Today is Postpartum Psychosis Awareness Day
Postpartum psychosis occurs after childbirth in approximately 1-2 of 1000 births, although occasionally psychosis can begin during pregnancy or after pregnancy loss.

Postpartum psychosis occurs in approximately 1-2 out of every 1,000 deliveries, with symptoms occurring as early as the first 48 to 72 hours postpartum. However, most episodes develop within the first 2 weeks.

Symptoms of PP often begin w/in the first 2 weeks after birth and may include delusions, hallucinations, delirium,& paranoia. At times the person loses touch with reality. Psychosis is a medical emergency that requires immediate care & thorough treatment.
