Here's a quick round-up of a few things that we learned from the 2015 edition;
- That with 27 tries and 221 points scored in the final round, the northern hemisphere teams showed New Zealand coach Steve Hansen that they can produce exciting rugby (Hansen had expressed his concerns over the focus on defence and lack of tries being scored having spent time in Europe during this Championship).
- That introducing bonus point scoring system might lead to more games like those on Saturday
- Or conversely, that if the teams can produce try-fests like Saturday then perhaps we don't need bonus points at all?
- That Ireland's ability to win without scoring many tries is efficiently fascinating but that their defence across the Championship has been the stand-out factor. Joe Schmidt's side conceded just 56 points across 5 games with the next closest team being Wales on 93.
- If the home nations can play in the World Cup as they did on Super Saturday we may well see a Northern Hemisphere team lift the Webb Ellis trophy for only the second time in history.
- That we're undecided if Conor Murray and Jonathan Sexton or Ben Youngs and George Ford were the half-back pairing of the Championship.
- That referee Nigel Owens must be odds-on to referee the World Cup Final later this year.
- That chasing points is really difficult. Coming in to Super Saturday everyone put England in the driving seat because as the last of the title chasers to play they would know what they had to do but being last is not always best - chasing points in that scenario is really hard to do.
- That live data is essential. The destination of Championship switched several times on Saturday and live data provides an opportunity to keep supporters up to date with the current situation. The TV and the website did this well by showing live league tables and potential permutations for "your side" to win.
- That "second screen" coverage really adds to the experience for fans.
- That the passion within the game is undeniable. The Irish fans may have watched on aghast as France attempted to run the ball out of their 22 in the dying seconds of the game against England but it says a lot for the passion of the French who still wanted to score.
- That momentum in sport is incredible. Wales' second half performance was probably the performance of the tournament and moved them from big outsiders to favourites at 2pm, before the Ireland game.
- That we are really looking forward to the 2015 World Cup ... just 6 months to go
