Tribalism is not the primary cause of democratic dysfunction in the U.S. The extraordinary level of economic power -- and political organization -- that reactionary elites have amassed is.

Fentanyl is killing so many longtime drug users, especially older African-Americans in cities like Baltimore, that many are now pining for less-deadly heroin, which is increasingly hard to find. A harrowing, dystopian piece by the great :

I’m not a Pete guy but props for this — like Bernie, he’s doing Fox properly. Fox viewers will never be shown this snippet again but it’s good he gave it anyway

I think some of my friends in the education reform space underrate the practical and moral force of the argument that the strength or weakness of the labor movement will be the decisive factor in whether or not the country goes fascist and that matters more than school quality.

Not most glam way of approaching the primary (& not something that'd be directly answered), but something I think about: If working with a GOP Congress, what are 'lines in sand' that each Dem would never agree to as part of a 'grand bargain'? Many items here came up in 90s/2010s.

This guy voted for Trump, then the Administration deported his wife. He might vote for Trump again because of abortion.

(I can understand where the Times reporter was coming from -- from a horserace perspective, whether Bernie supported Central Americans who evinced insufficient gratitude for US war crimes probably does matter more than those war crimes, themselves. America ❤️ its war criminals)

The Times's compulsion to hold Bernie accountable for supporting Nicaraguans who chanted anti-U.S things -- while the U.S was funding war crimes to overthrow their elected government -- and Trump's impending pardon of Gallagher are symptoms of the same national sickness, imo

Reading tweets about this interview all day it’s really quite the Rorschach test. (I grew up boycotting El Salvador and with parents deeply suspicious of a video game called “Contra” so you know how I see it)

Interesting angle RE Amash; his patrons have been the DeVos family. They supported his first run, & stuck w him in 2014 when theChamber & most big GR Repub donors backed his primary opponent. Suspect they’ll take this as betrayal (esp since Erik Prince is in murky legal waters).

“One day, from his sniper nest, Chief Gallagher shot a girl in a flower-print hijab who was walking w/ other girls on the riverbank. She dropped, clutching her stomach, & the other girls dragged her away.” Trump is preparing to pardon this war criminal.

I don’t know a single person who thinks it’s ok that in a country with so much money and food we charge children for lunch at school and if they don’t have the money penalize and leave them hungry. A shameful relic of bad government bureaucracy and backwards priorities.

Here are my principal conclusions: 1. Attorney General Barr has deliberately misrepresented Mueller’s report. 2. President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct. 3. Partisanship has eroded our system of checks and balances. 4. Few members of Congress have read the report.
