    Agree with this. You don't need this manifesto to mock/criticize Owens. Her Hitler comments are enough for that.

    I am obviously not a Candace Owens fan but it seems pretty clear to me that the shooter named her to cause her trouble, not because she actually inspired him. The implication in the text is that despite her right wing views she’s not welcome in the ethnostate he wants to see.

    Following up on Andrew’s comment: We write many articles about a politician & officials saying bigoted and racist things, some face consequences, some don’t. But one thing we’ve observed is if it’s solely Islamophobic and no other bigotry, the reactions are MUCH more muted.

    An observable fact from covering anti-Muslim comments from a wide-range of candidates and government and public figures: We don't take bigotry against Muslims and Islamophobia as seriously as we should. Often times, even following reports, bigoted comments go unchecked.

    This outrageous comment from a Republican congressman won’t get 1% of the coverage or outrage that Ilhan Omar got which is another reminder that the OTT coverage of her tweets/comments was less to do with alleged anti-Semitism and much more to do with *actual* Islamophobia.
