Simple, yet important actions in a member's healthcare journey, like searching for care, can be quite cumbersome. To cut down on common friction points and deliver a more seamless experience, our tech team deployed an omni-search bar that is able to distinguish between reasons for visit, providers, facilities, and drugs. By leveraging LLMs, the search bar can serve members relevant content based on their inputs, without overwhelming them with results. The outcome? Executive Vice President Chief Insurance Officer Alessa Quane reflects on the mentors that have helped her get to where she is today: "On #iwd2024 I think back on my career, about the several allies that helped mature me into the leader I have become. They saw more in me than I saw in myself and pushed me to try new challenges. In addition, one female colleague who supported me during my transition into the C suite went out of her way to create a space for me at the table. She said a few things that really stuck with me. She emphasized that I had made it and needed to bring other women along with me and she reminded me that other women would look up to me and think, “I can be her,” because I had “grown up” within the organization. The support and advice of my sponsors and allies has stayed with me throughout my career, and has motivated me to be an advocate for other women. Mentoring and supporting other women is a big part of what I do and I get great energy seeing them be as successful as I know they can. #investinginwomen." #IWD2024

Early on in my career, I learned the importance of mentorship and the value of giving people your time. Over time, these concepts have become anchors in my career. I was fortunate to have incredible mentors who helped guide and prepare me for the future leadership roles I would hold, and now feel passionate about mentoring the upcoming generation of female leaders. One thing I always want to impart on those I mentor is that humility and compassion don’t make you a weak leader or employee. There’s a Dr. Maya Angelou quote I always think of when discussing the impacts of mentorship: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Giving people your time is a valuable gift that they won’t forget and I believe it’s important to impart lessons and share failures and learnings with the next generation. When I think back to those who inspired and supported me as I was advancing in my career, it’s those who led with compassion and vulnerability who impacted me the most. Now, I look to do the same for our future female leaders. #IWD2024
