2 silvers and hopefully more medals to come!

The regatta is reaching its final stages and I’m pleased to say that we have bagged two medals in the Paralympic classes.

Skud World Champions Alex Rickham and Niki Birrell have had a solid week, slightly bitter sweet that they couldn’t continue their gold streak but fantastic that we have made the podium. It was also a similar result for Sonar sailors, John Robertson, Hannah Stodel and Steve Thomas in the three person Paralympic class who have also finished second overall.

A disappointing day for Lucy, Annie and Kate in the Match Racing after sailing through  the first round (excuse the pun!) the girls went head to head with Team Anna Tunnicliffe in the quarter finals. From being 2-0 down she levelled the score to 2-2 and then lost the third and deciding race by just a boat length after a really tight match. No medal for the trio after such a promising start however, so they will be racing tomorrow to decide their final position.

Credit this week has to go to Giles Scott, he has proven himself a strong force in the Finn fleet, and I’m really pleased to see him doing so well in what is a hugely competitive class. Ben Ainslie winning the trials in this class is by no means a sure thing and Giles and Ed Wright are hugely talented, and on the ascendance. It really is anyone’s guess who will qualify for 2012 at this stage.

Tomorrow will see the medals being decided for all of our Olympic classes and also the result of the ISAF Sailing World Cup. We’re currently leading the 7 event series with tomorrow’s results deciding the winner. The French team are in close contention and this week has been very strong, but hopefully we’ll be able to pull through with the top spot.

We’re currently waiting for the Star results and to see how Bryony Shaw goes on this afternoon, she’s only just left the slipway so it might be a long afternoon for the windsurfers.

Right I'm off to greet the hospitality boats so I can nab a piece of cake!
