Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (, IAST: ''''), often abbreviated as BAPS (formerly ''Bochasan Swaminarayan Sanstha'' or ''BSS''), is a major organization within the Swaminarayan sect of Hinduism. The organization was established on 5 June 1907 by Shastri Yagnapurushdas or Shastriji Maharaj (1865–1951), a Sanskrit scholar and sadhu who left the Vadtal Gadi of the Swaminarayan Sampraday in 1905. The Akshar Purushottam Upasana, an interpretation of Bhagwan Swaminarayan's succession, is what led to the formation of this present organization. Shastriji Maharaj's successor was Yogiji Maharaj. Presently the sanstha is headed by Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha is a charitable Non-governmental organization affiliated with the United Nations. The organization is recognized as a Non-Governmental Organization that holds General Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.
The difference in interpretation of the beliefs witheld within the Sampraday led to the creation of group. The first traditional temple with the centerpiece murtis (shrines) of both Akshar and Purushottam was built in Bochasan in 1907, marking the beginning of BSS, later renamed to BAPS. Shastriji Maharaj then went on to build temples in Sarangpur (1916), Atladra (1945), Gondal (1934), and Gadhada (1951 with successor Yogiji Maharaj).
Neasden Temple BAPS constructed what was at the time the world's largest traditional Hindu temple outside India. BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London (http://www.mandir.org), also popularly known as the Neasden Temple) was opened in 1995. Constructed entirely from Marble and Limestone, the temple is popular amongst tourists seeking a unique place to visit in London. On 8 July 2000, the Managing Editor of Guinness Book of Records, Tim Footman and Andrew W. Dowsey presented His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj with certificates marking his entries into the world famous record book. The first certificate presented to His Holiness was for building and inspiring the largest traditional Hindu Mandir outside India. The second certificate marked a record 355 Temple Consecration Ceremonies performed by His Holiness between April 1971 and May 2000.
However, for modern and practical purposes, the title can be rendered in English as ''The Bochasan-ite Akshar-Purushottam Swaminarayan Establishment'' or ''The Akshar-Purushottam Swaminarayan Organization of Bochasan''. The high Sanskrit formations of ''Akshar Purushottam Svāminārāyan'', meaning ''Imperishable Supreme Being, Lord from the first of Men'', understandably adorning references to God, can be left untranslated due to a cumulation of two reasons, the first that ''Akshar Purushottam Swāminārāyan'' is hardly taken in a literal manner, it is more so Indian terminology for ''God, God''; the second that not even ''God, God'' is accurate, as ''Akshar Purushottam Svāminārāyan'' is much more contextually loaded than that, in terms of the history and the philosophy of BAPS and that which lead to it.

Shastri Nārāyanswarupdās (December 7, 1921), commonly known as Pramukh Swāmi Maharaj, is a Hindu sadhu, Indian social worker, and spiritual Guru of an international Hindu organization known as the BAPS Swāminārāyan Sansthā (Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha). His life work primarily revolves around teaching principles of bhakti yoga, self-realization, and service to society as taught by Bhagwan Swaminarayan.
Pramukh Swami Maharaj is the fifth spiritual successor of the Bochanwasi Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS). Devotees of this sect believe that Pramukh Swami is a self-realized yogi and a manifestation of the Hindu concept of Brahman. Pramukh Swami is the Spiritual Leader of Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Sanstha.
Prior to his passing, Yogiji Maharaj gave leadership to Pramukh Swami Maharaj in 1971. Over the last 40 years, under his able leadership and guidance, the BAPS faith has spread throughout India and internationally. What was, 85 years ago, a relatively small institution with only several thousand devotees and a handful of sadhus, is now a dynamic worldwide organisation with over 720 temples, over 5600 Satsang centres, more than 850 sadhus and a million followers spread over five continents.
Inspired by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the Sanstha has enjoyed success in international festivals celebrated in 1981 (Bicentenary Celebrations of Lord Swaminarayan), 1985 (Bicentenary Celebrations of Gunatitanand Swami) and 1992 (Centenary Celebrations of Yogiji Maharaj), as well as the spectacular ‘Cultural Festivals of India’ held in London, 1985 and in New Jersey, 1991.
Pramukh Swami Maharaj has embarked on no less than 15 preaching tours, covering 50 countries in 5 continents over the last 38 years. Temples and Satsang Centres have been established in USA, Canada, Europe (UK, France, Portugal, Holland, Belgium, Ireland), Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Mauritius), South Africa, The Middle East (Bahrain, UAE), The Far East (Japan, Fiji, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong), Australia and New Zealand.
Pramukh Swami Maharaj has been recognised by the United Nations for his efforts in religious harmony, and his message of peace and goodwill, having been asked to deliver a message to all at the World Peace Summit of 2000.
He has contributed to projects in social (famine relief, cattle camps, earthquake relief work), educational (literacy campaigns, youth hostels), ecological (tree planting, well recharging, recycling projects), medical (diagnostic camps, blood donation), moral (anti-addiction drives), cultural (child and youth development), and spiritual areas.
The first three records appeared in the 2000 and 2002 editions of the Guinness World Records whilst the others will appear in the 2009 edition.

Premanand Swami (Devnagari: प्रेमान्द स्वामी) (1784-1855) was a saint of the Swaminarayan Sampraday and one of Swaminarayan's paramhansas.
Dosatai wanted Hathiram to learn music. For this reason Dosatai sent Hathiram to Vadodara. His liaison with the Swaminarayan began when Swaminarayan arranged a musical concert, which Dosatai and Hathiram both attended. Attracted to Swaminarayan; thereafter Hathiram stayed with him. When given diksha, he was named Nijbodhanand Swami. His name was later changed to Premanand, due to his extreme love he showed, Swaminarayan praised Premanand Swami as an idol of love.
