Dr. Seuss’s ABC App

Dr. Seuss’s most iconic characters are going from books to (augmented) reality in a new app for children.

“ABC An Amazing AR Alphabet ” is a new app available on smartphones launching in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. The app is designed to teach young children the alphabet, associating letters with different characters from the books. The characters transport users into Dr. Seuss’s wacky world, encouraging interactivity with “story mode” or “sandbox” mode. Story mode guides children through the alphabet with various characters paired with audio chapter narrations; sandbox mode lets the kids choose the characters they want to see while they build their own narration.

Dr. Seuss’s app introduces children into the creative world of augmented reality, particularly as it is being used for educational purposes. Parents can purchase the app from Apple’s App Store and Google Play for $3.99 to use on any smart screens—making the tool widely available on these platforms will help with consumer engagement, as the App Store, in particular, is where people go to find the latest apps to adopt, according to a Gartner report. When kids play with the app, the characters will appear in whatever space they are using it in, making familiar faces from Seussville appear right in front of them. By using augmented reality to bring childhood imagination to life, the initiative reflects just how prevalent digital technology is becoming for everyday consumers of all ages. While many brands have been adopting AR experiences primarily for promotional content, Dr. Seuss’s app was designed specifically with children’s learning in mind.

Dr. Seuss is showing the fun, educational side to augmented reality and may inspire other brands to provide unique learning experience for consumers using the technology.
