Super cool Brazil World Championships

Written by Izzy Hamilton  | 21 March 2013

After a month of training in Brazil in the cross on trade winds and rolling waves, as the event approached typically the wind changed to light offshore wind. We had a five day regatta. In the end half of the races we raced off the plane and half on the plane.

This was the most varied Worlds I have ever raced and showed the best all round performers. I finished 15th – a result I am super happy with as this qualifies me for the Olympic Performance Team.   At the Cadiz Worlds 2012 I was 17th so it was also an improvement on this!

After all the time I spent learning to kite I was happy that I hadn't lost out too much!  I even had a fourth and several other top 10 results during the week which shows that in my best conditions I can do well, just need to spend some more time and gain more experience in my weakest conditions.

It was super cool result for the British Team with Nick winning his Worlds and Bryony finishing second in the women’s. It is awesome to be able to train with such an awesome team.

I loved spending time in Buzios – such an awesome location especially being able to surf on one side of the peninsula and sail on the other. Trade winds, rolling waves. Definitely I will take any chance to go back there!  The people where all so friendly and such amazing weather. Fruit in the UK now is so tasteless!
