streetlight, which consisted of Julie, Buddy and Ron Krueger. The self-titled album was released in 1983 and Julie and Buddy provided some songwriting to the LP, which included the original version of "Jesus in Your Eyes" (later re-recorded for Orphans and Angels). "How Could You Say No" (written by Mickey Cates) was also originally performed on this album, and later included in Julie's solo debut Meet Julie Miller.
An eight-track 1985 demo from Miller listed 8 songs, but held 11. Of the songs on the tape, two songs were later included on Meet Julie Miller, but the remaining nine songs were not re-recorded. The songs on this tape are: "I Don't Need Anything Else", "Mystery Love" (Synth Pop Version), "Love Is", "I Look to You", "I Don't Need", "What Does it Take", "I Wanna Be Ready", "King of my Heart" (not the same as that which appeared later on her first Myrrh release), "My New Psychiatrist" (Synth Pop Version with different lyrics), "Debby Came Back", "Dangerous Place" (Synth Pop Version). Only one copy of this tape has seen circulation, it's unknown whether Julie used them to shop for a record label or sold them at concerts.

Juliet Turner
Juliet Turner is a singer/songwriter from Tummery, near Omagh, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. She has been a part of the Dublin music scene since she started recording in 1996. In the course of her career she has opened for such artists as Bob Dylan, U2 and Bryan Adams and toured with Roger McGuinn, Joan Armatrading and Brian Kennedy. Turner also sang on two tracks of Peter Mulvey's live album Glencree. Her first album "Lets Hear it for Pizza" was released in 1996 on the Scottish label "Sticky Music" followed by "Burn the Black Suit" released on her own "Hear This! Records" label. This album went double platinum in Ireland, and was voted one of the top 100 Irish albums of all time by HotPress Magazine readers. In 2004, Turner released "Season of the Hurricane" which went gold in Ireland, followed by a live album "Juliet Turner Live from the Spirit Store" in 2006. However, it is the 2008 release "People have Names" which is garnering critical acclaim, described by the Irish Times as "a gloriously taut collection of songs", by the Belfast Telegraph as "The album of her life", and HotPress as "a serious contender for album of the year"

Pete Travis
Pete Travis is an English television and film director. His work includes Cold Feet (1999), The Jury (2002) and Omagh (2004) for television, and Vantage Point (2008) and Endgame (2009) for cinema. In November 2010, Travis began filming Dredd, a new film adaptation of the Judge Dredd comics character.
Before becoming a director, Pete Travis was a social worker. After taking a post-graduate course in film-making he bought the film rights to Nick Hornby's Faith for £12,000. A producer invested the same amount in the film and Faith premiered at the London Film Festival on 11 November 1997. Comparing Faith to other unsuccessful football films, Travis told The Guardian, "I think the secret of making a good football film is not to have any football in it [...] Football is so much about the passion of its supporters, and you cannot portray that by showing 11 guys running around. Faith is more about the spirit of football than the sport.
Travis became interested in film-making late in life, inspired by Alan Clarke, Costa Gavras and Frank Capra. His second short, an adaptation of Anne Fine's Bill's New Frock (1998), won the ScreenScene Award for Best Short Film or Video at the 1998 Atlantic Film Festival.Faith lead to direction work on the ITV series The Bill, Cold Feet and The Jury.

On the Omagh Community Youth Choirs recent tour to the United States they took time out of their busy schedule to do an impromptu performance on the streets of New Orleans. The guitar case was set down and they did a short set for the people walking by. When the set was done the choir were getting ready to leave but one man came up to Musical Director Daryl Simpson and asked for another song for his girlfriend who was standing near by. It was soon clear what this man had in mind and the choir quickly got back into position and started singing a version of Fleetwood Macs 'Songbird'. He then proceeded to take his girlfriend in front of the choir and ask what will probably be the most scary question he will ever ask..

Omagh was a film dramatising the events surrounding the Omagh bombing and its aftermath, co-produced by Irish state broadcaster RTÉ and UK network Channel 4, and directed by Pete Travis. It was first shown on television in both countries in June, 2004.
Michael Gallagher, whose son Aidan (Paul Kelly) was killed in the bombing, is played by Gerard McSorley, originally from Omagh. Out of respect for the residents of Omagh, it was filmed on location in Navan, County Meath in the Republic of Ireland.
The film ends with the Julie Miller song Broken Things, which was performed by local singer Juliet Turner at the memorial for the victims of the Omagh bombing.

Rotten Tomatoes reported that 88% of critics gave the film positive reviews, with an average score of 7.2/10, however this is based upon a sample of only 8 reviews. Critics particularly noted the gritty realism and powerful acting in the film. In his review, Scott Foundas of 'Variety magazine' said that it "serves as a companion piece to writer-producer Paul Greengrass' superb 2001 pic "Bloody Sunday," but emerges as a startlingly powerful achievement in its own right".

The film won a number of awards. Most notably it won the 2005 BAFTA TV Award for 'Best Single Drama'. It also won a 'Discovery Award' at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival. At the Irish Film and Television Awards, the film won the awards for 'Best Irish Film' and 'Best Actor (Gerard McSorley)', and was nominated for a further five awards, including 'Best Film Director', 'Best Script' and 'Best Actress' for Michele Forbes.
